  • Best version of Jane Eyre 2011 version so disappointing

  • Not platonic indeed!

  • I LOOOOOOOOOOOOOVE this! always come back to watch it. Mr Rochester is so handsome! agree its the best version of jane eyre. She played is so well. So beautiful and touching. Love it. We all need a man like mr rochester!

  • @san28sana ... ME TOO, this is my favorite version closely followed by the Ciaran Hinds/Samantha Morton's version.. I do so love Jane Austen, what an insightful author she was.. I am now going to re-read my Jane Eyre once again .. *sighs*

Best regards and wishes from Wales .. :0)x

  • @wenglishsal What am I like ... Fancy putting Jane Austen instead of Charlotte Bronte.. What a numpty.. In my own defense I shall say that I adore BOTH Authors, and brilliance has muddled my brain.. *sighs* .. :0)x

  • "Am i hideous, Jane?" "Very, sir... you always were, you know?" XD Trolling level: Jane Eyre

  • I love this Jane Eyre version so much...

  • this part was so funny and cute it made me laugh and its the only one i saw that has the real ending with the baby

  • She teases him mercilessly! and I love that Scottish deerhound (Pilot). (I hate to say it, but I agree with whoever said the last scene was embarrassingly bad. Mr. Rochester appears to have lost his marbles.) And that coming from a huge Toby Stephens fan.

  • She's having the best time teasing him and the hardest time not laughing when he gets jealous! LOL I think it's so cute, how jealous and upset he gets. He loves her so much.

  • I adore fine acting and Toby Keith is acting royalty. I mean being the son of the great Maggie Smith says something.

  • What do you love the most in this story? I love the fact that she is discovering love now, feeling love and jealousy, kissing for the first time in her life, while he is an experient man, enough to be sexy like he is. He had been in love before, Celine, Bertha, but it is with Jane that he feels the burning true love and it remains even though far from her. At last, both are equal in love although they have different ages! I've always searched for a story like this one! Glad it's been done!

  • You HEIRESS!!!

  • Favorite Jane Eyre movie!!!!

  • That was payback for the whole Blanche Ingram thing.

  • "we're not the platonic sort, jane." no, no you are not. i see that hand mr. rochester

  • Ah I love it! Such a great story/ movie! Deffs on one of my favorite classics

  • Wow this SUCH and AWESOME movie!!!!!!!! Eeeeek!!! I love it! Wilson and Stephens are amazing actors.... This is going to be among my top 5 favorite period dramas now....

  • I don't know why, but the smile of Rochester from around 8:55 makes me cry, though it's the beautiful ending...

  • I love how in the corner of the portrait there was a picture of St. John. It's quite sad because in the book he was dying by the end.

  • Can someone please suggest more of these BBC mini series, I have already seen Jane Eyre and North and South. And I m so in love with them.

  • @royaljatti Tenant of Wildfell Hall, Toby is also in that.

  • @gemdoran thank you!! :)

  • @royaljatti Little Dorrit, Sense and Sensibility, Northanger Abbey, Emma, Our Mutual Friend, Bleak House, Persuasion, Under the Greenwood tree, Wives and Daughters, Pride and Prejudice (1995), Victoria and Albert......... just to name a few :) I think that is about a third of my list which is somewhere....

  • @musicallyspeakings88 thank you so much!! :)

  • Doesn't the way he is sitting kinda reminds you of a child that is a bit moody or something?

  • "He taught me languages."

    -Pause-

"Alright, why did he do that?"

"He wanted me to go with him to Africa."

"He wanted you to marry him?!"

"He asked me to marry him."

    (Childishly) "You're lying."

    I love it!!!

  • @livelongnprosper92 I love that when he says,"Alright, why did he do that?" He's such a natural actor. His Rochester is so different from all the others, and I love it.

  • @livelongnprosper92 that's one of the best parts in the book too

  • I am worse than you!!!!! I've watched" Jane Eyer" two times more than you. You can feel better now!!!!!!!!!

  • I accidentally ran across this movie today, and could not be happier! I had never heard of the movie until today, and so I have never seen any other version but I don't want to! I can't imagine another version with better actors and passion! Love this movie, and I love the happy ending. :)

  • Thanks very much!

  • I always thought that the painting of the young man in the left part of the portrait was Sinjin cuz he had left for Africa and was not there. Jane does not forget family.

  • Toby Stephens is so hot!! I wish I can find my Rochester as Jane did :)

  • @feifeimj You should watch Toby Stephens on CBeebies Bedtime Stories (youtube). My favorite: A New Home for Little Fox (aka Toby, haha). He's adorable and so talented.

  • @619acacia thanks :D! i will :)

  • Where's Adele?

  • @WOWZZZZZZZZAS she's there.

