id like thank all you Aussies for standing by our side, you even helped a great deal in Vietnam, i wish other countries had balls to fight with us like you guys do, respect from the USA
I am so proud of the amazing men fighting for our country, I makes me so proud, R.I.P to the amazing guys who died for our country, Everyone should be proud,I know i am! It is so sad to see all of them died for us though, So guys be proud, dont be like rude to them, Its amazing!!
It is our war I will have you know. If every planned terror attack had happened in Australia then we would have been attacked the most out of any western nation, so it is our war as they have plotted attacks against us. Also our allies are there so that means we are, and if we ever get in trouble they will come to our aid. And do not try to say that they will not as Australia is a country of vast strategic importance to the western world.
Get out of Afghanistan and Iraq you ass kissing American puppets! It's not your war! I hope more and more of your soldiers die! It's been almost 10 years and you stupid idiots think bin laden is still alive? Lmfao!!! You can't win this war! You've terrorized every home in Afghanistan and Iraq! This is just the begining! Revenge is in the hearts of every person in those countries you evade! You have created 1 billion bin ladens for yourselves! You can shove your democracy up your arses!
@miltonboo We're there because Al Qeada trained Jamah Islamiya who launched the attacks on Bali that killed 88 Australians, That's why. So fuck off and cry somewhere else.
@lunafringe10 Hums you have a very sketchy views on history friend. The commonwealth was founded and all it's components given the freedom to determine their own destiny. The reason Aussies remember the ANZACS of WW1 is because that was the first time, the Aussies under their own determination, and government sent troops to war. The Australian government, and land was given federation in 1901.
Hand over my heart and a salute of honor to all our servicemen and servicewomen. For they are the personification of courage and integrity. We honor the young and old, past, present and future diggers. We will remember forever...LEST WE FORGET
Must say this is amazing it gets played a lot at the weekends with my aunts they are totally awesome at it. I was lucky and downloaded the game perfectly free for my sony ps3 from here - 115 games . c o m there are literally hundreds best thing about it is they are all free too oh also 1:14 was outstanding
May be a bit off the topic but i am a cpl in regional cadets and i see people who wear our sacred Slouch hat like a fucking sun hat. I think it represents our army history and what it means to be australian and to wear it at the back of the head and not ironed. That is just disgusting
Total bollocks. Pound for pound, the Aussies are amongst the finest soldiers on the planet. Always have been, always will be-tough fighting soldiers & highly respected by British forces. You won't crack the Aussies fighting spirit-as Rommel found out during the seize of Tobruk. He referred to them as, "Big, tough fighting men." Give me an Aussie Battalion of infantry over a Brigade of Americans all day, everyday. Aussies are much finer soldiers as they proved in Nam-VC were afraid of them!
thanks for the inspriation and the compliment. I highly regard britain's armed forces and your one of the few forgeiners who have held us in high regard.
As an American I've never forgotten our gallant allies from down under. You guys are the best and if Australia had 300 million people like we do you would rule the world! God Bless you guys. My uncles told me how brave the Aussies were fighting the Japanese. I had 6 uncles serve in the Pacific and all who had contact with Aussies admired their toughness. God Bless!
wwoaahhh wtf this is a tribute posting , not a political or geo political or any other type of forum but the intended . so pleasae comment only upon the tube. thank you much appreciated. thanks boys and girls ill be back with you real soon. injur healing well
Heh, all these people saying they want to defend their country and stuff... They could be true but we all know deep down inside us we all want a bit of action. Well that's why im joining up next year :P
And through all this, I'm certainly not saying that American is the shining light of justice and reason... Nor Australia. But if you draw a line between the extremists on one side and what they say they fight for, and what the Coalition says they fight for, it's really not a hard choice for me to choose whose side I'm on.
P.S. You're talking to a soon to be uni graduate in international studies, proudly planning to join the Australian Army in June 2010.
