I have just gotten back into chess and very much enjoy playing the French Defense Advance, as black. You do a really nice job of explaining the subtleties of that position. I enjoyed it very much.
Good video. what do you think of rybka? i use chessmaster to analyze most of my games. I think it blunders quite alot for example i played a game against Josh 1600. And the computor blundered quite a lot, maybe you could have a look at my game and see what you think. This game was a centre counter, I have been pushing my pawn to e5 recently and gaining good ground. I wonder do you use chessmaster or do you know how to highlight squares or wheteher you can. Well let me know. Thanks crusher
Computers are not able to make a risky moves. Moves that are necessary to provide for winning chances. (Hoping for your oppenent to make a mistake). Sometimes the Position is so complex even a computer cannot calculate all the variations.
Im not 100% sure this is true, for eg. 4 a computor to drop its rating from 2600 to 1600 it must make some adjustments to its thinking lines. If you watch my video BEATING CHESS COMPUTORS i play chessmaster 10th Josh Waitskin age 8, The comp plays some terrible moves. specially the knight sac + king side pawn play near the end.
It poses a good question what makes a 2600 player better than a 1600 player. Fewer mistakes/ blunders (short range and long range) can a computor really make a successful long range blunder on purpose? Any thoughts please let me know???
A really aesthetic game. I've recently been playing a lot of blitz on the ICC and I find that playing blitz is very useful when it comes to developing your opening repertoire, because you're able to experiment a lot more with openings and your opponents will do the same. I bring this up, because I've started playing the French and got some good results with it. I like the fact that 1...e6 looks unassuming, but can lead to surprisingly dynamic positions, often with both sides foregoing castling!
The french is such a tough defense. I usually just do the exchange variation. But I should look into the Nimzowitsch variation. And the french some more. I have never seen such a high level game when the player with 2 queens resigns.
great game! I like the French Defense, but it takes a long time to castle kingside. It can be dangerous if you dont know what your doing.
