I don't recall Joe ever playing this on the Gigliotti ...... do you have a link? And, by the way, that's not a Strat, it's a custom bartione by Stonetree Guitars. Please read my description for more information. He doesn't play it on that particular guitar anymore either. I believe he's been playing it on a few different Music Man guitars. :)
I was there for this performance. This video obviously does not do it justice. I saw him live again last week and he blows my mind every time. Nice splicing of the video though, that was very well done
Thank you so much for this up,as I simply adore Joe Bonamassa,I have`nt seen him live-as yet,,,can`t wait though, and nicky Horne here in the UK on my beloved Planet Rock Raio station is giving this so much airplay at the moment on the lead up to the album release shortly of the same name, and I just can`t get enough of this track and for you to put it up the first time he played it live -Awesome!
You'd do better to thank the poster rather than bitch about the sound you ungrateful smart ass.
Since you clearly know shit, I'll tell you that this song was first performed live by Joe as Spike Driver Blues, and that this was the very first recording of it put up on youtube by a REAL fan! In that context, the fact that the sound may be less than perfect is irrelevant. The fact that it's now had nearly 10k hits and has still got a five star rating says enough.
feb 24th track list Ballad Of John Henry Stop Last Kiss Jockey Full Of Bourbon Story Of A Quarryman Lonesome Road Blues Happier Times Feelin' Good Funkier Than A Mosquito's Tweeter Great Flood From The Valley As The Crow Flies
heard this live for the first time on Wednesday in Osnabrueck, hope it's on the next album, along with the new version of sloe gin that he played.unbelievable
This will be on the new album. I believe this is actually "The Ballad of John Henry" though is it not?! And the *new* version of Sloe Gin won't be on the new album, 'cos 'tis already on the Sloe Gin album and a live vers is on Live From Nowhere In Particular if interested.
i don't get why Joe doesn't just write the words and then he can actually call it an original. cause this is maybe 5% the same as the original, even some of the lyrics are different.
I really hope this song is going to be part of Joe's new album! This song is great, and I really wish that joe's next CD will be more blues than rock... a sort of Blues Deluxe 2!
When Joe plays the blues he is without any doubts the best in the world!
Half heartly agree. Think he is the best pure blues guy and blues rock guy in the world. Either way his next album will be awesome. They all are. I just want to know what happened to the world blues album????
Actually, that is NOT a Strat that Joe is playing. It is a Stonetree Baritone Guitar. I have a LOT more information about the song AND the guitar (including the website) just to the right.....just click on the "more info" at the top of the right column (just below the yellow "subscribe" button. :) It's still.....VERY COOL..... isn't it?? Thank you.
Gee, just about the time I'm finally through impatiently waiting for the release of his new live CD "Live From Nowhere In Particular", now I have to start impatiently waiting for his new studio CD too! =P
What can I say Libby...You did it girl...Now we can rely on you for all future premiere videos...No pressure intended...What a fricken great song...Joe does it again...Bizzer
Great Capture Libby , Joe & The Boys Pull Another Classic From By Gone Years , Rough it up and Deliver Mesmerising Blues/Rock For The 21st Century ........ Brilliant Sound and Great to See a Non Gibson Song Rock JB Style
I was at a show lastnight and he played this...I was front row...It was AMAZING!!! And LOUD! He stood not 6 inches from me when he played the solo. Best concert I've ever been to.
i hope this song will be on his next album. on his website he gives an interview with sirius radio and he says the tentative title of his upcoming album is "the battle of john henry" so that would make sense. bad ass song!
hey guys, thanks so much for your support. Please go to the Official Joe Bonamassa YouTube Channel and subscribe!

i dont like the strat for this song. the gigliotti works better. when it comes to this one, the strat sounds... well... ... mortal.

his les paul isnt a baritone which i guess he felt this song needed a low tuning... LPs arent great for that being shorter scale than usual

Isnt this guitar a baritone guitar and not a normal stratocaster?

I believe you are correct sir.

That's his custom StoneTree Guitar, built by Scott Platts out in Wyoming. If you want a custom guitar, check him out.
He's building a prototype for me right now!

the slide solo after the antenna effect is mind blowing and the best part of the song.

the antenna thing is called a thermin, it adds a really cool effect to the song

Theremin. Named after the developer.
