Music has made good movies into legendary movies.. i.e. First Blood, Rocky, Star Wars, Jaws, Indiana Jones, Gone With The Wind... Nevermind the cgi and vulgarity. How about bringing good plots, acting, and music back?
theese movies are really to show what war is really about...live for nothing...but die for something...this is what we do....we kick some evil ass....
I saw this on cable at my uncles house on Friday in the early 80's. I watched it every time it was on until school on Monday. Totally blown away. One of my favorite movies. I have the knife.
Such a shame they made all those shitty sequals. The original rocks.
It would have been better if the movie ended the same way the novel did, in which Rambo fools Trautman into shooting him. This scene was shot for the movie but at the time, they feared people would be let down by the "sad ending".
Many real Vietnam vets experienced what Rambo did at the beginning of the movie. Seen as "damaged goods" by the society they returned to
Jerry Goldsmith had 17 Oscar nominations, only won 1. Unfair
This image at the start of the first movie and the one where he is walking down the road of his home farm is just great. Can I ask if the inage above is a screen capture, or if not, where might find it? Thanks for posting both.
i wonder what happen to that pig king shit cop teagel probably paralyzed.....nah brian dehnehey kicks ass....happy fourth of july everyone!! and remember bout those terrorist THEY DREW FIRST BLOOD!......
It's amazing how different the movie is from the original novel. For instance: in the film, the story takes place in the Pacific Northwest. In the novel, it takes place in Madison, Kentucky. I love the book & the film.
@emperorofmoldavia1 Also in the book Rambo died when Troutman blew his brains out, which caused Kirk Douglas to drop out playing Troutman cause he had a disagreement with the filmakers as to why they didn't stick to the ending from the book.
@OneCrazyWolfman Quite true. Another difference I enjoyed was how, in the book, Rambo actually killed Teasle's posse and in the film he simply hospitalized them. Have you read any of David Morrell's other work? I've at least read First Blood Part II & The Fraternity Of The Stone. I first read his work when I was a Senior in high school, starting with First Blood, and I've been a huge fan, ever since.
When some people look at Rambo, they picture him as a cold killer, but actually he was a nice man until SOMEONE had to come and charge him with vagrancy for nothing. Rambo wasn't fighting a war with the police, he was fighting the war that was inside him.
@chikautube He is actually a correct decent man, but overwhelmed by circumstances that leave him by his own, with nobody else whom he can turn to. A very well developed character, touching and deep.
You never expect such a gritty, serious action flick about a vet suddenly turned on by an abusive town to then fight his own countrymen in the army to start out so peacefully. This music fits in as to someone just roaming around, taking in the fresh air, and admiring the scenery.
Truly expresses a genuine sense of humanity to John Rambo. Someone who is trying to find peace after Vietnam..
rambo first blood is one of my favorite movies from Sly next to rocky. I feel for him because he was pushed just for trying to eat and live and he fought for his country.
@assaultk47 I can relate to that . Its a wonderfully composed piece of music which suits the intro . What a shame Stallone wasn't nominated for an Academy award for his performance I think .
Rambo First Blood is the best movie outta the entire series, and its good still despite no one actually gets killed by Rambo lol. well intentionally anyway (helicopter police officer lol)
This masterpiece is as gritty and REAL!!!! (can't emphasize that enough) as it gets...the days of Hollywood producing classic films such as this are seemingly long gone. "Homecoming", as well as the score as a whole, were simply a GRAND SLAM from the late, great Jerry Goldsmith. God rest his soul..
@phantomlord54 I hear that. It seems, these days, it's rare when Hollywood actually comes out with anything good. And, yes, Jerry was a hell of a composer. One of my favorites, along with John Williams. May he rest in peace.
wolfover552-sir I hear you loud and clear. The whole reason I joined the military and now retired. May be a movie to most but I am proud to be one like him. The Vietnam Vets trained me and I learned well. In years to come with current wars that legacy holds true today. My salute to you. Be proud of what you did because it made my life what it is today.
Im a bit of a sentimentalist + when I listen to this track I feel like Im being rocketed into a 4th dimension of existence . Its totally gripping . The acting from Stallone throughout and especially in the final scene is unsurpassed in any equivalent action movie . Ted Kotcheff did a superb job at directing this film . A masterpiece .

@Bzttrex We get this because all the old people will die soon, they can't make music thats all over the radio anymore.. In 50 years the world will be run by people who make/like rap and this shit!... We need to stand up and do something!
Rambo 4 sucked. Rambo 3 was too cartoonish. Rambo: First Blood: Part 2 was a big, dumb chunk of iconic action b.s.. First Blood delivered, but was a bunch of mush-mouthed propaganda. But, at least it delivered.
@KOkiller1289 I need to get off the whole of YouTube, because I hold an opinion? Okay, war hero, whatever. But, a little perspective... I've seen all four movies. I was actually looking foward to the last movie; in hopes that Sly would close out the series in style, like he did with Rocky. I took my fiancee; we saw it at the Beverly Center, here in L.A.; and with popcorn and soda, I ended up spending $41! So, I got a little skin in the game, buddy. Rambo just standing behind a .50 cal? Come on!

First Blood, the first movie, is definitely the best in the Rambo series. And this opening scene still makes me cry, this one and the final scene although I saw the movie many times. The music is just wonderful...

First Blood, the first movie, is definitely the best in the Rambo series. And this opening scene still makes me cry, this one and the final scene although I saw the movie many times. The music is just wonderful...

First Blood is the best of the series. And the opening scene, with this music, always gives me the chills even though I've watched it 10^6 times.
