For the too young to remember crowd, the word "SNAFU" is Army slang for Situation Normal All F&%$#@ Up. Mel Blanc did the voice for the gullible private. This series of cartoons were very popular with US troops. Also, since these were officially "military training films", they were exempt from the Hayes Office film codes, allowing a certain "saltiness" to the dialog (You can hear the occasional "Hell" and "Damn" in other Private Snafu cartoons).