Obzy - your opinion is that the wars we fought in WWI, vietnam, Korea, afganistan, Iraq 1 and Iraq 2 are just and necessary to protect the freedoms were enjoy at home? An honest question for you to contemplate
Oszy - meaningless debates??? I am asking what does this really mean?? What is the truth? You never question - just follow like a sheep?
PS what the Aust army has done??? This is exactly what I mean. Besides WW2 and even that is in some dispute about Japanese intentions, what is the evidence of defense in the initials ADF????????????????
Aussie - you take a moral stance on language but completelt ignore the morality of the actions taken by ADF and her allies in recent wars. Like I said if you want to join go right ahead and fight for your corporate masters. It will be anything but defending this country.
PS last week Legacy Aust were at collecting donations for ex military personnel. Just another example how the govt values you and are completely forgotton about once you are not NEEDED and become a financial burden.
The ADF has been active in peace keeping efforts and disaster relief far more often that conflict in recent decades. Samoa, Timor, Victoria Bushfires, Tsunami, Somalia, numerous others. At the moment in Afghanistan and Iraq, we're fighting against Islamic Extremists who wish to return the glory of the Isalmic Caliphate, and wish to see the end of your way of life (catch phrase or not, it's true).
406 - I put it to you - not one afgani or iraqi has threatened this country or its biggest ally US. Did you take the time to event consider Osama's letter - "Why we dont attack Sweden?" Do the people of Iraq and afganistan have a right under international law to resist your occupation?
You want to go into International Law? We invaded Afghanistan, as the target is (was) a non-state actor - al Qaeda - and was being harboured and protected by a regime - Taliban. That action was approved and almost unanimously supported by all the nations in the UN, and resolutions approving the Coalition's removal of the Taliban from power in Afghanistan as a supporter of terrorism.
Iraq - I'll concede, the motivation and rationalisation for the invasion of Iraq was more than misleading, --->
but at the same time, what happened in 2003 should've been done in mid 90s. If you look at the invasion as the extension of the '91 conflict as opposed to a fresh conflict.... '91 again had UN support, including for the removal of Saddam. In the 12 years since, diplomacy didn't work, sanctions didn't work and horribly afflicted the civilians of Iraq, and by everyone's understanding INCLUDING SADDAM HIMSELF, he had chemical and biological weapons which he had already used on the kurds.
406 - the international community knew that the US and its allies were lying when they said Iraq had WMD and was a threat to the world in 2002/3 and its was proved right. Dont you think its hypocritical of the US labeling Saddam as a bady after (NOT BEFORE) he invaded Kuwait when the US itself invaded Panama shortly before?
Whether the International Community knew or not is highly debated. They certainly weren't sold on the idea, and therefor the second UN resolution attempt was knocked back, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest that world leaders fully believed Saddam had WMDs and was prepared to use them.
And of course it's hypocritical. I've spent three years studying latin america (and middle east), what they did through the 70s and 80s to sth american countries is dispicable. Not to mention the shah.
406 - I think signs saying no blood for oil, bush is a terrorist and a war criminal, and the US is a WMD summaries the community's understanding of the situation.
You think the US foreign policy in Sth America was inconsistent with the middle east? Should we speak again in another three years after you complete your studies of the M. East?
No need. Thanks. I'm more than capable of having studied two areas of study over the course of my degree.
I think the policies of latin america in the 70s are VASTLY different from the wars of the Afghanistan and Iraq. Other than covert operations vs all out war, there's a relatiatory aspect to afghanistan at least, and saddam was a monster who should've been removed from power decades ago.
The Latin American countries did nothing other than support near-socialism as a political system.
And those protests are a horrible example to use for your argument if you're hoping to remain int he realm of the realities of the international system.
The majority of those protestors were protesting simply because they disagree with war, PERIOD. They'd be protesting no matter who the target or the reasoning was.
The US has received very little to NO petrol dollars as a result of either of their actions, so that theory is entirely bunk. And as I said, saddam himself claimed to have WMDs.
