  • My Dad died Thursday and I heard this song today for the first time. What a Beautiful song. Thank you Robert and Alison

  • this is coming from a pure heavy metal fan & been so for years and years, i love alison krauss's music and my eye's fill with water listening to this song, fantastic song!!!!

  • My daughter lost her husband of only 37 years of age this past April, we played this song at his funeral and it is only now that I can listen to it without tremendous pain, although it still makes me cry...but also gives me comfort. Just Beautiful

  • @MyMusic618 they played this at my grandpa's funeral, its the 1st time i heard it since then & it still makes my eyes well up. what a beautiful song

  • Wish I could listen to this song without getting all teary-eyed.

  • Wow. At first glance it seems like an odd combination of voices and styles, but they go together well. T-Bone Burnett was right.

  • The video is AWESOME!

  • This is pics of my home.... my beautiful west virginia home...i grew up along this river and these mountains

  • This has to be the prettiest song on the album.

  • I think Harpers Ferry is so beautiful. I live in Loudon County VA and Harpers Ferry is one of my favorite places to walk around and enjoy the wonder of nature. That, along with this song was really wonderful. Thank you.

  • RP & Allison blend beautifully their voices and your video has some very lovely shots. I guess it was shorter than you anticipated? :-)

  • Nice video for a beautiful song. Love Alison Krauss and who expected a duet album with Robert Plant? It's nice to hear an Autoharp in new music. It's so unusual.

    Thanks for posting!

  • I searched for this song and finally found it through the lyrics. We saw Alison K. at Charlottesville, VA and she did a simple rendition of this song with a soft string backup. Having just lost my mom, it brought tears to my eyes. Nice to see Harper's Ferry here too. It's a lovely place. Kathy in PA

  • una belleza

  • I laike

  • Very nice nature

  • I thought this was the beautiful voice of Kate Rusby when I first heard it but Alison Krauss's voice is just as wonderful. Her and Robert Plant work really well together on this. I shall check out more of her stuff

  • This song is so beautiful. I don't live far from the author of this song, Doc Watson, he wrote it with his darling Rosa Lee. Couple of months ago I heard Robert Plant sing this live at Merle Fest.

  • beautiful...ty for posting

  • Beautiful job for a beautiful song.

  • This is BRILLIANT. ~ Bravo.

  • Your video outshines the way the music was done. A pairing of Allison's voice and simple instruments would have been much better. No reason the play within the melody distracting from what would have been touching. There may be some good cuts on the album, this however, wasn't one of them.

  • what can I say these two are pure magic together

    are all of these pictures from West Virginia

    very well done

    thanks for posting

  • This was played at my sister's funeral...the lyrics are so moving and the opening just brings back the memories of that day. Its a beautiful beautlful song.........

  • Praying that God will greatly comfort those who have lost loved ones, and bring you much healing and peace in your hearts.

  • this is one of the most beautiful songs with such meaningful words i have ever heard.It was played at my brother in laws funeral....such a most special amazing person i have ever met who was loved by everyone.When i hear this song it brings tears to my eyes & a lump in my throat but my brother in law loved the song & i realize why....such a brave man who never once was bitter about his illness.R.I.P John xxxx

  • This song makes me think of how much I love my wife and how painful it would be to be separated from her by the "long journey".

  • This enchanting song is being performed at Mickey ONeills funeral in Ireland,on 19th August 2010

    He played with Brendan Bowyer in LasVegas for the last 28 years.

    God be good to him.

  • I would have never imagined these two together... They are awesome! I know I am slow to catch on, but this is wonderful!

  • One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard.

  • Ma'm...would you like/stand a bit of help on your 'journey' ...i would love to help you if'f'n i can...i ain't got much..but i'll help all i can!!

  • Fantastic version! Brings tears to your eyes!

  • big kisses and good luck

  • can you delete the last four minutes of silence and blank screen?

  • Beautiful! Love the pictures of Harper's Ferry. Thank you!

  • To Woodfamily above...I lost my husband 7 years ago in a logging accident. Yes this song makes me think of him and the long journey my daughter and i have been on. We only had one child, I can't imagine your journey with 6. Let their love surround u on your journey :)

  • simply...Divine ;0)

  • beautiful. Just what I needed this evening.

  • Beautiful journey ... thank you.

  • Wow, they harmonize incredibly well.

  • My husband was killed at work and I was left on this earth with all six of our children. This song hits me hard. It's lovely but hits me deeply to the core. My youngest was just born and to think of my own long journey alone is hard to take,

  • @woodfamily

    I would love to see Good ends to all long journeys. Many of the ones I have tred have been sad. May all of yours be full of joy.

    Peace.

  • @woodfamily My partner is still with me...but the Big C is trying to claim her...my very best woodfamily

  • @dolmenman1 I will never leave you willingly and am doing my best to fight this terrible disease - Our Long Journey will be together for a long while yet.

