I was watching "Best thing I ever Ate" on Food Network, and Duff was talking about....
Wait for it....
Roscoes Chicken and Waffles. Of course it wasn't anything like the one in this movie, but I thought it was sweet. This song popped into my head during that segment.
Only recently discovered that the girl in the center, Brie Howard, is the drummer in the Alexander O'Neal "Criticize" video. Wish there was more of her to watch!
I remember this place. On Sepulveda in Culver City, CA if I remember correctly. Or possibly Overland. One of the streets that ran North-South through Culver. If I remember correclty I think it burned down like a decade ago or possibly longer. I moved from L.A. to S.F. about 4 years ago, so I don;t know what the current status of the place is.
@TroggDoor Also, I know this is the same one because I recognize the other side of the street from the shots through the window. I was trying for a long time to find the previous address on google maps but no such luck. This is either the Roscoe's formerly at 5910 Jefferson, Sepulveda, Sawtelle, or something like that. Culver City for sure though.
I love this scene. Of course the Video Aces guys got paid...in chicken. Incidentally, I didn't know Roscoe's was real. I thought it was a fictional place.
Roscoe's is also mentioned in the film Jackie Brown. Samuel L Jackson talks Chris Tucker into doing a favor by saying he will take him to Roscoe's after.
It's a Southern dish. The idea is that the batter left over from the waffles can be used to fry the chicken. Remember, this recipe came from the poor rural south, where they had to be resourceful and waste nothing.
But no, Americans don't typically eat chicken and waffles. It's more of a specialty dish nowadays. Roscoe's is a real fast food chain in California, though, that does serve chicken and waffles.
yeah, i heard about how they had to be resourceful with what food they could get their hands on. like the whole deal with the ribs... the whites kept the best cut of the meat and discarded the parts that they considered not worthy or something like that.
so the blacks took the ribs and bbq'd them and there ya go... creative cookin'.
I would suggest the one in West Hollywood if you want to see famous people. It across the street from the thrift store that has free HIV testing. You gotta love LA....
Dude, I stole this movie from my ex boyfriends roommate just because of this song! "Roscoe lemme taste yo chicken leg!" You have to see the version they play during the end credits too!
I hope that I get to eat in Roscoe's the next time my family and I are in Los Angeles.I haven't seen this movie, but it looks like John is just walking and clapping at the end. In "Roscoes Chicken & Waffles the movie," the waffles are light colored, but in this Tapeheads Roscoes commercial they are a darker, brown color. Why?
I live in Redding and never ate at "Roscoe's House Of Chicken And Waffles either. I'll try to find "Tapeheads" tomorrow,in Hollywoo. Blockbuster does not have it. Is "Tapeheads" on dvd or only on VHS?
its been quite difficult to get the dvd in germany. but i did my very best. now i can say thats its cusacks greatest movie - not a classic consumers one. i love it.
hahahah,i remember the words too,i thought i'd never see this again.nobody knows what im talkin about when i mention this movie, the Whoopy Boys is great too
Right after my father showed me this hilarious comedy, I went on youtube to see some of the scenes were there and this is by far my favorite part. Thank you so much for the upload, 5/5, it is in my favorite now and I often come to watch it!