The oil was inevitably going to happen. You take the flagship of capitalism and liberalised trade, give it the chance to build a nation, and there's not going to be alot of socialism and closed markets going around.
As for the embassy, the troops, the mercenaries... IT'S A BLOODY WARZONE!!! I disagree with the way war has been turned into a profitable privatised market, but that's not what you're arguing here is it?
he war was geopolitical in nature, You know it, I know it and the vast majority of community knows it. The threat posed by Peak Oil, the rise of China and challenge to its hegemony within the region was what this war was all about.
As the protestors signs read - it was a war of imperialism
what sort of psuedo-academic crap is that? of course it was geopolitical in nature. All wars are geopolitical in nature in one way or another.
As I said to a friend earlier tonight, no country is going to go in, sacrifice their troops, and their money, on a war entirely based of selfless morals. There are always going to be spoils for the victor. Always has, always will be.
406 - great i am glad that we agree the war was all geopolitial in nature. We can agree that it was never about those other stated claims particularly WMDs. We agree the war was based on a lie.
Threat posed by Peak Oil??? This has nothing to do with direct supply of oil to US. The US get less than 10% of their oil supplies from the middle east as a region. Let alone these two countries. The middle east could shut down and the US would keep ticking just fine.
And you display your ignorance on such matters when you talk of legacy. Legacy is a charitable organisation set up to care for the widows and dependants of feceased soldiers. Not the soldiers themselves.
you just havent got a clue. you will be trained to be a cold blooded killer - nothing mor enothing less. And you will be used to the detriment of your well-being. Just like the soldiers at Gallipoli. Died for nothing. A fucking waste of life. The working class fighting a ruling class war. That's sad.
Aussie - you run away whe the heat is on. if you want to die for the rupoert Murdochs of this world - please go ahead. Anyone who thinks that invading and attacking another counry that presents ZERO risk to my country and has never shown any aggresion towards deserves all the horrors that war brings.
Aussie - so the answer is you cannot name me a just war of the last 50 years.
And you want to join the army to defend this country? You defy logic !!! BTW - where did you get the idea that Vietnam turned communist because of France. are you saying communism = corruption while capitalism = democracy? You really do have a lot to learn about the real world.
Aussie - what are you doing - redecorating your bedroom. Is my question so difficult that you cant respond or is it that you dont want to as it reveal hidden truths.
"Because I am willing to sacrifice my life for this nation. I want to help others and do my part for my country. I want to keep my country safe. I want to do the best I can to help others."
You have totally avoided the question. i ask you again - would you fight and give your life for imperialism?
Liawam - BTW we arent talking about aussie casualties - we are talking about the number of Vietnamese slaughtered because of US/Australian aggression. The figure is more like 3 million and then there are all the children born with abnormalities through agent orange. Thats a lot of misery on a people that NEVER EVER threatened the sovereignty of the USA and Aust. Think about that.
Aussie - I would like to know where you got these figures from? What do they mean to you, as a fellow human being and a "moral" person?
you answers appear to me to be the same reactionary response that the warmongers spit out. WWI was all about empires - one big trade war. Would you die for imperialist war?
aussiespirit- thanks for the response. sure - help others, but why do I need to join the ADF to do this? in fact i see joining the ADF as being the opposite. Case in point - can you name me one just war in the last 50 years the west has fought? Considering the sensless kiiling in ww1, how do you see the people's movement that defeated 2 referendums for conscription thus saving thousand and thousands from death to a worthless cause. heroes?
im 16 . and im nearly finshed the all the in terviewing them im in when i turn 17. cant wait .. i want to get deployed straight away so i can help the boys in afghanistan straight away.
just wonderin, im in the aussie reesrves as a light cav scout and thinkin of joinin the armoured corp full time as a tank crewman, or full time rifle man, are diggers only referred to the rifle men ? or aussie soldiers in general ?
