I live 200 feet away from the levee in Jefferson Parish. The pumps did not cause the flooding, a levee access road that was sandbagged was breached and caused flooding. Within 3 weeks after the storm, political operatives from the other party were scheming to remove him from office and asking my support. It was disgraceful to make a scapegoat of this man. Anyone who criticizes without being here or knowing what went on is a coward and misguided opportunist. He is a hero for his dedication.
Does anyone yet have an answer to why FEMA cut the emergency communication lines? Anyone want to speculate on a legitimate reason for an action like that. I have, I got nothing. Illegitimate reasons, I can think of a good one.
I remember watching this on TV. I still feel this is the most deplorable incident on TV I have ever seen in my life. You are watching a man breaking down right before your eyes in this 5:11 second of a video. I truly felt sorry for this man and what he was going through.
Katrina was absolutely an INSIDE JOB. Just like 9/11 and now the financial collapse is an Inside Job. Ben Livingston "father of weather weapons" has blown the whistle on using weather as a weapon. This was a Dept. of Energy operation.
Born and raised in New Orleans, Louisiana, I can honestly say that almost all of us feel the exact same way. "We have been abandoned by our own country. Shut up and send us somebody."
Six days I lived in New Orleans after Katrina. No where to go. No one we can get help from. No food. No water. No electricity or contact to the outside world. You waited until the National Guard came to your house and told you where to go. Everything was completly bungled.
Aaron tells Russert that FEMA was cutting down the communications lines in his parish (Jefferson Parish), and Russert moves on to the next question! This is proof that Bush & FEMA orchestrated the mass chaos in New Orleans resulting in the deaths of thousands! It is also proof of how the media covers up government crimes like 9/11 and Oklahoma.
What you people forget is that a LOT of people's MOTHERS died. Who cares WHO'S mother it was...a LOT of people died. You're all pathetic! Should we replay the entire two weeks (the critical time) of non-stop news for you again? How quickly people forget!!! Welcome to America! Ignorant!
the stations made it i live right down the street from one the flooding would have never happened if Broussard would have told the operators to turn the pumps on right before they left

It was his fault that East Jefferson Parish flooded when he made the pump operators leave so the pumps were not operating , the people of jefferson parish talk about oh we cant wait until election day to vote him out of office and yet in 2007 what do they do they vote him back in how stupid can they be
I am confused. He says he closed a breach on his side of the 17th st canal. Huh? There was no breach on the Jeff side. Why lie ? To divert attention from his foolish mistake of sheltering workers 2hrs away instead of 2 blocks away at East Jeff with several hundred nurses and doctors. Republicans can never be gracious and admit they screwed up and bow out with dignity - "I am not a crook" is just one example. Arrogance....that's his crime.
Where did you get your information that there wasn't? I've seen video interviews with some of the guys who helped fix it. Search around online... Local news. You don't seem to know the whole story. Yes, he was misinformed about his associates mother's death.
You can bash Broussard as much as you like, this appearance will still be one of the straws that broke the back of the Bush administration. He may have been ill informed with this story but he certainly believed it at the time. He saw his community break down while the president was eating birthday cakes. So, his anguish was real, and the anguish of all the people in the desaster area was real, too. They were abandoned, and you can't change that by smearing Aaron Broussard.
And the incompetence of this administration continues to this day. I was in the city yesterday and it is just incredibly sad two years later. Let me tell you the truth -if disaster strikes your world, nobody is coming. Not unless we change today's politics. It is broken like this country is broken.
In the first part of the interview he's reading the notes that some big cheese gave him, spouting out FEMA needs this, FEMA needs that. Then comes the truth, about the when the levee's broke as he crys a river. "Nobody's coming to get us." Hope it stays that way too, what with the FEMA camps dotting the nation, they are the last group I want coming to my rescue.
"FEMA comes in and cuts all of our emergency comminication lines. They CUT THEM, without notice." They had to post Armed Guards around their communications lines so FEMA would not cut it again. Wake up people. Information control. Why?

If he embellishing, that still doesn't take away from the fact the government response to Katrina was shameful.

The biggest fear now is not the catastrophe, it is the government's response to it.

It's amazing that Russert didn't call Broussard on his wall to wall BS. This guy is a complete embarrassment - in full 'pass the buck' mode.
So much for the legacy of Lil' Russ - an overrated hack.

Aaron Broussard sent the Jefferson Parish pump operators out of harm's way because their stations weren't built to withstand such storms.
It was protocol. They knew they were going to get hit hard, USGS told them. I don't know where you get your information, but you should dig deeper.
