@boilerjack Sort of.... It will relay and sync to speeds of 1/200th of a second. Making it very hard to do a lot of outdoor stuff. More light, combined with shallow DOF apertures, mean high speed sync would be required. It is quite common to need to sync to speeds faster than 1/1000th of a second. The 7D does not have High Speed Sync built in. Meaning a 580 or an STE would still be required.
@StefanDall The D80 is a few years old now and I was really speaking on newer models. Obviously there may be some older models that can do this as well.
O ok thanks for the insight, can't explain how much I have helped me...also, can u give me and example of where the 24-70 would be better to use in a certain situation and also when the 24-105 would be better in certain situations...thank you in advance
Hi! i'm a great fan of yours and i really get a lot of tips specially for lighting photographs. I'm just wondering since i'm just a newbie for photography, on how you do the shots with a like of darker circular shadow around the photo, do you do it with simply adjusting settings on your dslr? or perhaps using a speedlight/fill light for it? or you just simply edit it with your photo editing software. Help please!:) by the way, you have really amazing photos! high 5!
There is a ton of other stuff there you will enjoy as well. I only upload a few things here. And what I do upload here, is just a part of the larger video. You are only seeing a small piece here.
Good tutorial explaining about using off camera flash. Hardware....eh ? A cheap photoelectric cell sensor with a hot shoe adpator will work in a pinch if your camera has a pop up flash. TTL doesn't care or know how many flashes your using, it only measure the exposure. I use Calmets wireless transmitters to shoot flash manually. 3rd party TTL will be a hit or miss . I don't think they have quite matched the processing power or speed required. Cannon and Nikons camera chips have.
great tutorial. just curious, why not mention the concept of utilizing either a wireless transmitter or pocket wizard etc... to trigger the slave flash?
Most wireless transmitters are not TTL compatible. Pocket Wizard makes some that are, but I went through 5 of them trying to get them to function with consistency and never could. Outside of TTL they work great. With TTL, they were too sporadic. This was 6 months ago. They have since come out with an software update to fix that, but I have not tried it. Besides, these would be something you would add to the mix later to grow. It is cheaper to use the built in capability of the flash at first.
Well i was wondering how do u make fast sync flash?

Great video. You say that only Nikon D90 and above can act as commencer, but I have the D80 and it can also use the built in flash as a commander.

Nice tip!
Would it be useful to use one of those L bracket things to take the flash off the camera or is it to little of a distance?

@kauxkaux Not far enough to change the look. Needs to be 6 feet or more.

@Mozo901 It would be easier for you to contact meditectly instead of on YouTube. But yes I can.

Why did you get the canon 24-105 L Instead of the 24-70 L lens???? Any recommendation will be greatly apreacitated
Mozo901 1 year ago
@Mozo901 I use a full frame camera and do tons of portraits. F/4 is about perfect for portraits at 100mm. Plus it is a sharper lens.
But who says I don't own the 24-70 ?? I have several lenses.

that makes sense. i just know that in most cases, a transmitter that works with TTL will be significantly cheaper than the 580.
i personally use the same setup you recommended (580 EX II and 430 EX) and love it!