dont worry he will be safe more people died on the roads on the weekend than all of those who have died for australia in the whole war but i was in afghanistan for some years with the diggers and have only recently returned and i am deeply saddened by the loss of my friend david pearce who died there with me and my platoon along side him prayfor his safe return and everyone pray for the soldiers who risk themselves for our freedom
ofcourse he will, Australia's higher command looks after the army, they wouldnt put them in senseless danger... but so what if he is injured? i understand your love for him but a true soldier will do anything for the protection and loyalty of the Australian Flag
im not 18 but when i am im joining the army and thank you all 4 keeping me safe and thank you to every other cuounty who help keep me safe i will repay the favor and keep ypu safe when im older
hey man u don't have to be 18 to join u can apply at 16 and 6 months and if ur successful u'll be in uniform when ya 17, if ya thinking about it go for it best job ever, try finish ya year 10 at least but, they say only year 9 but they they'll wanna see u hold a job for a while if u drop out of school early
don't worry some yanks actually know history beyond American history. i know what your Aussie fathers did. there were just as many heroes from Australia as from any other allied country!
Nah, Pop wasn't conscripted. He grew up in Leadville. His younger bro joined and his Mum convinced him to join to look after Bob. They were stationed at Bouganville and while on patrol my Pop saw his brother killed by a booby trap.
I remember as a kid staying at Nan & Pops house was the best fun, untill Pop went to sleep. He would always cry or yell in his sleep.
I fully support the Aussie troops, I hope they get the support they deserve when they get home. I'll be saluting on ANZAC day.
they're still jumping til 2011 or 2012, i've just aplied for a transfer there, so u'll get to jump for a few years atleast, can always try out for 4RAR plus u never know, they might make 3 a para regiment again if the need arises.
kachingwie2 you cannot join the sas you are selected by your superiours if they think you are mentaly and phisicly up to the challenge. being in the sas isnt easy, alot try out but not many get in.
no, anyone can try out, u are not selected by ur superriors to try out, u can be 19 and an engineer and try out as long as ur in the Navy, Army, Airforce, ur 19 years old, and ur a male.
The aussies might not have a large military, but goddamnit we sure know how to fight! Our SAS is said to be the best in the world next to the British SAS
Correction: We have one of the worst Special Forces in the world. 15 years ago our pass rate into the SAS was less than 5%. Now the SAS entry pass rate is at 37%. Before in the SAS if you failed a tactical drill you were out immediatly. Now you have 2 chances, on the third you fail. The Australian Defence Force is in a sad state of affairs; However, we can combat this, join up, make a difference in the country you love.
How am I wrong there? Evidence to back up your opinion please. Go to the ADF site, you will find the statistics of pass rates into the SAS. But, even though I point this out I still have tremendous respect for the SAS. Parachuting out of the back of a plane at midnight and landing in tropical high seas, packed with sharks, 40 clicks out from the closest stretch of land.
ok, that was my bad, But our SAS are still 2nd to none. In iraq i think it was, there was an airfield that the delta force said would be impossible to take out, and a small team of SAS did the job. So while rates into it my be higher, They are still the toughest cunts ever
Correct. I have a mate in The Regt & he holds the Aussie SAS in very high regard. Hardly surprising though, the Aussies are superb soldiers, professional, well trained, good standards of fitness, great fighting spirit= Tough Bastards! :) Respect to Oz from Britain!
I don't like this clip, I find it using people like my pop and our past heroes to popularise this war. My pop was a good man but he suffered till he died. I support our troops, I will love and support each and every one of them no matter what, but this isn't our war. What do we have to gain but the love of America and a bit of oil? This isn't sport. It isn't about who kicks who's arse. Lives are at stake.
mate its a life decision to join the armed forces and something which alot of us hold highly. many people do for different causes but we share the common end result of fighting to preserve the quality of life which is so high in Australia. Fully aware we are that at times it may come down to fighting. if u dont support the war at least support the troops and leave a positive comment, this clip is inspiring.