  • They forgot about Adele :/

  • @alisonwho They didn't she the girl in pale green at 8:41,

  • Oh, the happy tears I cried! When Mr. Rochester fell those tears my heart was overflowing with happiness. May all of us, patheric people, who re-watch this again and again get our own Rochesters one day.

  • andrew buchan - i love you, and toby too :D

  • "Jane, is there only ladies in the house where you are?" - he is jealous haha

  • Where is Rochester of my life????

  • Also personally I like both the movie and the novel. The novel is the best, I wish I would forget every time I read it so that I could go back and read it again and experience the anxiety and heart-bursting emotions. It was so pleasing. The movie, well, I know it didn't follow everything. Movies rarely do. But then again, movies are an interpretation of how one sees something. I rather enjoyed it.

  • i thought he lost a hand after the fire

  • Can you believe I repeated this video part like 10 or more times?! I absolutely love this Jane Eyre the best. Mr. Rochester fits. I'll watch the other films just to make sure. But for now and with superior joy, I love this the best. And for the record in the book, Mr. Rochester gets his sight back, but only in one eye. Sweet, touching, and by far moving with passion.

  • 7:59 ... I see where that hand is going Rochestie ...

  • I can't help but smile every time he asks if there were only ladies at the place she was staying with :)

  • Even though I really liked Michael Fassbender as Mr. Rochester, now that I've watched this one I'm totally in love with Toby Stephens!

  • There are versions older than the one with Timothy Dalton...

  • I thought he was supposed to have a squished out eyeball and look like vulcan!!! Not cool! These videos have all been too much like soap-operas! How dissapointing! Back to how I imagined it...

  • @katandann look for the oldest version, its the most accurate imo, but the acting on Jane's part is a little iffy lol. I think Rochester is the best in that one.. uhh, Timothy Dalton is the guy I think

  • this was great, but i wish that they show at the end of the movie that he recovered the sight of one eye.love the story<3

  • I watched the 2011 and the 1994 version of Jane Eyre...By far this is my favorite. Not rushed, and more passion.I knew and loved the characters more than I did in the others.Best ending too. Some might find this strange coming from a 12 year old.

  • I watched a different version but this sending makes me so much more happy(:!!! I love this movie!!

  • THE MOST AMAZING ENDING! TOBY STEPHENS is the best rochester and ruth wilson the best jane! oh GOD! LUV IT SO MUCH!

  • uhhhh that Toby, such a plain name for such a great actor and so good looking too

  • beautiful and mezmerising! love it!

  • It's so sweet when they twist their legs together and Rochester moves his hand down to her butt. XD I LOVE this movie, the best of all Jane Eyre movies ever made. :)) It touched me, and was SOOOOOOOOO much better than 2011 version. :)

  • I wish they would show him regain his sight purely for the sake of having him be able to look at her the way he used to :)

  • Way to go with the wandering hands at 7:59!!!

  • i love how she messes with him XD

  • beautifull!!!!!!!!! thank you for uploading i started this movie at like 9pm i think and now its 4amXD

  • Oh, I read somewhere in the comments that it is St John. Seems to make sense ;-). Thanks!

  • Okay, I take back what I said about 2011 being the best JE version. I do think I should watch the 2011 version again to be sure, but I do think this version touched me most :). One thing I was wondering about though: when the frame comes up in the end, there is this face on top of the left (in the frame) whose face is it? Does anyone know?

  • @Lotjeknorrepotje It is none of importance. I saw that too, and I looked it up. I think it's supposed to be a painting of a younger Rochester. But it doesn't really matter. I hope thia helps. :)

  • I like to believe if Jane and Rochester had a daughter they'd call her Helen

  • Great story. I hate the fact that he went blind. :((

  • Lol, I love when he gets mad at her towards the end... &shes just like "hehehehee, I'm totally fucking with you." Thats love right there.

  • God, I'm just crying. That ending scene is simply beautiful. The 2006 version is the best!

  • Well I have to say, I've seen the 1996 and 2011 versions...they're both pretty good but this one takes the cake..more detail and I really like this Rochester and Jane

  • Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens = Best Actors!!!!

  • Toby Stephens is such a phenomenal actor! I think he played Mr. Rochester to perfection and he does a stellar job pretending to be blind

  • damn... i can't stop watching this.....

  • I tell u what Kimmywibi I have so much studying to do (in nursing) but every chance I get I watch it I love this show and of course Mr Toby Stephens. I think I have watched it over 100 times

  • Someone help I've watched this thing like 20 times and I keep going back and repeating the scenes with Jane and Rochester. I have work to do...papers due....HELP ME!!!!!

  • @Kimmywibi me too lol

  • @Kimmywibi same here! LOL

  • @Kimmywibi I knowwwww!