  • @woodfamily

    My husband was killed over 30 years ago in an accident near our home. I was 8 mo. pregnant with our 1st child. I thought I would never heal, be happy, look to the future nor be able to accept the past w/o feeling such grief.But it can and does happen.I am 60 yrs old now, and have led a full life.I look forward to the day when I will meet my husband and all who began their long journey before me.Our physical form passes away but our souls live forever. You're in my prayers.

  • @Arbuncbukle9 - This is a fantastic song and i can fully understand why it means so much to you - best wishes

  • @Arbuncbukle9- My husband was killed by a machine at his workplace 15 years ago.Our son was only 5 months old.My heart goes out to you honey-I`ve felt the very same thing,but life does go on and happiness ,healing,and the ability to look forward to the future does happen.I know we will all be reunited again in Heaven someday.Until then we all need to remember our loved ones who have passed would never want to see us anything but full of happiness and love.

  • @woodfamily I hope you have found comfort somewhere by now. Bless you all. Grief is a process that sometimes takes a long time. Shed tears for you all. I am almost 70 and my life is not for much longer, so grief is a waste of time and bother to me, but I understand the need to grieve, and still do. Have you ever heard the song "Held" by Natalie Grant?

  • after listening to this i cannot wait to buy some plant/krauss albums...also, the photos in this vid are simply amazing...i want to go there lol...where were they taken???

  • Shenandoah Valley; mountains of Virginai I think. That's where Harpers Ferry is ????

  • It is in West Virginia geographically But actually its a point where West Virginia ,Virginia and Maryland meet :)

  • Comment removed

  • makes me sad and happy at the same time. lol. i love them so much

  • brings love and happiness to my heart

  • Amen.

  • dédicace à Kévin et à Léa

  • @an64 the world is a garden my friend...dig it all!! = )

  • Very Nice Job On The Video

    I Like It Alot!

  • thank you

  • Why is most of this video just blackness?

  • Beautiful beyond words...

  • Lovely song.

    kindest greetings amsterdam

  • Agree with you all...

  • I was wondering where the pictures where from. I would have guess Virginia.

    The pictures have changed since it was first posted.

  • Hi the pictures are from Harpers Ferry .And are the same I have not changed them

  • actually... Harper's Ferry is West Virginia.

  • Well There is only one Harpers Ferry and yes it is i WV

  • God Bless Doc and Rosalee.

  • West .. by God .. Virginia!!! Almost Heaven. Like these voices.

  • As a looooong time Alison fan and even though I grew up on Led Zep, I was pretty upset with her venture with Plant - But this is a pretty darn good stuff. Maybe it will introduce folks to Alison's incredible musical soul - she IS music. Plant's voice is OK but to me it's like a buzz saw next to a Stradivarius. In his interview, its clear he knows just how lucky he is. If you want to hear the depths of her voice check out "Oh, Atlanta" and "Heaven's Bright shore" here.

  • It took this pairing for me to check out Alisons other work and discover what an amazing talent she is. "Maybe" is awesome.....If I had to pick a color for her, it's white. Very pure voice. As a Plant fan, his voice is a rainbow of color. There is so much charactor to his voice. For pure emotion, listen to his version of "Song to the Siren" There is a vast differences in their voices and styles, but contrast is interesting....has a certain romance.

  • @AmieMcA Love Song to the Siren. He did that and If I were a Carpenter so great!

  • There is a reason this album won album of the year. It will go down in history as one of the best albums ever. I am a rock and roller and want to see Plant reunite with Zeppelin, but for now, he too is on a journey. When the journey is over he will rock with the best, Jimmy Page & John Paul Jones.

  • Doc Watson is thankful they covered his tune.

  • Great track. Beautiful harmony. Lovely accompaniment.

    Greetings to one and all from Colin in Jarrahdale, Western Australia.

  • This song reminds me of listening to the folk music that came out in the 1940's. Like you hear on O Brother, Where Art Thou?.

  • good

  • This is the best lamantation I have EVER heard. period.

  • This song was played at my friends funeral and it has haunted me ever since. Beautiful...

  • so sorry about your friend

  • This song is simply beautful!!!! it kinda makes me sad tho!!! But it is beautful

  • Wondrous harmony and a beautiful love song.

  • Christian? That is funny. Americans use to be Christians so what gives...? Anyway, I think cowboy, folksy, "traditional culture", community and "true" when I hear this song. Also art... :) btw, Have you heard what people are boasting, I mean, singing... these days??

  • i like this song but cant help feeling its very christian

  • the song is about harmony. just listen to the sweet music.

  • beautiful - lovely song , lovely pics - thanks for post

  • The harmony is beautiful. The photos are nice too. Thanks.

  • This is gorgeous - sending them the long way.

  • evgencheto, thanks so much. you've done a great job. these beautiful images most certainly compliment a beautiful song.

  • Beautiful, and you chose some lovely pictures to go with it. I'm 70, still listen to stones, beatles, ray charles, etc. Never heard of this woman and don't like country music. Now I can't wait to get my grandson to put this on my ipod for me!

