The intro price for this heli is over $20,000...I certainly hope that its not easy to crash...The purpose of the heli is not for pleasure...its for gathering intel and images/ video...Essentially its a small business. I just watched all of their demo videos...This is the ultimate package.
Dude I have a draganfly III ......I crash that bitch every time out LOL !! It adds to the exitement, I have been flying it for years and the better I get the more I crash. I would have to say they are tough as nails, 30+MPH straight into a tree trunk, No Problem clip the board back in, snap the dome back on, twist the motors straight, ready to crash again..
@SuperBrechtje WOW! I just called the 1-800 number.... the rep told me they start at 19,000 USD. Flight time 15 mins. And for that price I'd want it to be that stable so I would never crash it!
@simusfr The video is to show that the craft is stable in the aspect that you can't flip it over. You can still fly it into the ground or other objects. Older versions didn't have the gyroscopes to tell the craft that it was about to flip but this one has a feedback loop that limits the propeller rotation once a certain orientation is reached. I don't understand why it took them "thousands" of lines of code though. I could probably do it in a a couple hundred.
It not design for leisure flying, it design for emergency services, a knock down version from the military UAVs (thats why you can't hear the motor running).
It more complicated than Segway's balancing system, probably it as sophisticated as the military UAV heli.
They should do a hobby version though with tons of add-ons rather than built-in
It definitely looks stable to me. I think you can crash it by either flying it or letting it drift (high wind) into an object. I don't know if it will fall out of the sky if you go full throttle down from altitude. Either way...I think the operator/pilot would have more to do with it crashing than the aircraft itself. :-)

What fun is flying RC helis if you don't crash every other flight for your first year?