ulike your pop im presuming. he was conscripted? presuming. i joined the adf knowing full well what could happen. and it did happen. i still to this day have no regrets. it is alot different fighting now then it was back in "the day" watching your mate get ripped to pieces by a wall of led wuld not be the best thing in the world to see..
this vid reminds me why i want to join the army i want to be the one person from my year leval at school to serve my country and to be proud to do it i hear all this shit about the army being this and that all i know is that the army and every one in it is the one true hero in australia it will always be there and it will always fight for the people in this country no mater what they say
i am in the Australian Army we are trained as the finest soliders in the world and our mateship is amazing i think i might have to show thid to the boys in the 13 field engineering squadren they would really apprecitate this all those great Aussie Diggers out there Good luck
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
"Advance Australia Fair" is just a ripoff of "The Maple Leaf Forever" (which is actually a much better song than "O Canada"...we should have just kept TMLF and changed the lyrics to remove British/royal crap).
Australia my favorite army. If the americans were fighting they coudve won but with a much HIGHER casualty much more woudve died if Australia werent there. I also salute New Zealand. Salutes to all the Allies and ANZACS from Darwin,Australia
I am not sure about that the Americans are hands down better than any 3 armies put together But i like u Australians U guys are a lot like the US !!!!
Easy mate! You sure that's not a little over-confident? Our blokes bailed US troops out at the Battle of St Quentin Canal. Even if it was only the once. The US army is certainly one of the biggest and beyond question the most well funded and active contemorary army in the world. Experience counts. The US of late has plenty of that. WW1 saw the US inexperienced and the Brits, Canadians, Aussies and Kiwis unbeatable. Amiens and Beersheba was where our blokes really shone.
The Australian defence force is one of the best in the world. Even basic infantry are picked from 1,000's of applications due to strict fitness and other various examinations. It's not a simple walk in.
We also have Duntroon. One of the best Officer training Colleges in the WORLD.
We are Australian, and anyone from Duntroon. especially from 1980 onwards i say: "WE ARE OO OO LONG TAN!"
you exadgerate a little when u said "even our basic infantry are picked from 1,000's of apllications due to strict fitness and other various examinations.
Most people who sign up, get in one way or another.
um the australian defence force (ADF) is the best non mercanary force in the world the only mercanary force that is better is the french foreign legen thats cause they only take the best and they have a super stricked training
in ww2 defence on singapore..the british army starting to retreat frm their defence position! only aus army who stay & fight d japs bloodiest battle of bt timah hill!...i salute d aus army!....
Retreat. They surrendered.100,000 surrended and 9,000 later died on the Burma Rail.the majority of defences were trained on the sea. That is where they thought the attack would come from.On February 8th, 23,000 Japanese soldiers attacked Singapore and the city was truly compromised. The Japs were outnumbered and out gunned yet thet still surrended.costly decision.British choice, not ours.Hat's Off To All Our Australian Fighting Troops Worldwide. We are Proud Of You.
"Can You Hear Australia's Heroes Marching? is a national war memorial song and a tribute to the ANZAC spirit of mateship, courage, and sacrifice." - comment by the author of the song
I am a yank who moved to OZ to marry, my uncle gave me his blessing to go because he fought with the australian troops in ww2 and he said there was no other country who's men he would want watching his back in battle.
I was US and got a ride with a soldier and stopped to visit his uncle,in Buffalo NY 1974. The uncle was in the US Army in New Guinea in WW2.
When he found out I was an Australian he said
in front of his army serving nephew "in New Guinea we didn't even know how to use our weapons, the Aussies had to show us, and we would not dare enter the jungle, the Australians were sent in before us"
He may have belonged to one of the US militia groups,I don't know, but a remarkable thing to say all the same.
Great work, you should be so proude of yourself. I am in the military and have never seem a tridute to the Australian Soldier like that before. You deserve a medal yourself for the time and effort you must have put in to create it. CONGRATULATIONS
Thanks for the comment. It always great to hear from someone in the military. I created a modern day video for those that serve in the ADF today. Type in 'adf heroes' on youtube and I think it's the second one down. It's the heroes song covering all the services.
