Marvelous. But what an odd cadence he has when reciting his 'Ave'.  A rather strange chant.

Actually I could detect in his cadence the typical roman accent! Pope Leo was born near Rome, and he shares the typical "romanesca" cadence, that you can still today hear among the people of Rome. Considering that Pope Leo was borno 199 years ago, it's amezing that in 2 centuries nothing has changed, at least from the point of view of the Italian people's accents. And yes, he's old and tired, but He's so Majestic in his chanting!

I used to have an old record of Catholic hymns featuring, at the end, a recording of Pius XII reciting the Pater Noster. His voice and cadence were, in contrast, very robust and rather more imperial in tenor. I imagine one could find it on YouTube were one to search for it.

They were just rumours - but given that HH PJPII referenced them when speaking of the Leonine prayers, I believe the rumours had some credence. Check out the Wikipedia article on the "Prayer to Saint Michael". Despite the Wiki-source, it's a fairly well done article on the subject.

Pope Leo XIII did write the Prayer to St Michael, the Archangel, but its a lot longer than the one most people have seen. His original speaks of the usurpation of the See of Peter. Sound like the Twilight Zone but then theres Vatican 2 and....hmmmm.

Thank you... Exists a video of Pius X in the Vatican Gardens, but it's very short (5 seconds). The "Habemus Papam" of Benedict XV does not exist, and there is a short video of Pius IX's election.

Le Pape s'est mis devant l'appareil d' enregistrement (une espèce d' entonnoir) et a parlé directement à la machine. C'est très différent d' un enregistrement "live" à la distance, impossible en 1902.
