This grout could almost be twice as wet...makes it much easier to fill your grooves and you don't want the grout drying too fast....some guys lightly wet spay after it just sets up..a fine mist will do. ...really depends upon heat ,humidity etc.
Another thing these don't show....it does take a lot of elbow work to get rid of the grout haze....have to make sure the sponge is clean,clean,clean every time you wipe .
He has a 85% chance of NO problems, but I don't like any call backs! lol

I mix my grout a bit thinner than this, I find the consistency of cake frosting about right. It fills the joints better :) Also I couldnt help but wonder why the toilet was already installed?
first of all, you want the grout consistency similar to that of toothpaste.
secondly, weather the sealer you use is water or solvent based doesn't matter much. The base is simply the transportation vehicle for the sealant. Solvent based sealers dry faster because solvent evaporates faster than water.

grout must be mixed with a drill to get correct consestensency it must be left in the bucket for a 10 minutes if you dont put enough water your grout will crack and look sandy if youover water the grout you will get grout efflorecens thanks
I give this guy credit for trying, but I gotta agree with some of the others in saying there were several things he did wrong. If you're gonna use this as a guide, you'll need to add more water to the grout. Also, after grouting wait about 30 mins and do your first wipe (with the sponge, wipe, flip, wipe, rinse). Then after about 2 hrs, do your second wipe (with clean water of course). Times may vary slightly, so remember to read the instructions on the bag/box of grout you buy.

This is the way to do it if you want to kill yourself grouting and with clean up. Also, grout has a mixture ratio. By how dry his grout was, he was not even close to how grout should be mixed. Uhm, who also only cleans with one sponge??
Heres a tip for those people who can't get the haze off the tile after they grouted the floor. Just go to a local tile store or distributor and ask them for some sulfamic acid. It's used to clean tile, just put some gloves on and mix a bucket of water with some acid and clean the floor with a sponge. Trust me that floor will look real nice!
Dont use this acid on tiles as it may actually do permanant damage to glaze. What you should use in this day & age is a high PH commercial strength cleaner. If this acid is not totally removed the vapours may rust brass handles & other fittings.Also it re activates when water is added next time you clean. Another thing is that the manufactures warrantee is now gone once you have incorrectly acid washed. Some full bodied commercail slip resistant tiles need acid cleaning at a ratio of 10/1.
I work for a tile guy and I am pretty good at grouting, your grout was too dry, it's better to make it a little wet so it gets in the joint easier and and the joints also get really full of grout then let it set for about 25 minutes and then sponge it.
Wow this is BS. grout too dry, apply to joints only not to center of tile = less sponging. also you make a pass about 1-2 feet with the sponge, flip it, another pass next to it, then rinse sponge. The way he shows will take hours to clean up.
Id say it took you hours to grout that floor. Im a tiler and i would have mixed it wet but not to wet and id have that floor grouted and washed in 10 mins. Best ive grouted in 1 day within 8 hours was 120sq/yds so i know what im talking about.

yeah the grout was too thick. and using that plastic taping knife is not right. use a margin trowel if you don't have an electric drill with a paddle.
so you need them or not? If you grout 40 ft its not that bad but when you grout like 400-600 ft a day, you definetly need them, otherwise your hands will get dry and crack!

There's a good idea...grouting with caustic cement based grout in bare feet. "honey, why is the skin peeling off my feet? Did you change laundry soap again?"
You don't mention the critical issue of pre-sealing the tile before grouting. This is especially important if the tile has a rough surface. I did not know this and now I have a huge mess on my hands. Getting the haze off is nearly impossible. I've spent hours and hours scrubbing away but the haze always reappears.

That Grout was just to Dry, It will not pack well that dry and you should sponge of grout a few tiles at a time. Not do entire floor at once.

I work for a tile guy and I am pretty good at grouting, your grout was too dry, it's better to make it a little wet so it gets in the joint easier and and the joints also get really full of grout then let it set for about 25 minutes and then sponge it.

Wow this is BS. grout too dry, apply to joints only not to center of tile = less sponging. also you make a pass about 1-2 feet with the sponge, flip it, another pass next to it, then rinse sponge. The way he shows will take hours to clean up.

Id say it took you hours to grout that floor. Im a tiler and i would have mixed it wet but not to wet and id have that floor grouted and washed in 10 mins. Best ive grouted in 1 day within 8 hours was 120sq/yds so i know what im talking about.

yeah i agree with you, supposed to be like a whipped cream consistency, when you pull the mixing paddle out it should not slump back flat straight away in the bucket

Sorry for leaving that out. just use clean water, without any solution to wipe the floor down untill there is no residue on the floor.

Lol, no shoes, knee pads reminds me of something you'd see in india or thailand lol, at least he didn't use his bare hands to smear the grout in the joints that's one thing? a friend of mine was in thailand who is a tiler aswell and saw a bloke tiling a counter top and some walls and was putting the adhesive on and spreading it with his bare hands Lol mybe thats who he learnt from?

First of all the guy didn't mix the grout, you need a drill to do that(it's the 21st century)then when you put the grout on tile, it's suppose to go smoother, I mean his grout was like stones and pebbels on tile,he had to push it real hard to make it go in between the tiles.And when the grouting is done,the tile are suppose to look perfect,not like his,full of grout leftovers.I really should make a video about this and post it here.Plus, what's the toilet doing there? That goes in after grout.

yeah the grout was too thick. and using that plastic taping knife is not right. use a margin trowel if you don't have an electric drill with a paddle.

you dont need gloves, but when using darker color grouts it can stain your hands.

so you need them or not? If you grout 40 ft its not that bad but when you grout like 400-600 ft a day, you definetly need them, otherwise your hands will get dry and crack!

Come on...You seal tiles if they are pouous ( stone , marble etc). The grout was not mixed properly,it was far too stiff. He had no shoes on or gloves as the chemicals are abbrasive ( lime, cement etc). I have never seen grouting like this in all my life. Please use your local tiler...

I thought he made a huge mess with the grout. i've only done a few jobs working with tile and grout but just to make clean up easier, i took it way easier. i'm no pro, but common sense is common sense. btw, had it not been for ppl mentioning that his crack was visible, i wouldn't have noticed it! thanks ppl for pretty much killing that instructional video...

Btw, did anyone else think he made a lot of mess with the grout? Is that how you're meant to put it on? I don't like the thought of covering my tiles with that stuff, even when it's wet!

You don't mention the critical issue of pre-sealing the tile before grouting. This is especially important if the tile has a rough surface. I did not know this and now I have a huge mess on my hands. Getting the haze off is nearly impossible. I've spent hours and hours scrubbing away but the haze always reappears.