I really appreciated your comments. I didn't forget the Australian Air Force or Navy. They also have tributes on YouTube, like the Army. Thanks for rating the video. It's always great to hear how proud someone is of our military and the service of their loved ones.
I haven't served, but admire & respect those who have. They who have served, have the right to say as they wish, they have earned that right. Sadley their service and sacrifices, that protect our rights & safety equally allows & protects the dissrespectful and ungrateful remarks of a vocal minority.
Inspiring song thank you.. I will be heading to basic training in march and i hope i can uphold the traditions and honours of the Australian Defence Force, as the soldiers before me have.
The song has been used for commemorative purposes across Australia by schools, churches, choirs, bands, councils, retirement homes, military services, RSL branches and ANZAC tributes at NRL & AFL matches.
If you go to Google and type in 'australian war memorial song' and then click on the page with the same title, you will find comments regarding the song. They are just a few from many received over the past 7 years.
Anyone can make comments on this video about the song, but if you are considering making personal comments about me that are damaging, think twice before you publish them.
If you want a CD quality mp3 file of the song. Go to Google and type in 'australian war heroes song'. Click on the website and you find a link on the page to download it at no cost.
I only write songs that touch my heart. Grungle86 is not my neighbor and doesn't know my circumstances and yet he calls me 'a coward'. He is definitely wrong about that. You can go to revelation100 and my website and I am there for everyone to see.
Whats the value of mateship when your used as pawns for some-one elses dirty wars? Guess a good mate is handy when you both march down to see the shrink for PTSD counselling. Patriotism and Nationalism are tools to motivate normal young thinking people to put aside their personal morals and values, in order to participate in imoral and illegal war.....Iraq.
It's comments like yours that reminds me what Australians who served in Vietnam had to face. Many good Australian lives were ruined because they were abused and rejected upon returning home from Vietnam based on the same thinking you have. Fortunately, today in Australia, Australians who serve and are killed, return home as heroes.
Do you really know what your talking about? I don't think so my friend. Get some credibility before your start talking tripe. Besides which, we are all responsable for our own actions in life which includes our decision to serve. Mateship? yes, its awesome. But it's not something Australians have a monopoly on. Try "Ich Hat Einer Kameraden". Try worshiping mateship when you've lost the war and not in a position to glorify it like your doing.
You come from another country, I don't go to other countries videos honouring their war dead and say they 'put aside their personal morals and values'. I wouldn't even think of doing it. If you don't like what I am saying, stick to your own country's problems.
It is my countries problem!!!!! I'm probably your neighbour! And people like you probably don't realise that the worst critics of governments pushing unnecessary war on its young men, are those who have served and know full well the consequences. Normally it's arm chair warriors like you who push this patriotic crap down other peoples throats without considering the consequences. Your preaching to the wrong fellow fella!
How can you be my neighbor when you live in Azerbaijan. I don't preach to anyone fella. I am sick and tired of people like you who denigrate soldiers that serve and have served my country. I tell my fellow Australians, if our former enemies have enough respect not to denigrate our war dead, they shouldn't. But then again, you don't live in Aus
Australia..60,000 dead (from a population of, then 4 million) by wars end! Australia's finest.
Did we ever recover from such a sacrifice?!
God.....bless Australia, the "Great South land Of the Holy Spirit."

Heh, all these people saying they want to defend their country and stuff... They could be true but we all know deep down inside us we all want a bit of action. Well that's why im joining up next year :P
kantsang94 2 years ago
And through all this, I'm certainly not saying that American is the shining light of justice and reason... Nor Australia. But if you draw a line between the extremists on one side and what they say they fight for, and what the Coalition says they fight for, it's really not a hard choice for me to choose whose side I'm on.
P.S. You're talking to a soon to be uni graduate in international studies, proudly planning to join the Australian Army in June 2010.

