I hope we don't build the pipeline, I hope we instead build the facilities to refine the oil here in Canada, pipeline it to our own ports in British Columbia, and sell it to whoever wants to buy it as a finished product. American's were offered a piece of the pie, you rejected it so be it. Canada should simply start looking out for its own interests and create all of the jobs and wealth that extraction, refinement, and sales of the product will create FOR CANADA. "US is the largest shipper of gas in the world" already. True. The pipeline builders plan on shipping the oil products out of US, so they can sell without paying taxes, and then keep the profits off-shore. Meanwhile, consumers buy imported products, and pay the taxes.

Of course, with the line of clowns the Republicans have, I doubt it would make a difference.
Imprison and fine them for blackmail and public endangerment. Nationalize the oil industry to the point that every American owns an equal share collecting a check at the end of every fiscal year. During the year, hold the profits in high interest accounts and use the interest towards our national debt! Millions of people will be effected, if their precious pipeline destroys the largest water aquifer in the world. They don't give a crap, look at how BP got away with screwing us in the gulf!

Good video with good information. One detail, the intention of pumping to Texas isn't only the export angle, but tar sands oil is so dirty the only refineries equipped to refine it are in Texas.
We should be building the ugraders here, near the oil sands and sell the value added products to the highest bidder, rather than the lowest - our current American customers.
Obama should declare a national emergency and nationalize the oil industry. See how Jack Gerard feels when all his buddies tag him for screwing things up for them.
... Earth to progressives (and Obama)... and if the president okays the Keystone Pipeline, Big Oil will spend billions to defeat him and try to destroy liberalism and the social safety net anyway. So, Mr. President, what do you have to lose? Screw Big Oil!
The extension of the pipeline referred to as Keystone XL is for the purpose of sending this extremely-crude crude to refineries that can make it useful for EXPORT OVERSEAS and will be no help to US energy security via continental supplies. Fuggedabout it!
There already exists significant unused pipeline capacity from Canada to the US. There is absolutely NO justifiable requirement for this additional pipeline capacity. Aside from the fact that the Tar Sands it's intended to serve are, arguably one of the dirtiest sources of energy in the world which actually burns up more energy than it gives. This is a loser plan all around subsidized by taxpayers for the sole purpose of guaranteeing profit.
And, how do they get the money to build a multibilliion dollar campaign against the President? Anyone think any CEO's are giving up a dime? We will pay for the campaign whether we agree with it or not. They just add how ever much they need to the price of gas.
What are the chances Obama won't cave to the oil interests? I think almost zero. He is basically a Republican; I'm not sure why so many Republicans don't like him.
Stop the pipe line unless Canada and the oil company's agrees to full restitution on all future damages and triple monetary restitution to anyone injured in future accidents and this should be decided by local people not Washington because they have the oil company's interest at heart not Americans just look at BP and the Gulf spill the oil still is on the bottom of the gulf and not cleaned up.
We don't need fossil fuels AT ALL. Biodiesel, ethanol, solar, wind, hydrogen, magnet motors, tesla technology, and more can easily replace ALL fossil fuels.
@moatwog yeah, it wont be easy, but you have to start somewhere. so much propaganda working in the opposing direction. i think you are right, i think fossil fuels are obsolete. but the oil industries pour so much money into covering up new technologies, or altering public perception, it sucks
@moatwog From a production standpoint, bio-diesel is inefficient to produce considering the energy cost compared to yield. Ethanol doesn't work well with food economies. Solar power requires the production of solar cells, the most efficient of which are toxic to produce. Hydrogen is unstable and inefficient. Magnet motors are hokum from a thermodynamics perspective- they don't work. Still, you're right- the world needs to work its way off of nonrenewable combustibles.
@moatwog You are a nutjob. Biodiesel caused food prices to skyrocket 2 years ago, leading to riots in Pakistan. Ethanol- same thing. Solar works in sunny places, but even environmentalists have complained about building it in sensitive areas. Hydrogen- not there yet, Wind is intermittent at best. The others are nice science projects for now. Use up the oil then it's not an issue. Then we'll HAVE to use all the other stuff.
@moatwog Take ethanol off the list, and I agree completely! (ethanol requires petrochemical based herbicides, pesticides, and fertilizers to grow, not to mention the refining process). Ethanol is a money funneling sham instituted by Monsanto.
@toryboy69 I am not a blind follower of ayn rand. Objectivism simply defined is the is simply to adhere to objective reality and to not have beliefs. I either know something or don't. I disagree with ayn on some things but not that central idea of objective reality. But perhaps you like mysticism and fantasy over reality. Be glad I dont judge you merely by your name.
More proof is the history of export before peak oil played out. Same thing; America was pumping light crude like mad; it's how the oil companies made their money. Talk to normal people that live down in Texas and ask them how often a refinery or company fucks something up as well; it's not infrequently. What's more, look at Nigeria and other places America has gotten its oil and destroyed. They couldn't not fuck up the midwest even if they knew how not to. Refine it up north or FUCK OFF.