  • if anybody else sang this you wouldnt even listen. plant is high profile

  • They harmonize so good together, this song is very soothing, and peaceful

    Congratulations Allison and Robert a job well done.

  • Congratulations Alison and Robert on your FIVE Grammys last night!!!

  • thanks for sharing this very beautiful song!

  • this reminds me of my old cat, margo. when ever i played this song on my guitar around her, she stayed around.

  • NICE!  enough said!

  • Miss Krauss has the voice of angel and the music is superb

  • i dont like country, but you couldnt have taken better pictures and chose such a beautiful song to go with them.

  • I love it and I'm favouriting it.

    quote:

    w7mjr : I played this song at my dog Heidi's memorial right before she was cremated. The first time I played the song was the night before she died. We were both lying in bed together, and it was the last music we heard before she died the next morning.

    ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
    ^ ^ ^ Oh, god this was beautiful.
  • This recalls my late wife to me most strongly
  • I first heard this version the day after my beloved Grandma passed away. What a flood of emotion! I missed her so much but was happy too - Robert and Alison convey that emotion so well.
  • I know exactly what you mean. I can't listen to this song without my eyes welling up a bit. I flash back to my Dad's face when my Mom died, and of my feelings when my Dad died just a year later. This song is just such a beautiful, sad yet optimistic send-off to a loved one.
  • I agree that this song is beautiful. They have a lovely harmony. I love Led Zeppelin, Robert Plant, Folk music and I think Alison Krauss has a pretty voice.
    However, this song was written by Doc Watson and Rosa Lee Watson.I'd put that in the description if i were you. :)
  • well, i am a die-hard zeppelin fan with a taste for folk music, but i don't get much out of this duet. it must just be the way their voices blend or something. it is pretty good stuff, i can tell, but its just not for me
  • same here, my wife loves krauss and I love zeppelin but it doesn't mix
  • shit.. this is what zep was all about. new territories-leaving old standards by the wayside. new directions. does anyone get why robert has chosen this path. he is doing more service to zep than pagey or jonesy.
    I could go on but, my god zep thrived on evolving and to go back and do the same shat is pointless..
  • I totally agree...love em both but its like oil and mountain spring water...pages open tuning acoustic would have been a better fit than plants mumbling behind her beautiful voice.
  • that was an auto harp. if you watch some auto harp vids youll see. but i thought it was a banjo at first. but good guess
  • I played this song at my dog Heidi's memorial right before she was cremated. The first time I played the song was the night before she died. We were both lying in bed together, and it was the last music we heard before she died the next morning.
  • that is too bad. i hope ur dog deceased peacfully.
  • wtf
  • sigh..
    you have to be deep to understand it.
    just...go with it.
    pretend like clearchannel hasnt commendered the radio waves and there's actually
    diverse music on the radio. however, i think the grammy people listen to cirrus
  • I just had to have my poodle Brandy put to sleep a few weeks ago, she was 14, I miss her so much and I know she is iin heaven with my Mom. I will make that long journey someday and will see them both . Beautiful song
  • that's a rly sad story.
  • nice song, nice production with the photos, but why darkness for half of the video?
  • Thank you for posting this. Beautiful track. Will be buying the CD soon.
  • The most beautiful song ,from the most beautiful album I have ever bought.
    Listen carefully for the gentle whistling backing the opening lines,who is that?
  • I am from the Harpers Ferry area. Doc Watson and his wife wrote this song. Saw the tour last night and the show was incredible. DOnt miss it if you have a chance. Plant and Krauss harmonies are beautiful. Also spellbinding when allison sings down to the river.
  • 5*
    One of my fav's from Raising Sand!
    WONDERFUL pic's!
    Blessings from Moi.
  • Please think of my wonderful friend, whose long journey ended Sunday, June 29, 2008..It is more than ironic, that Allison and Robert Plant would be together for this beautiful, and many more tunes, that are so appropriate to Melvin Theodore Plastino. 03/17/60 -06/29/08
  • my favorite song on the album too! Where abouts were the beautiful pictures taken? Thanks so much for this I really enjoyed it.
  • one of your pictures has my birthday from two years ago, that was a pretty good day for me.
  • Great song and nice pairing it with the Harpers Ferry photos. Good job.
  • fabulous harmony between two legends in different music fields. great version of this song.
  • This song makes me want to cry too,so I just try and picture Kermit the frog on banjo and that seems to help,Truely the best song they have done and thanks for the vid
  • My fav song from the album! I want this played when I pass. Just beautiful.
  • Yes I saw your video and it is beautiful! =) Isnt the CD fantastic?
    J>
  • check out all the kings horses equally beautiful
  • is this another song they did? i dont remember this on that CD.
    and thanks!
  • No it is a solo project song from Robert Plant and the New Sensation (his last CD).
  • *strange sensation
  • I lost my love to heart failure three years ago. This song brings her back. It makes me cry.
  • Crying is what makes us who we are ,sorry for your lost
  • To evgencheto.  Thank you.
  • What a beautiful song...and sung so beautifully...It's an older song, but this version is just lovely. The video is lovely too.
