Sorry US hockey fans, but I've attempted to listen to your commentating. It's second rate at best, even these guys. The CBC call of this goal is far superior.
Even though it was a good shot, i think the reason he scored was cause of the man who ran passed kipper before the shot, at :47 you see the goal and then you see kipper look at his teammate who skated right past him and blocked his view... and he kind nods, showing he was like talking to him...
CBC call was better. I feel bad for you Americans. Arguing about who's better, Thorne, Clement, Emrick... unfortunately, they're all second rate to CBCs announcers, or TSNs, or Sportsnet. If you can get those channels, I highly recommend you watch them, much much better. I can't stomach watching games on VS or NBC. Great goal, Tampa deserved to win.
@andyreidsweight well bob cole is for one a canada native so you can tell he was rooting a little big inside for calgary and he's over 70 he's getting pretty old, he's a legend though
@andyreidsweight Oh and also, Cole had the buildup while describing Lecaveliers spectacular puckhandling out of the corner and then setting up Fedotenko. This call however? Nothing. Talk about no emotion. Nothing until the puck goes in. Flat and rehearsed? If you're talking about this feed, then I agree. But CBCs call was brilliant.
Its been 6 years and I still get goosebumps every time I watch this. Lecavalier absolutely embarrassed Steve Montador. This is without a doubt the single most important play in Lightning history aside from St. Louis' Game 6 winner just a few nights before. How appropriate that both moments came by the two greatest to ever wear the black and white. Long live our captain Vincent Lecavalier. Long live our heart and soul Martin St. Louis.
Yes, no one does hockey like Thorne. The NHLPA held out just long enough to lose their contract with ESPN. They also ended up with a salary cap. So those sad, sad players did nothing for the sport except put it years behind of where it could 've been here in the US. Thank God for the Olympic showdown between Cananda and the US. It sounded like some non-hockey fans might start to tune in thanks to that!
First of all I'm from Tampa (Go Bucs), and I lived there during that season. Second of all, I'm a SHARKS fan, so there's no fucking way that I'm a Flames fan, and we sell out EVERY GAME. We aren't band wagon fans like the Lightning fans. Third of all, just because a bunch of people were standing outside the arena doesn't mean that the game sold out.
@psx2514 it was sold out dude...i was there and i had friends working at the place of the time that confirmed it to me that it was 100% sold out so whoever told you that is dead wrong
Speak for your own team dude. Calgary has consistently made the playoffs EVERY single year after this final. Yes, that includes 2006, 2007, 2008 and looks to be 2009 too.
I'd rather be them than Edmonton right now - Edmonton hasn't made the playoffs since they went to Game 7 in 2006. Calgary at the very least gets to the playoffs - the last three years they've played Anaheim, Detroit and SJ in the first round, two of which have won Cups this decade. All very tough draws.
Man, you guys are forgetting that CALGARY has made the playoffs every single year since the 2004 run. There are only 5 teams right now that have made the playoffs consistently since 2004 (pre-lockout). Calgary is one of them so there is no Curse for the team that wins the cup or loses in the final. Calgary has proven that. Get over yourselves. :P
And they may very well challenge for it all THIS year. Jokinen and Leopold give them even more firepower than they had before the deadline (and they had a lot already). If they get everyone back healthy before the playoffs they will be lethal out West.
he used to play in my home towns junior a hockey team and he was a beast

This is one Gary Thorne call I'm not impressed with. Bob Cole's was FAR better.
I mean Thorne didn't even sound phased at all by what Lecavalier did in the corner there. Like there was no excitement until the goal.

Good call by Thorne, only problem is this is how he called a go ahead goal in the 2nd period of a game from the first week of the season.