I cant stand Thom Hartman! Even though i am Liberal, Hartman is last person that needs to be giving Obama advice. I have never met a Liberal that is more Anti-Obama than Hartman.
So if I say your president is making decisions that will have political ramifications, I am threatening him. Unless I'm with the Nobel Peace Prize team?
Since when is an opinion a threat? What if we agree with his observation/opinion??? Does that makes us some kind of tyrants? Throwing on a pair of jeans and "spewing a spin" does not make you well informed, cool OR right!
@mistermassive1 The better question is who am I definitely not voting for, and that would be anyone with an (R) by their name. Like Ol' Ronnie Paul. Other than that I'm voting for Nuniya and the reason is Nuniya as in "yo biznizz". I'm starting to think that this Ron Paul Youtube comment activism is akin to the douchebags who are paid advocates, in imbedded in the crowd at political speeches going, "Yeah! he's right!" I may be wrong about that but anyway, Fuck Ron Paul.
"Do what's right Mr. President"???? Like signing the NDAA and soon to sign SOPA and PIPA??.. Give me a f'ing break... This president is just bad news, just like the last one.
I wasn't going to vote for Obama this time around whether he approved the pipline or not. But I will now if he turns this pipeline down! Screw these Oil Barrons, who the fuck do they think they are! Ahhhhhhhh!!!!
i am no fan of oil barons or obama, but you just twisted words like a total dumbass. It was not a threat it was an observation, an opinion. God, why can't people just be FUCKING ACCURATE. Everyone has to have a goddamn spin. I read the headline thinking some real shit was going down... but it was just hype.
@joshtheobjectivist the fact is none of us know exactly what he meant by his statements. Could be interpreted as a threat, however, claiming that it was a threat without a doubt, is dangerous and wrong. I do believe Obama already knows what will happen if he doesnt listen to the oil barons, although. He will sign this pipeline into action, and spare his life/possible reelection.
@joshtheobjectivist I agree 100%! He needs to jump off his spin wagon and drag those rag tag jeans home. I am so sick of this type of "journalism" (if that is what it is called)
hell it cant be worse than the bp oil spill. that was waay underwather so it was hard to fix, but a pipline is just to plug and clean the land around. not even near as bad. getting frikkin mad
well wtf why is it even Obama's decision... shouldn't it also be Canada's decision? What happened to the thousands of Canadians protesting this stupid pipeline v=UhrNhrmSCbk
I want a fucking direct democracy where i can vote on this issue... we've never rly had a real democracy in history they just work really slow and they're trying to get everything finished quickly now... lets occupy the whole world
@youutube88 The founders didn't dig the idea of direct democracy. They thought it to be impracticable. Too much like mob rule. So we must settle for the direct election of House members only. Gee, looked how that's worked out.
Ok.. so the question is, will he just spread those cheeks and bend over for them? Perhaps do it, but make a statement that he has reservations about it?
@mistermassive1 I'm voting for either the American Nazi party or the American Communist party, I disagree with most everything they stand for. They are both detrimental to the country, but, any change is welcome in my book...who cares anymore? Do you see how stupid that is?
You know, I can't help but notice... if you mute this guy and read the quote without the emphasis he gives it... it sounds nothing like a threat... Granted, the oil guy is still being a greedy jackass, but the spin isn't helping anyone.
consequences- a result or effect of an action or condition. saying consequences, is not a threat. i'll fuck you up homeboy is a threat. people dig too deep. that said, the new XL pipeline sounds like a bad idea in every aspect. these white collar, white haired, old white dudes have no interest in our future, just themselves and their paychecks. fuck humans.
It would be amusing if President Obama offered a deal: guarantee that not one drop of the fuel from the pipeline gets exported, and the Army Corp of Engineers will build it FOR you.
The consequences of breaking the deal being the pipeline is shut down and the executives of the oil companies go to jail.
I can just see them backpedaling now ! "No, no, we can't agree to THAT ! It would be bad for our shareholders !"
Sec I'll finish watching this video as soon as I'm done gassing up my car ... ok done, MAN IM ANGRY! *drives off and sits in a drive thru for 20 minutes*
let em pipe it to the coat of canada its not ours it doesnt help us how about spending thesame amount to find the lost tesla papers last reported papers found talking about them was dated 1982 so they CANT SAY THEY WERE LOST IN THE EARLY FORTIES LIKE THEY SAY .
iM JUST SAYING PROJECT RAINBOW WAS IN 1942 A LASER WEOPON THEN ROSWELL IN 47 YEAH MAKES SENSE WE FRIED SOMETHINS ELECTRONICS AND STUDIED IT TO SO WAKE THE FUCK UP THERE ARE 3-4 FORCES THAT SCIENCE KNOWS ARE THERE
@mistermassive1 The problem with Democracy is that the Lobbyist (Corporations) have so much power that they will only allow you to vote for their endorsed candidates. Obama seemed good in the begining but they all say what you wanna hear for your vote. I'm pretty sure that if absolutely nobody votes, the media will still make it out that it is a close race and elect the Corporation puppet that sign legislations they need in order to increase profits! I hope Ron is the real deal!
I wonder if this pipeline will be run straight through the pine ridge indian res. in SD; if it is, these oil barons should have to pay the indians millions and first should have to get the indians ok for this pipeline=geesh--these elite sickos are not gonna be satisfied till they destroy what is left of our world
