  • Great result, thanks a lot!

  • HELP. When I'm opening the program I put ALL the setting you do. But when I put FILTERS, it says that my INPUT is 320x240 but I want this to be 1920x1080 (my screen resolution). How the hell do I do this??? I want to record my SCREEN when I play a game online in the browser. So I clicked File --> Capture AVI and continued there to crop the size of the game-window. When I click CAPTURE it says "VIDEO COMPRESSOR ERROR: THE SOURE IMAGE FORMAT IS NOT ACCEPTABLE (ERROR CODE -2). Can you HELP?

  • @WlPPAN VirtualDub is not a screen-recording application. For that you'll need something like Fraps or similiar.

Although VDub CAN record screen, it's not designed to do that as a primary function.

  • @Mamboi oh..then someone tricked me into that..crap :( thanks anyway for fast response

  • @WlPPAN Though VDub was originally designed to record anime shows from TV (it still can, I've no idea how however.) as stated by phaeron, the VDub creator.

  • @WlPPAN And if you REALLY are set to record your screen with VDub you can go to my blog donsalva.com and search for "Real-Time Screen capture/recording easily done with VirtualDub".

You can try it if it works, if it doesn't then I'm sorry. There's plenty of alternatives to record your screen.

  • @WlPPAN make shore that when your cropping the video its all the same numbers ihade the same problem if it helps got to my youtube and ill put a tut

  • thanks it works!!!! great tutorial! :)

  • For some reason the audio desynchs when I use the codec in Vegas. Any help?

  • Material is HD PVR or Easy Cap ?

  • @TheMonsterLegendPS3 Neither. I record with Fraps.

  • Hey man thanks, but i got the old codec of H.264, and from 10 sec fraps video i get 167 MB video files, I was like ffffffffffffffff..... FFFFFFFFFFFFF..... FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUUU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! But then, i downloaded the latest H.264 codec, 1 minute to render 10 sec. video file from fraps, file size = 4 MB. I was like yyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy........... YYYYYYYYYYYYYYYYY.......... YYYYYYYYYYYYEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!! THANK YOU MAN!

  • What do you do after all this? Just ave as AVI?

  • I can't download it. All that there is the commandline versions.

  • the fucking download thing does not work there is no where you can even click to download its fucking pissing me off

  • How do you install the codec into virtual dub?

  • @JZammR You don't. You install the codec. VDub makes use of the codec you installed.

  • @Mamboi When i search for the compressions on virtual dub, the codec pack does NOT appear, I installed it but am not sure how to install it, because it's a very complicated installment

  • @JZammR Check the description: If you've got problems installint K-Lite get the one from Komisar. The VFW-version. There are always 2 builds. x86 and x86_64. The second one is 64Bit.

  • @Mamboi Can you please make a video showing u the installation process of the codec because there is loads of options, and I am not the only one with problems as seen in comments below :)

  • @JZammR Do me a favor: Disregard K-Lite, get Komisar's. There are NO options in Komisar's. Download, install, done.

  • @Mamboi What download link do i click on when i open up the Kommisar page in your description?

  • @Mamboi Nvm, i found it! everything works great now, thanks for you responses!

  • What??? 80mb for a 6min video??? I was uploading my files with 300mb and this 80mb video from your tutorial has better quality.

You just saved me precious time while uploading and my subscribers will enjoy the quality. And ofc, i subscribed to you and i'll see what else u can show me :D

    Thank you so much

  • 66.66666 = broken pixels

  • clicked on the klight codec link and i didnt know where to click download D; there was 5 fucking ads pretending to be a download button god that pisses me off

  • thanks for the tips

  • what is the size of an average 10-15 minute video?

  • @mike12724 OVER 9000!!!

  • @Mamboi dude awesome video, best tutorialever. i always use Virtualdub but always compressed it with the mpeg codec. I'll definitely try x264 out. Thank you.

I hope the video size won't be OVER 9000 as you say xD

  • @mike12724 its like 1gb or somthing

  • i am having the same problem i installed the codec pack and it doesnt appear any codecs in compression.

