  • Aidan, jokes aside. I love the work you do and the way you make things easy for beginners to get into SU.

I would love it if you could clarify why you use groups (and the Outliner) to hide / unhide sometimes and other times you use layers to do so. Are there better times to use each?

    Cheers...scotty

  • Let's all chip in a couple of bucks and buy Aidan some glass for his windows!!

  • You made burglars life easier for giving them your house plans...!

  • @blackdahliajason Made it easier by having no front door too!!!

  • Does anyone know how you create a seamless joint between 2 groups?

  • I'm doing a project in school and I need help getting an upstairs in as it just messes up the moddel pls help me I'm a big fan !!!!!

  • Hey I'm doing a Project in school I'm good with skech up it's just when I put an up stairs in it just messes up pls help !!!

  • big fan!

  • super helpful.your a god .

    :)

  • I have a lot of respect for your ability to keep your house model simple. I often find it hard not to end up double facing. Great job.

I have a few questions about how to put that furniture together. As far as those rounded edges go, did you just cut an arc and use the follow me tool? Also, were you able build your furniture in scale or did you blow it up or down after it was completed?

  • wow..... i like your house too.... :D

  • i am inspired.

  • This is precisely precise. I now get this group, components and layers stuff. thanks aidanc... gud video

  • Que programa é este?

  • this is like arcGIS in that you can turn layers on and off. :)

  • what's the difference b/t using this program and professional drafting?

  • yeah very cool

and nice home ,,, any way

  • I use Google sketch to make models for Crysis, the game. G. S. is very flexible and stable.More that 3D Max.(When it comes to model importing etc.)No more orange spheres. All the old school, game makers, think we Cryengine users have it easy. That is a pant load.I have put more hours is Google sketch that breathing. Great software and fun !

  • such a nice house! i love the furniture...

  • did u make the furniture

  • You Rock one Billion Times.

  • omg that's awesome! nice vid :)

  • wow quit a few hours!!

  • good

  • This is great. Now I want to do my house.

  • hay if you wanted to move furniture you coul see what it would look like

  • dang dats complicated:D

  • is that realy your house?? nice... is not the same house of the video when you make de dvd center table???....

  • wow pretty impressive

  • Hi, im having problems to get the funitures on the place i want them to stand, suddenly they are under the house and out side the house, can you please tell me how to get them in the easy way?

  • Pretty nice. I met someone like you at a highscool theatre. He was on his laptop using Google sketchup. A kid.

  • cool model. I wanna try this with my home

  • either im rly dumb

    or im missing something.

how do you go INSIDE the house when you have made it and put all the furniture in?

    HELP. :L

  • on your mouse there should be a litle rolly fing inbetween the 2 buttons roll this forwood to zoom in ;)

  • thankss.

    it worked. :D

  • hay go camera(up on the tool bar next to view) then cklick walk or look around

  • thankss.x

  • eye balls or zoom

  • You can basically keep zooming in or use the hand tool to drag "through" the wall. It'll seem that the view isn't moving, because when you go through a different medium (like the wall), google sketchup slows you down. So just keep moving until u enter the house.

  • Now i know what ur house looks like ^^

  • woow.. these vids have been very helpfull!! thank you sooooooooooo much!!!!!!!

    XxX stef

  • Exactly how long did this take?

  • he said in the vid about a few hours.

  • This is exultant videos. It help me to know my work. thanks lot. and i would like to see more videos from you.

    Shainu shaikh

  • Simply smart guy

  • hey i got a question. After the model is all complete, is it possible to view it in orbit with out the sketch up programs . like if i wanna do a presentation but the computer dosnt have sketch up, how can i show them the model???

  • make a vid.? or photo's:P

  • I have gone through all your videos, they are absolutely the most helpful, easy to follow video tutorials. Many thanks for your efforts & hope you are planning to post videos of the other chapters. Thanks again.

  • Do you have a video for making this house? this is just a suggestion, but it would be great if you could build a house from scratch including interior and components. Obviously dividing it into multiple videos like your doing now, but if you could build a house with good demensions to show me and other people how to do it, that would be very cool, and soo helpful, because I've been watching your videos and they are great. I think that that would make your videos even better. thanks!!!

  • big agreee

  • ha thanks.

  • wtf is this program for ? its not for drafting atl east i dont think so im using revit right now i just wanna know what this is for or if its just for fun

  • Hey, ive been watching your videos lately and they are great!!!!!!! i have one question how do u get 2 levels with stairs..? do u have a video for stairs and more than on level? please get back to me thanks!!!!!

  • "i'm kinda stuck right now"

    lol

    thank you for the videos!!

  • Thanks! Finally I figured this out.

  • When I try to hide a component, I can still see it... any suggestions?

  • How are you going about trying to hide the component? Are you using the Outliner?

  • hi aidan,

when i hide w/ outliner, the components in the group are ghosted, but not hidden, and one of the components in the group doesn't even ghost. i'm working on a 5 storey hotel and it's making it hard to isolate each floor.

    thanks!

  • if i knew sketchup as well as you i would definitely have a model of my house made. nice work, and nice tutorials.

  • You have a cool house. It looks cosy. Great vid once again!

  • Thanks!

  • Very interesting video! btw greatest video tutorial ever!!

  • You want to watch the heat from your fire on your TV!!!! Great series - well done! Thanks

  • cool man

  • Hi! Does anybody know if there's a way of inserting the doors directly into a solid wall without having to previously make a hole? (somehow like in ADT or Revit), thanks a lot if anybody knows!

  • cam i just ask what program did you use 2 film this plz can u tell me oh and your vid have helped me loads ty

  • How do you suggest creating the floor plan for the second floor in a model? In your book you only demonstrate creating the first floor. I'm not sure whether to draw it in place, or to draw it elsewhere and move it in, etc.

If in-place, I'm not sure how to draw in top/parallel view and have my floor plan's edges be at the right height (rather than at 0')...

  • I'm bothered by grouping ceilings with the floor above. I know in the book you say not to use layers for floors, but here's my problem:

If I assign the ceilings of floor 1 to group "floor 2" as you suggest, it separates the ceiling geometry from the wall geometry. Then I can no longer move my floor 1 walls without creating a gap between the wall and its ceiling. Layers don't have this problem.

  • Separately, how do you suggest creating the floor plan for the second floor in a model? In your book you only demonstrate creating the first floor. I'm not sure whether to draw it in place, or to draw it elsewhere and move it in, etc.

If in-place, I'm not sure how to draw in top/parallel view and have my floor plan's edges be at the right height (rather than at 0')...

  • oy check out my sirst sketxhup video of my first house which is my house.... its not bad actually.

  • I think it looks great! Congrats!

Maybe I should use exciting music in my videos, too : )

  • would be cool.. but nothing to fancy though :)

    thanks these tutorials HELPED!

i love you for this...your a good presenter too!

(sorry for my english.. im 15 and Dutch.. hehe)

  • wow! that was great!! wich Sketchup version you used?

  • Hey, looks like we are at least two french guys who bought the book ! It has become my bible (oh God, I am a geek now!)

  • He's got a book? Where? I want to buy it. I'll check his profile.

  • Only one word : wonderfull. I discover this program a few weeks ago and these videos make me easy to draw some buildings, even if I am french talking. Thanks Aidan for you great help.

  • De rien, mon ami!

  • I just bought your book :-)

  • Thanks! I hope you like it :) - Aidan

  • great video! very informative! I really had some trouble with organizing my models, until today, tks so much!