  • @Kimmywibi there is no cure! I know!

  • @Kimmywibi Aghh I'm doing the same thing!!!

  • @Kimmywibi Same here :)

  • toby stephen is sooooo hot adorable and cute!!!! love this version

  • I could just keep watching this!!! (':

  • The 2011 ending is awful, I hate it. Just "I'm back!" "Yay!" hug, the end. Too quick, in my opinion. This one is WONDERFUL!!

  • Best Jane Eyre and Mr Rochester EVER!!!

  • How can I get the soundtrack that's playing during 0:00-0:57, I love it. :(

  • God I love Jane Eyre

  • Ruth Wilson and Toby Stephens are by far the best Jane Eyre and Mr. Rochester I have ever seen. The chemistry between them throughout the entire series... it was wonderful, just WONDERFUL. My hat's off to Ruth, Toby and the person who casted them.

  • wow, amazing, very inspiring, thank you bbc. ive never seen the other versions but i can say and feel its the best. i learn a lot. all the casts of characters are perfect. very artistic and real.

  • There are SO amny adaptations that have been made. the first one I saw was an early 90's one, then the old black and white one, then an 80's one and now this one. And although I am looking forward to the 2011 one, I still say this is the best one I've seen by far as it sticks closest to the book and even the dialogue :3

  • I love when he says "You're lying!" Its so cute when he gets jealous.

  • At last!

I have finally seen the new movie, but... It had some really glimmering scenes but it is so obvious that Fukunaga thought of Cinderella. I did not stop thinking of Cinderella until Jane's quarrel with StJohn. I did not forget it until she stood in the burned house.

I never thought of Cinderella when I read the book or saw any other adaption and I think it is a great mistake.

If anything, JE is an interpretation of The Beauty and the Beast.

Or The Rebel and the Roué ;-)

    2006 wins!

  • i agree with clemarochies and phooeyonyouey. this version is my favorite out of all of them. i love the music, the acting, and the story. the best classic probably. :) i love how they showed the great chemistry between them! and when they kiss... love it! 4.8 out of 5 stars. :D

  • ahh the ending is sooo satisfying... *sigh* :)

  • I like both the 2011 and 2006 versions equally. 2011 had Alice from Alice in Wonderland and the one guy in X-Men, First Class, Michael Fassbender and Mia Wasikowska.

  • I adore this version. My fave by far! The chemistry between these 2 is fantastic!

  • The way they have their feet tangled up there during the kiss is so stinking cute!

  • So beautiful ;)

  • sweet! wierd i cried for the 2011 version but not this??maybe cause this is a much more happier ending

  • Well…. I cried

  • Awwwww, Jane Eyre has a family that loves her, including Rochester! :) Her first portrait she is finally accepted in.

  • Ah, the scenes when Rochester is slightly jealous of Jane talking about St.John is too funny. :) I believe Jane Eyre is my favorite character, and Elizabeth Bennet brought down to second.

  • Wait...how did Rochester get blind?

  • This is actually pretty romantic. A little on the sappy side, but romantic nonetheless. I can actually see why people like this version so much.

  • "Edward...! watch the hand..."

  • Did anyone else tear up when Jane and Rochester reunited?

    Such an amazing adaption.

  • Yes, Mr Rochester is my ideal. They can joke and tease one another and be mean and they don't insult one another. He's proud and stubborn and classy yet classless at the same time. Good looking or not, he's a 10/10 for me!

  • Aaaaaaand cold, ol' st. John up at the left hand corner...... Forever alone. Hah!

  • @Kamikazu08 in the book he died in india...

  • Jane : " well he is tall . with blue eyes . you can say he is more charming that you are .. " !! uuh jane are you kidding me no one can compare with this man you with !! :D:D

I Like this version and i like each part , it's charming how jane make Mr R jealous .it's magical how they do love each other .. i wish i could find love like this .. that's why i love Jane the most from all the books i read !

  • haha i love how jane is now making HIM jealous :)

  • / 2006 version!

  • How can you not love this book!

  • "Well, Sir, it WAS a brothel so it was mostly ladies. I guess you would call us ladies although others called us other things. But, yes Sir, there were men. But they didn't stay Sir, so don't worry! Good night." ha That would have gotten his attention. / I like her firmness/honesty. She's not there out of pity and she, too, wants a man in her bed. She isn't going to allow his self-pity either. Self-pity distroys. No, her man is there, just wounded and the other bits aren't important. Songs

  • "Well, Sir, it was a brothel so it was mostly ladies. I guess you would call us ladies although others called us other things. But, yes Sir, there were men. But they didn't stay Sir. Good night." heh heh That would have gotten his attention. :) / I like her firmness with him. Her honestly. She's not there out of pity and she, too, wants a man in her bed. :) Songs

  • I think this is Toby Stephen's best acting of the entire series. Before the fire he fails to capture all of Rochester's hyperactive and over-bearing tendencies (as it is described in the book), but in this part he really embodies the depresson that Rochester is experiencing in the book and the joy of having Jane back in his life.