  • i dont have the 3 tabs for the codec config. Do I have to set it up a certain way?

  • @ChuicyProductions Different codec. Read the description.

  • @Mamboi It is the same codec I've checked multiple times. Thanks for the vid btw.

  • @ChuicyProductions If you don't have the 3 tabs in the codec config then you obviously are not using the same codec.

There are 2 versions of the x264vfw codec: Komisar's and MasterNobody's. K-Lite Codec Packs ditched the Komisar's version for whatever reason and started to use MasterNobody, which is the same but has an entirely different config UI.

  • I have a problem! Ok i doenload and install the x264 cocec it doesn't show it on Virtual Dub! O.o! WTF? Pls reply fast

  • @dualcoregamer1911 Check and make sure you have the x86 version of Virtualdub and NOT the x64 one--virtualdub x64 does not support all the popular codecs.

  • @hav9k I checked! Any other help?

  • which link must i choose in the komisar site??

  • i downloaded The k-Lite Mega pack and the x264vfw isnt showing up under the codec list in Virtual Dub. what am i doing wrong?

  • @TheCrucialxXx Forget K-Lite Mega Pack, use the Komisar link in the description.

  • @Mamboi i tried that one as well and it still wont show up

  • @TheCrucialxXx Can't help you then.

  • @TheCrucialxXx Forget K-Lite Mega Pack, use the Komisar link in the description.

  • screen recorder please.

  • @MrDeathmoon29 chocolate please.

  • @Mamboi chocolate?

  • Thanks alot for your effort in providing us with some instructions on how to setup VirtualDub,in order to archieve useable results in 720p encoding.Very much appreciated. :) <3

  • Why doesn't my x263vfw configuration menu show the tabs? I downloaded and installed the latest version, and the Analysis & encoding and Rate control tabs arent there. Also my main configuration screen is ordered in different sections. How do I fix this?

  • @eriktheg500 Different x264vfw version. google komisar x264 builds, download and install.

  • @MrOakzyBhoy96 VirtualDub ist not for recording. It's for processing the recorded videos.

  • @Mamboi you could use it for recording as well

  • @dominickemilio1994 Not for gameplay videos. Although, yes, VirtualDub was created by its creator to record anime from TV.

  • @Mamboi dude i just recorded my dazzle on virtualdub for a little gameplay test...it can record basically anything if you have the right stuff

  • @dominickemilio1994 Dude, I know, dude. Virtualdub ain't intended for extensive gameplay recording, dude. Dig, dude?

  • @Mamboi -_-

  • Never mind, it's showing now. o_O

  • Just like everyone else, having codec issues, gonna skip this step.

  • i just wanna say I LOVE U MAN thx for help!

  • How the hell do you get the codecs to appear on virtualdub? ive downloaded codecs a million times but there is nothing there! im using win 7 btw..

  • @KU0R Check out the same article on my blog. Link is in the video description.

  • It's easier just to download win live movie maker, create your own 720p setting(1280 x 720) and done... 9 min video, lol, 3 seconds to read my comment.... decisions decisions.

  • @halomaster0007 Obviously you fail miserably on all fronts to get the point of this video.

  • i downloaded the "K-Lite MEGA Codec Pack" and the "v264" thing isn't there and i even tried to download it seperatly and it still doesn't show up any advice?

  • @MrK0n31 nvm got it working:D but super thanks for uploading this vid

  • I downloaded the k light pack. But it doesnt appear when I select compression.

    can you help me out

  • Is there a way to get it like 1080?

  • @blueheadedpants Sure, use other resolution instead of 1280x720. 1920x1080 is 1080p Full-HD.

  • I am researching how to upload the best format, cant you just put "disabled" in the aspect ratio and manually put the resolution?

  • @StarcraftLA Actually i tried that and the image looked a little bit skewed. I guess u just have to resize it to the nearest possible resolution to 720p without going smaller

  • Eh i downloaded the codec pack and its still not there!!!!!! HELP!!!!!!!!

  • the threads i have core 2 quade cpu what should i do

  • The codec isn't appearing for me and im using Windows 7.

