This station and its reporter(s) need to do a little more research before airing this story. It is not a tax, it is a check-off program. This is bad. They are making it out like this was implemented by the President when it's actually to benefit the Christmas tree industry. These people asked for it! Government won't see a dime. Oil companies get billions in subsidies and people let that slide. Then choke on .15 cents? Can't people see how easily theyre being manipulated?

The INDUSTRY (the majority of grower organizations and such) who sells the trees ASKED the USDA to come up with a Program similar to the "Got Milk" promotion. Sales of REAL, LIVE Christmas trees are declining, and the INDUSTRY wanted the program.
The USDA allowed it, but were smart enough to tell the Industry they must PAY for the effort (you know we don't want Pay-as-you-Go legislation for stuff like that since we don't have money to splurge) in the form 15 cents per tree sold.
Once the Obama administration learned the industry could possibly pass this fee on to it's customers, they suspended the program.
@PlatinumProductionzz, USDA didn't tell the industry they must pay for the program, the industry planned to pay for the Christmas tree checkoff from the start, just as several other commodity producers pay for their own checkoff programs.
Obama mandated December 25 as, CHRISTMAS. Don't say "Happy Holliday's" to me again, say "Merry Christmas". If it takes 15 cents per tree to be able to call it Christmas, I am glad to pay it.
@katiatomsk Why do you object to receiving good wishes for happiness on New Year's Day? The reason "Holidays" is plural is because there are more than one. New Year's is the Feast of the Circumcision of Christ. Evergreen trees have no relevance to Christ -- they are a pagan tradition celebrating the Winter Solstice. Are you a pagan?