obzy - when presented with some difficult questions, you run away. The awful truth must never be realised.
radoa1 2 years ago
Obzy - your opinion is that the wars we fought in WWI, vietnam, Korea, afganistan, Iraq 1 and Iraq 2 are just and necessary to protect the freedoms were enjoy at home? An honest question for you to contemplate
radoa1 2 years ago
Obzy - that's it???????????
radoa1 2 years ago
Oszy - meaningless debates??? I am asking what does this really mean?? What is the truth? You never question - just follow like a sheep?
PS what the Aust army has done??? This is exactly what I mean. Besides WW2 and even that is in some dispute about Japanese intentions, what is the evidence of defense in the initials ADF????????????????
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - you take a moral stance on language but completelt ignore the morality of the actions taken by ADF and her allies in recent wars. Like I said if you want to join go right ahead and fight for your corporate masters. It will be anything but defending this country.
PS last week Legacy Aust were at collecting donations for ex military personnel. Just another example how the govt values you and are completely forgotton about once you are not NEEDED and become a financial burden.
radoa1 2 years ago
The ADF has been active in peace keeping efforts and disaster relief far more often that conflict in recent decades. Samoa, Timor, Victoria Bushfires, Tsunami, Somalia, numerous others. At the moment in Afghanistan and Iraq, we're fighting against Islamic Extremists who wish to return the glory of the Isalmic Caliphate, and wish to see the end of your way of life (catch phrase or not, it's true).
40622088 2 years ago
406 - I put it to you - not one afgani or iraqi has threatened this country or its biggest ally US. Did you take the time to event consider Osama's letter - "Why we dont attack Sweden?" Do the people of Iraq and afganistan have a right under international law to resist your occupation?
radoa1 2 years ago
You want to go into International Law? We invaded Afghanistan, as the target is (was) a non-state actor - al Qaeda - and was being harboured and protected by a regime - Taliban. That action was approved and almost unanimously supported by all the nations in the UN, and resolutions approving the Coalition's removal of the Taliban from power in Afghanistan as a supporter of terrorism.
Iraq - I'll concede, the motivation and rationalisation for the invasion of Iraq was more than misleading, --->
40622088 2 years ago
but at the same time, what happened in 2003 should've been done in mid 90s.
40622088 2 years ago
406 - the international community knew that the US and its allies were lying when they said Iraq had WMD and was a threat to the world in 2002/3 and its was proved right. Dont you think its hypocritical of the US labeling Saddam as a bady after (NOT BEFORE) he invaded Kuwait when the US itself invaded Panama shortly before?
radoa1 2 years ago
Whether the International Community knew or not is highly debated. They certainly weren't sold on the idea, and therefor the second UN resolution attempt was knocked back, but there is plenty of evidence to suggest that world leaders fully believed Saddam had WMDs and was prepared to use them.
And of course it's hypocritical. I've spent three years studying latin america (and middle east), what they did through the 70s and 80s to sth american countries is dispicable. Not to mention the shah.
40622088 2 years ago
406 - I think signs saying no blood for oil, bush is a terrorist and a war criminal, and the US is a WMD summaries the community's understanding of the situation.
You think the US foreign policy in Sth America was inconsistent with the middle east? Should we speak again in another three years after you complete your studies of the M. East?
radoa1 2 years ago
No need.
40622088 2 years ago
And those protests are a horrible example to use for your argument if you're hoping to remain int he realm of the realities of the international system.
The majority of those protestors were protesting simply because they disagree with war, PERIOD. They'd be protesting no matter who the target or the reasoning was.
The US has received very little to NO petrol dollars as a result of either of their actions, so that theory is entirely bunk. And as I said, saddam himself claimed to have WMDs.
40622088 2 years ago
I see the iraqi oil is no longer nationalised. Period.
I see the US has built the biggest embassy in Iraq the world has ever seen. Period
I see that the US has over 100,000 troops stationed in Iraq and dont give the bullshit somatics about combat troops.