is this like the bank bailout, we better do what the big business wants or else, is the US government that weak or are they in the pockets of our government to the point of no return? we need to be more like China, what happens to a business man that causes injury to their people
i will say that as an "oil baby" - i disagree with both the pipeline and fracking. there are safe and responsible ways to extract oil and gas. the people at the top are already making insane profit and reducing regulation to make even more profit they dont need at the risk of the rest of us. this is coming from someone who is not only involved in the oil business but someon'e who's family has been involved in the oil business for 4 generations.
only way to stop these people is for us all to understand our situation and "unthink" their ways.We all have the tools to keep our lives as they are we just have to understand what we do is worth much more than money. WE are society not them. Our society is comprised of so much more than money. "The LOVE of money is the root of all evil." Love thy neighbor as thyself. WE have everything we need to continue our lives without the overlords. Find the truth and you need no ruler.
@KeirGazelle and @sdh483 yes I have read the bill and the only one that has been taken for a ride here is you...the only provision that prevents us from being arrested is the part were it says during the Obama administration...so what happens when Romney gets the house....nothing to stop him or any other retard in office.
@reasesrch1982 WTF? BP? Gulf of Mexico? Where are you from and what huge rock are you hiding under? You probably should do some actual RESEARCH post 1982
Soon you will see the vultures eating and biting at each other. There will be a mistake that opens the eyes of the blind. The light in the sky will burn the demons and mark them for what they are.
You will see the world begin to fight back as the monsters retreat into a corner. That is when their Evil master will show his face. There is the vision, a gift to you from me.
I don't see what the big deal is? If anyone has a record of safety and respect for the environment, it is the oil companies. Can anyone even name a huge spill in the last five years? gees, Thom you hippy. What is next, investing in our educational system? yikes.
Yeah, the goddamn spice must FLOW, motherfucker. If not, I'm sure the Oil Barons can find a young Maud 'Dib out there out there somewhere to take any president who doesn't suck the Oil Cock down a notch...
Thom you being a History buff, would know we all have two capacities in law physical and Corporate and since the Government of this country is a Corporation by ending the Corporate personhood we would loose all the ability to control the government. And to the rest of the Na Sayers this is a proven fact once our government incorporated in 1872 the only way could to be a part of it is to become corporations to witch puts us when dealing with the Gov. under UCC Law not common law or civil law.
@k3v1n47 Instead of the president and congress let's start with the kock brothers and oil barons. That way these "elected reps" can see what is coming.
@callouschristian I didn't mean the guillotine for our elected representatives, That would be stupid. We can vote those fuckers out. I'm talking about the unelected bastards who think of themselves as royalty (economic royalists in FDR's terms) They screwed up the economy suppress innovation, exploit people at home and overseas. We, in the industrialized world are the only people who can stop them....if we try. I wouldn't want to guillotine the bastards either. I'm against the death penalty.
Thom, Thom, Thom, get your facts straight. The so-called "tar sands" (oil-saturated sand actually) is no more or less "toxic" than oil produced in Texas or Nebraska. The environmental concern regarding Alberta synthectic crude is the huge amount of natural gas that is required to make steam to extract the stuff. This increases Canada's CO2 emissions by a large factor. Some of your other points re: the economics of "big oil" are valid, but PLEASE knock off the "dirty oil" rhetoric.
@bobbytookalook Tar sands take 3 barrels of water to process every barrel of oil extracted. Ninety percent of this water becomes so toxic that it must be stored in tailing ponds. Unfortunately these ponds regularly leach pollution into the third largest watershed in the world.
That and Canada doesn't have its own air, air Pollution travels. It's dirty. Thom is absolutely right in his assessment.
However, there is another argument in favor of the pipeline Increasing exports will decrease our negative balance of trade. That will have a positive effect on the US economy if WE all benefit from the increased tax revenue.
The deal that should be considered is to OK the pipeline in return for removal of all oil related tax breaks.
WOW! This poor fucker doesn't understand that Jesus was a Jew. Not only that, a far-left left Jew. Cognitive dissonance thy name is ClaimAmerica4Christ.
@DannyEmbry They want to run some of the most toxic shit ON EARTH over our largest strategic freshwater reserve. That is THE most ignorant thing anyone could ever want to do.
I hope we don't build the pipeline, I hope we instead build the facilities to refine the oil here in Canada, pipeline it to our own ports in British Columbia, and sell it to whoever wants to buy it as a finished product. American's were offered a piece of the pie, you rejected it so be it. ... Earth to progressives (and Obama)... and if the president okays the Keystone Pipeline, Big Oil will spend billions to defeat him and try to destroy liberalism and the social safety net anyway. So, Mr. President, what do you have to lose? Screw Big Oil!
SludgeMcPoople 1 month ago 7
The extension of the pipeline referred to as Keystone XL is for the purpose of sending this extremely-crude crude to refineries that can make it useful for EXPORT OVERSEAS and will be no help to US energy security via continental supplies. Fuggedabout it!
risasb 1 month ago 4

