whew "pre-magnum" is right, that was a three syllable word right there, good for you cptexas1, plusssss it isnt for performance it is for the sound and to reduce the backpressure to allow a more free flowing exhaust to reduce strain on the engine. i guess that is why i bothered.

@cptexas1 the pre magnums last a hell of a lot longer and 150hp aint bad cause the diesels just had 170hp and you can do some simple mods to get well over 250hp but the 318s are a hell of a lot better than a 360

Sounds just like my 89 318 on startup. Always wants to die. It has the 318TBI. I have replaced everything I can think of too.

i got an 89 dodge ram 150 with the 310 in it. played with the exaust a little but thats it. im gunna start toying with it over the summer, just minor stuff, flows, maby a four barrel carb, new air cleaners, plugs, wires, ect. can i expect to gain much preformance?

I have a 1989 Dodge Ram D100 with a 318 in it. When I start the truck it needs to be in reverse. Also, when in Park, it slips out and goes into reverse....could that be because its low on tranny fluid, or another poblem? Thanks

try adjusting your gearshift linkage, just out through your firewall. if your truck has a body lift, this could affect it, as well as just being altered.

@mcelrec Dont no if it helps but i had a 75 ford f250 that always sliped from park to reverse and would never start because you would shut it off in park and ya it would slip in to revers wile sitting was just the shift cable.

get a bottle of seafoam...it will clean out your fuel injectors. Also check your oxygen sensor and your air delivery system. I have the same truck and i had the same problem.

as for the one you should buy, i would say $1500...roughly..depending on the shape up to $3000. this truck is automatic.

if that is a 89 it would be tbi and would not almost die on the first few seconds of startup.  no offense it sounds good and everything but either something is wrong with your tbi or it was converted to carb.

it is an 89. it is throttle body. the idle speed controler didnt work. i put a whole new injector setup on it, and it is running like a top now.

the interior and tail gate on this ram are the older style too.