  • @STRING3R Then you don't have it installed.

  • @Mamboi I have the same issue. Installed the codec pack successfully but VirtualDub doesn't display it :/

  • @STRING3R Same problem here,

solution:install 32 bit version of virtual dub. Seems to be the only fix right now

  • @edazq *with install i mean download - there is no installer

  • @STRING3R As a British friend told me: "Video encoding is NOT 64-bit friendly. Welcome to the learning curve..."

    FK

  • I've got some decent Dazzle Quality, check it out.

  • you have a nice coolers!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • @TheEminemRaps say what?

  • Gracias!!

  • @Pollaris75 6.0, made no difference to 5.9 and previous ones. Quality's the same.

  • @Pollaris75 No I didn't. Same values as in the video.

  • Ah i cant follow this! The current version of this codec doesnt have the same page options at all!

  • @awkookrenewed I know, use 6.0.0 or 5.9.0

  • @Mamboi I just downloaded an old version with these same settings. My video came out like crap! Look at my latest video, the sven coop one to see what it came out like.

  • @awkookrenewed Looks fine to me in 480p. It isn't 720p HD tho.

  • @Mamboi Yeah I dont know why its not. I rendered in AVI uncompressed with 1280x720 then did the virtual dub. If i recorded in 800x600 then rendered in 1280x720 that doesnt need resizing right? Also why does it look better on youtube?

  • @awkookrenewed Of course it needs resizing. Up-scaling to be precise. What do you call going from 800x600 UP TO 1280x720?

  • @Mamboi Yeah but if i rendered the AVI uncompressed in 1280x720 doesn't that already put the video in 720p resolution even if it's not true 720p?

  • How to you choose the size it records in? Mine comes out in 640x480 first and then I have to stretch mine to 856x480

  • Thanks for the video

  • Thank you very much! I'm definitely subscribing.

  • i have K-lite Codec Pack and i dont have the Virtual dub codec..

    Sorry for my english

  • ur english is great :S

  • READ THIS FOR WINDOWS 7 64-BIT:

    1. Download VirtualDub 32-bit

    2. Download and install K-Lite Mega Pack

    3. Restart Windows

  • Oh and for step 3, choose "Profile 8: Lots of stuff (without Player)

  • Sorry, step 2, I'm going too quickly here!

  • For all people running Windows 7 and say they can not get the codecs to show up in VirtualDub. Make sure you have downloaded the 32-bit VirtualDub instead of the 64-bit VirtualDub, even if you are running a 64-bit Windows 7 package. The codec package itself is 32-bit therfore it will not show up in the 64-bit VirtualDub Software.

  • Great tutorial! I'm experimenting a bit, one thing though when you configure you set it at 25 which is right in the middle for quality, is there really no noticable difference if you go to 10 or something?

  • oh well i found out about tf2's startvideo name avi thing and the codecs show up there, and that works fine. thanks for the x264 settings.

  • I've been trying to get fucking codecs to show up in vdub for the last fucking 2 hours. Every god damned googled solution doesn't work, it's really pissing me off.

    using windows 7, 64bit.

  • Have you selected the h.264 codec during installation?

  • EVERYTHING was selected. Vdub has nothing but some codecs listed, such as ffdshow, fraps, 2 intel codecs, and two microsoft codecs, rather then there being a huge list of them.

  • use 32-bit vdub. im on the same operating system as u and it worked for me

  • @2Dzz you may need to make sure you have 64-bit extensions. I use 'shark007' Win7 codec pack + the 64-extensions from the same site. Never have any problems.

google 'shark007' and you'll get to the site.

  • @2Dzz same problem bro im win7 ultimate buy bob up 2 8.5m

    64bit aswell

  • PLS REPLY

can u tell me how to capture FULL SCREEN

  • Use FRAPS...

  • I installed the codec pack in your link, and virtualdub does not have the codec in this video.

    Here's what I did:

-Download the pack from your link

    -Ran the pack

-Did not touch any options, and installed.

