I see a lovely, well behaved little girl .... yet when I close my eyes I hear the voice of a magnificent, fully developed opera singer. Such a disconnect!! But a beautiful one.
@ABQFatCat Jackie has spoken of wanting to help the seals since the beginning, long before this campaign video. She spoke about it in an interview during America's Got Talent, in the interview with WPXI after the Macy's Parade in Pittsburgh, at the National Tree Lighting Ceremony in Wash DC in Dec 2010 and so on. She has had stuffed seal toys for years (she calls them her seal dollies) and she sleeps with one even to this day, even when she travels. As she has said, she is a truthful girl.
Beautiful voice, beautiful little girl - I worry that she will be infected with all the crap that adults want to put into her - I have trouble believing that she "always has loved seals" - that sounds like some tripe that some studio exec insisted that she say, to help with the fundraising efforts. Can't we just enjoy her voice without having to see her sucked into the commercialization vortex?

I am now 63 and I still love them, especially our endangered Hawaiian Monk Seals of which there are only about 1000-1100 remaining. Why wouldn't a little girl love animals? And want to help those to whom humans are so cruel? If I had her talent I would be singing to try to save the many animals I love, too. Didn't you ever love any animals as a kid? Or even as an adult? If not, you have missed much. :(
@stramayne It's more their "traditional" ways than dependence. But it is their methods that most people object to -- needless cruelty and suffering of the animals. Not at all unlike the CAFOs (Concentrated Animal Feeding Operations) in the US and elsewhere, which are ungodly cruel and inhumane .... and the way most humans get their "meat". Or how about the fur folks who say they have to skin the animals alive because it is "better for the fur"? Anyway, I obviously applaud Jackie's efforts.

There's something about Jackie in this video that I can't quite identify. A joy. An intensity. A pleasure. Something that I've never seen in any of her videos. I think it must have something to do with singing for a truly worthy cause. @MrKasey361 Well said, including (especially) the part of "no amount of words". I will add "Gift from God". This genius talent in such a wonderful young person is not mere coincidence. Jackie herself knows it and exclaims it (she has stated she says a prayer before each performance and asks God to accompany her); we may as well accept it and see much hope in it. It should not be lost on us either, that Nella Fantasia is all about hope for a better world, and the best song she sings. My thoughts.
