Wierd thing to try but it shouldn't do any damage to the sub. The driver is fine to use in either ported or sealed cabs and closing the port off would have the effect of creating a low Q sealed box. Covering it with paper would cause the vent to act more like an aperiodic port.

the z5500 sub isnt 318 some z5500 owners did research on it and its only like 188 watts not 188watts RMS sorry for the bad new but it still works :(