    -Restarted computer

-Ran my copy of Virtualdub (1.9.8 build 32706/release) and opened the video I wanted

    -Opened "Compression" option

-Only 9 options are available for compression.

    What did you do different?

  • Nevermind. If anyone has the problem I was having with the codecs not appearing, make sure that during the installation that under "Select Components" that you pick "Profile 8: Lots of Stuff (without player)"

This should install what you want hopefully.

  • @zallard1 Helped a lot. TY very much.

  • @zallard1 Im having same problem

  • my video when it came out was like 2.4gb for a 1 minnute 25 second video any ideas on that

  • thank you very much

  • Thank you very much, has greatly helped :)

  • ahh! got it, jsut reinstalled the codec like the other guy and it worked! one my question, when you record in fraps do you record in half size? or full size?

  • Both, depending what I want. But check my blog (link in description), I've since written another "tutorial" for half-size recording.

  • hey, i downloaded the K lite mega codec. how do i install it so i can select it in the compression selection screen? plz reply! all of your settings make the video look great but I need to know how to get the codec so it looks even better!

  • I downloaded and installed K-Lite codec pack mega, but my VirtualDub does not see H264 compression. any advice?

  • Yea, get the mega not full package.

  • Mega is exactly what I got, not full

  • Oh well, must be something you did wrong. Works just fine for me. Even on Win7.

  • I just reinstalled the pack and now it works well. Thank you so much!

  • I cant get this working on windows 7

  • virtualdub has a problem with seeing codes on win7, use sony vegas or something else

  • Works fine for me...

  • my file size is 13gb for a 7 minuite clip lol, how much will this reduce it by?

  • Can't say. Depends on your settings.

  • the video codec site has been suspended

  • Just google the software name ffs.

  • no, it hasn't. codecguide . com is still online.

  • it doesn't. you are producing false positivs, simple as that.

  • Because if it were having a virus, prominent software sites wouldn't offer to download it.

Check your facts first, pretty please.

  • dude i'm not lying, you need to get your facts right. just tried it again, the actual installer isn't a virus, but when it downloads the media pack it gets blocked by all 4, and yes, i tried 4 now just to be sure stopped it and quarantined it...

  • Whatever suits you... according to virustotal . com (and me) the pack is virus free.

My antivirus, which is paranoia tuned, doesn't say anything.

I can't help you if you download it from suspicious sites and not from the author site.

You're talking about "it downloads". The pack itself doesn't download anything on its own. It's your doing somehow.

  • listen im sorry it's my mistake, i downloaded from the site you did, but somehow it gave me a different exe.. o.0

  • Thanks for the great video, really helped me a lot

  • so what do i do if my resolution is

    1024x768?

  • You can still do it this way, but then you UPscale your video and lose quality excluding the quality loss during transcoding. So you lose quality 2 times this way.

  • can i make this in a movie file?

  • huh??

  • I don't worry so much about HD video because of the file size is to big average size is about 30 mb depending lenth of it....it could go up to 50 mb++ I got my videos down to 11 to 14 mb and it looks pritty good its not HD but good enough...

  • So? I still want my videos to be viewable as HD.

In order to do that I need them to be 1280x720. 300-400mb for 10 min. 1280x720p HD is pretty decent.

  • lol yeah I OK!!! I hear yah..:)

  • What about if i have 1680x1050 Resolution?

  • What about it? Doesn't matter what resolution you have as long as it's larger than 1280x720...

  • "File" -> "Open Video File" -> select 1. video -> "File" - > "Append Avi Segment" -> select 2. video -> voilá 6 min. of single video file

  • oh and how can i add a audio file like a song into the vid with virtualdub?

  • "audio" -> "audio from other file..."

  • thanks man

  • is this free software or do you have to pay? it ay sound like a stupid question but i have never heard of this before.

    thanks

  • VitualDub is free to download.

  • ok i record with fraps and fraps seperates the vids youve recorded into 3 min vids. is there anyway i can put two 3min vids together rather than going into windows movie maker then combining them then going onto virtualdub? like is there anyway to put 2 vids together with virtualdub?
