the way rivers writes his songs is so unique, lyrics wise. if you listen to the blue album too, not just pinkerton, the lyrics are so deep and depressing but are backed by the irony of the upbeat happy songs they play along with. you gotta listen he says some serious shit

maladroit really is one of weezers most underrated albums along with pinkerton, i love maladroit but is in no comparison to pinkerton. the timing for pinkerton was shitty cos it came right after the blue album, which is also a masterpiece, but was really poppy and catchy so when pinkerton came out people were sort of taken back and looked past it but even today it remains as one of my all time favorite albums.

People say in new weezers defense that bands need to grow and experiment, but they did that on maladroit, it sounded more jam based, more psychedelic, but still weezer, and it rocked. The point is whether they are experimenting or growing on their new albums or not, the songs still suck.