  • love the ending..just love it..

  • mr rochester looks like dr cox of scrubs O_O

  • Goldenivy17, thank you so very much for the upload!

  • why cant we get more shows like this on tv? such crap, we need more great quality shows ~

  • totally epic, awesome, all though the last scene was cringe worthy

  • this was epic lol

  • OMG I LOVED when Jane said "on less you prefer I go again" and Rochester quickly wrapped his arms around her so she doesn't leave, that was so cute

  • hahaha!! sneaky hand sliding down her back for a bum grab :P need to check out the new one.

  • Sooo much better ending than the 2011 one.

  • @nadinel22

Yes, better ending, but i have to say I love the 2011 movie better than this the rest. The book it to die for.

  • @nadinel22 You are completely right. The 2011 ending sucks.

  • oh the way he caresses her back...

  • i waited so long for the 2011 version till i finally could see it. and i can only say this: it was a good movie, but not at all like the 06 version. there is nothing that can compare to it. i love this version. nothing, ever, could be as good in my opinion.

  • Thumbs up for his husky sexy laugh at 1:20 :P

  • I love the chemistry in this one. I also love how she is portrayed.. not prude just has a strong character

  • Soooooo glad they didn't decide to stick to the book completely and maim him by sealing his eye shut and making him lose his hand... totally killed the other ones. I *cannot* wait to see the 2011 one

  • @TheAwkwardGiraffe96

To me it was a disappoinment. I am sure Toby Stephens would have been great even with a covered eye.

I believe Brontë would have been dissapointed too. She did not write a novel to flatter common standards. Quite the opposite actually. And here they have left out one of two provoking angles that still remains by today's standards.

It is the only real disappointment in this adaption. A maimed Rochester in the end would have been daring even today.

  • 1.19 that look he has on his face, he is afraid that she does think he is now really hideous...and then she makes him smile....

  • 0.8 the catch in his voice when he asks her to stay... who could not catch their breath and hold it.... I'll say it over and over this man can really act, you see his every emotion in his face. Best I have every seen this part portrayed.

  • "All right, why did he do that?" ... "Well then, I think you might take yourself off and go elsewhere!" My two favorite lines of this version :)

  • :)

  • I absolutely LOVE this version of Jane Eyre. I've seen 4 adaptations and never have I enjoyed Rochester as much as I have watching Toby Stephens.

What other Rochesters lack IMO, is lovability. TS makes you affectionately smile even when Rochester is angry and unpleasant (I found myself smiling even when he sneers). You actually *get* why Jane is drawn to him and end up loving him so completely, which isn't really conveyed in other movies.

Also the chemistry between the actors is fantastic.

  • Lovely!

  • I love the way they laugh when she calls him hideous. It reminds me of the way my husband and I lovingly make fun of each other.

  • Chek 7:57..how can Mr. Rochester have 2 hand? I though he lost one of them?

  • @FloristGumpORG His eye was also supposed to have been sealed shut by the fire but I guess the producers didn't want to ruin it by maiming him

  • I crack up at his facial reaction when he says "You're lying!" Hahahahaahahahaha

  • How dumb is it to ask a blind guy "Can you see me?" Duh no

  • @TheAwkwardGiraffe96 He hasn't completely lost his sight. He can see light, and things that are close to his face.

  • @canitalknow Thanks :)

  • @TheAwkwardGiraffe96 did you read the book???? If not I suggest you do, you will find you can read between the lines in the drama.... he was not completely blind, he could see shadows...

  • @ellenruddy Yeah I did, guess I forgot lol :)

  • I can't get enough of this beautiful movie the acting is so good and I love Toby and Ruth they are so great together. This is the best Jane Eyre I have seen. Hope to see more of Toby and Ruth together again

  • so sad, touching, and BEAUTIFUL!!! brings me to tears!!

  • Ok , not to diss the story or anything but here's my take on the whole house burning incident : He got mad coz Jane left him so suddenly, so he dismissed his servants (most of) and killed the b**ch who was the cause of all his grief. He then set fire to his house to make it look like an accident. CSI didn't exist back then to prove any different. He probably collected on the insurance payout too. Hehe.

  • What a lovely ending

  • Yeah I definitely just bought the movie

  • 3:51 your lying, made this up to torment me" LMFAO gets me every time.

  • so much better end than the 2011's version...

  • 'Jane were there only ladies in the house where you were?'

  • Awesome!!!!!!

  • Can't get enough from this- definitely TRUE :D
