Wow! I've never heard this one before. It's rare to hear a song so immediately likeable and well written. Very cool. I need his record in my collection.
@ejectorerector Yes. "Why Not Your Baby", "Lyin' Down the Middle" and "Don't be Cruel" have all been added to this album as bonus tracks, both on the latest release of Fantastic Expedition and also on the expanded two-in-one release of Fantastic Expedition and Through the Morning, Through the Night.
It's easy to see why the Eagles used Bernie Leadon for their lead vocal on this cover. I think his voice is actually kind of similar to Gene's. It's common on country rock videos for commenters to be tough on the Eagles, but I think both versions are great. However, Dillard and Clark should be much more popular than it is; I only discovered them on YouTube. "In The Plan" is a great song, my favorite of there's along with "Through the Morning Through the Night.".
me too - got hooked on D&C, the Dillards, and Gene Clark's solo stuff from this amazing record. consistently brilliant. this song especially lays me out.
@phildirt3 Maybe I shouldn't be commenting here, given that I haven't heard the Eagles version. But given their version of a Tom Waits song I heard(ole' 55) and their arrangements and sound, I think you are probably right. The Eagles tend to do things too slickly.
The world was wild and wicked back then too, but some of us could still stop long enough to smell the roses. Man, in retrospect they smelled nearly as amazing then as they do now. The good stuff always has excellent shelf life. That's what makes it good.
Howdy
this is reason the 60's and 70s had the best music
because the music was real
thanks for sharing this
stay cool

Glad that you enjoy this.

This album is still one of my favorites. I bought this album, The Fantastic Expedition of Dillard and Clark in 1971, and it still sounds great.
Thanks!