4144DLee 1 month ago 2
What are the chances Obama won't cave to the oil interests? I think almost zero. He is basically a Republican; I'm not sure why so many Republicans don't like him.
burningbeing 1 month ago
Stop the pipe line unless Canada and the oil company's agrees to full restitution on all future damages and triple monetary restitution to anyone injured in future accidents and this should be decided by local people not Washington because they have the oil company's interest at heart not Americans just look at BP and the Gulf spill the oil still is on the bottom of the gulf and not cleaned up.

We don't need fossil fuels AT ALL. Biodiesel, ethanol, solar, wind, hydrogen, magnet motors, tesla technology, and more can easily replace ALL fossil fuels.
moatwog 1 month ago 59
@moatwog yeah, it wont be easy, but you have to start somewhere. so much propaganda working in the opposing direction. i think you are right, i think fossil fuels are obsolete. but the oil industries pour so much money into covering up new technologies, or altering public perception, it sucks
37sikora 1 month ago 2
@moatwog From a production standpoint, bio-diesel is inefficient to produce considering the energy cost compared to yield. Ethanol doesn't work well with food economies. Solar power requires the production of solar cells, the most efficient of which are toxic to produce. Hydrogen is unstable and inefficient. Magnet motors are hokum from a thermodynamics perspective- they don't work. Still, you're right- the world needs to work its way off of nonrenewable combustibles.

fonkymaster 1 month ago
@moatwog You are a nutjob. Biodiesel caused food prices to skyrocket 2 years ago, leading to riots in Pakistan. Ethanol- same thing. Solar works in sunny places, but even environmentalists have complained about building it in sensitive areas. Hydrogen- not there yet, Wind is intermittent at best. The others are nice science projects for now. Use up the oil then it's not an issue. Then we'll HAVE to use all the other stuff.

@hrhkatrina1 That's because they chose Corn Ethanol! The worst possible choice! Hemp Biofuels, perfect choice!

This pipeline is designed to export oil from the USA.
The largest export from the USA in 2011 was refined oil, gasoline, diesel, lubricants.
More than machinery or any other product.
This pipeline is designed to get all that oil stranded in alberta thats gluttin gup th ecentral USA out.
When its built Gasoline prices will rise 20 cents a gallon in the USA because all that oil will be able to flow easily to markets outsuide the USA.
READ that again.
You export oil

k3v1n47 1 month ago 3
Thom, Thom, Thom, get your facts straight. The so-called "tar sands" (oil-saturated sand actually) is no more or less "toxic" than oil produced in Texas or Nebraska. The environmental concern regarding Alberta synthectic crude is the huge amount of natural gas that is required to make steam to extract the stuff. This increases Canada's CO2 emissions by a large factor. Some of your other points re: the economics of "big oil" are valid, but PLEASE knock off the "dirty oil" rhetoric.
bobbytookalook 1 month ago
@bobbytookalook it's nothing new either. the sands have been mined since 1967.
DarthSchwartz 1 month ago
@bobbytookalook Tar sands take 3 barrels of water to process every barrel of oil extracted. Ninety percent of this water becomes so toxic that it must be stored in tailing ponds. Unfortunately these ponds regularly leach pollution into the third largest watershed in the world.
That and Canada doesn't have its own air, air Pollution travels. It's dirty. Thom is absolutely right in his assessment.
k3v1n47 1 month ago
@bobbytookalook I agree with all of your points.
However, there is another argument in favor of the pipeline Increasing exports will decrease our negative balance of trade. That will have a positive effect on the US economy if WE all benefit from the increased tax revenue.
The deal that should be considered is to OK the pipeline in return for removal of all oil related tax breaks.
Doubt that the GOP would ever agree to a deal.
