Hard to say. Two things to look for 1. make the top cut just to the top of the drilled hole. Second if you still have pith in the base of the antler drop some glue down the hole to seal the pith.
this is the same guy, my pc used an old account last night after i did a system restore, im uploading the video now and will post as a response to yours if you like, it will be uploaded in an hour and a half, i'll post it tonight some time
I like this looks like a great project I would def like to make one . The only thing I would say is I like the nareld bits at the base most whitetail antlers around here are smooth not much trash on them so for me makes it stand out some makes it look A little more one of a kind . Great video great project again as always thanks Sean ! 5/5
Thats cool, what about putting a fire steel on the other end to make it multi purpose, with maybe a button compass on another piece antler to go over the fire steel, cool video

HEY MATE, NEVER PUT YOU HAND IN FRONT OF THE CUTTING EDGE OF ANY TOOL!
If your vice needs stabilizing bolt it down properly. Antler is notorious for crumbling, fracturing to the point of exploding and then the drill bit would crash into your hand. That would be tragic.
hey! sean you might need to tell the boys what size drill bit you used to drill the center with up the middle . Rod

@TheWaggaBloke
It would depend on the amount of pith to be removed and the size of dowel available. Normally 7mm though.

Can you make a fire pump from an antler? Great video!

That would be a great emergency whistle...to pipe aboard passengers to a life raft or calling for help to dogs.

for anyone interested, it takes about ten seconds to make a whistle out of two acorn shells,
not sure how well the sound carries, but when done right it is loud enough to leave ringing in the ears for a while after,
farleydb 2 years ago
Could you show how to do this. I have not heard of this before and would like to know.
seanmulhall 2 years ago
yeah no worries,
i'll knock up a video this weekend and get it explained,
literally a few seconds and then just getting used to using it, its so simple its stupid,
ah , hold on, i have half hour , i'll do it now,
