Wow this is cool. I never saw a dual record player unit before. Thanks for uploading. (I'd love to know some fix-it guys, but I think we're pretty far away being in Wisconsin).
Soooo this is what was around in 1952. My Great Aunt told me her stereo console was bought in 1951 right after her and my great uncle married. She remembers it as being one of the first things they bought, but of course she was way off. After doing some research, I found that her stereo was made in 1959. It is an RCA Orthophonic SHC 4. It says Stereo right on the tuner so it must be in stereo. But it is nice to see what was out there in 1952
Rich, how stunning. What cartridge is in the 45 player? This really is a deluxe model with the two changers and the pilot lamp and such. Gorgeous cabinet. What a wonderful find!!! RCA Victor really did use some unusual cartridges in the day. That piece of furnitue will look just awesome with an antique lamp and some nic-nacs on top! :-D
You truly were the "Belle of the Ball" if you could afford a console like that! That console and Leroy Anderson go well together! Which record was that? I didn't recognize the label.
@CineramaPete It was a Decca gold label Leroy Anderson Conducts his own compositions Volume 2 and a worn out spare with no cover I use when working on a record changer.
Man is that massive!!! I want a console really bad, but as you know...space can be an issue with these beauties! The turntables are so fantastic!! I adore the storage space for 45s! You don't see that very often. Really great sound too!! Where are you going to put it??
What a BEAUTY! GREAT sound! What a unique piece! How amazing to have 2 SEPERATE turntables! What a gem! The sound quality is amazing! Record storage in the lower doors too!! Awesome score!
That is beautiful! I've never seen one designed quite like that with the speaker at the bottom. That is awesome how it has 2 record players! Everything a hip person of the 1950s could need.
Very nice console! It must have been very expensive when new. It sounds wonderful. You did a great demonstration. Thanks for sharing. nice to hear WCBS on the radio. I'm originally from B'port CT and used to listen to CBS and WINS very often. I can pick up WCBS down here in GA. Heard Fran Schneido (sp?) is still on the air when I picked it up!
What a great set. You are very lucky to find a set like this. With the earlier RCA 45 changer, I wonder if this set was actually from '49 possibly '50. By '52 most changers would have been three-speed. Now that it's restored you'll have many years of enjoyment from this set.
This is really quite a nice unit Rich. I bought one at a flea market for $5 but it had a RP-168 player and only a 78 RCA player not 33/78. No room for it so I broke it up and dumped the case which needed refinishing badly anyhow. Mine, like yours, sounded absolutely spectacular! Hard to believe they can sound as good as they do. Bring back tubes!!
Very cool rig!