I see that the there are equally over 100, 000 mercenaries in Iraq bidding for the US govt and its corporate masters.
radoa1 2 years ago
The oil was inevitably going to happen. You take the flagship of capitalism and liberalised trade, give it the chance to build a nation, and there's not going to be alot of socialism and closed markets going around.
As for the embassy, the troops, the mercenaries... IT'S A BLOODY WARZONE!!! I disagree with the way war has been turned into a profitable privatised market, but that's not what you're arguing here is it?
40622088 2 years ago
it turned out that way because thats what it always about you moron. You keep refusing to accept it but its staring you in the face.
radoa1 2 years ago
he war was geopolitical in nature, You know it, I know it and the vast majority of community knows it. The threat posed by Peak Oil, the rise of China and challenge to its hegemony within the region was what this war was all about.
As the protestors signs read - it was a war of imperialism
radoa1 2 years ago
what sort of psuedo-academic crap is that? of course it was geopolitical in nature. All wars are geopolitical in nature in one way or another.
As I said to a friend earlier tonight, no country is going to go in, sacrifice their troops, and their money, on a war entirely based of selfless morals. There are always going to be spoils for the victor. Always has, always will be.
40622088 2 years ago
406 - great i am glad that we agree the war was all geopolitial in nature. We can agree that it was never about those other stated claims particularly WMDs. We agree the war was based on a lie.
radoa1 2 years ago
Threat posed by Peak Oil??? This has nothing to do with direct supply of oil to US. The US get less than 10% of their oil supplies from the middle east as a region. Let alone these two countries. The middle east could shut down and the US would keep ticking just fine.
40622088 2 years ago
So no problem with Middle Eastern country's signing significant oil trade deals with China? Are you that ignorant?
radoa1 2 years ago
And you display your ignorance on such matters when you talk of legacy. Legacy is a charitable organisation set up to care for the widows and dependants of feceased soldiers. Not the soldiers themselves.
40622088 2 years ago
you just havent got a clue. you will be trained to be a cold blooded killer - nothing mor enothing less. And you will be used to the detriment of your well-being. Just like the soldiers at Gallipoli. Died for nothing. A fucking waste of life. The working class fighting a ruling class war. That's sad.
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - you run away whe the heat is on. if you want to die for the rupoert Murdochs of this world - please go ahead. Anyone who thinks that invading and attacking another counry that presents ZERO risk to my country and has never shown any aggresion towards deserves all the horrors that war brings.
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - so the answer is you cannot name me a just war of the last 50 years.
And you want to join the army to defend this country? You defy logic !!! BTW - where did you get the idea that Vietnam turned communist because of France. are you saying communism = corruption while capitalism = democracy? You really do have a lot to learn about the real world.
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - what are you doing - redecorating your bedroom. Is my question so difficult that you cant respond or is it that you dont want to as it reveal hidden truths.
radoa1 2 years ago
aussie - read the posts properly. aust not like that? Really. I raised with you WWI to ponder and ask you to name me a just war of the last 50 years.
radoa1 2 years ago
Auusie
"Because I am willing to sacrifice my life for this nation. I want to help others and do my part for my country. I want to keep my country safe. I want to do the best I can to help others."
You have totally avoided the question. i ask you again - would you fight and give your life for imperialism?
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - so then war IS terrorism. Pass on and educate your fellow classmates.
radoa1 2 years ago
dude thats not right and Im Australian. if we lost that much in the veit war we ...would have pulled out.
LiwamGeebon 2 years ago
Liwam - you're playing with us arent you? You think we "cared" about the people whose country we invaded?
radoa1 2 years ago
Liawam - BTW we arent talking about aussie casualties - we are talking about the number of Vietnamese slaughtered because of US/Australian aggression. The figure is more like 3 million and then there are all the children born with abnormalities through agent orange. Thats a lot of misery on a people that NEVER EVER threatened the sovereignty of the USA and Aust. Think about that.
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - I would like to know where you got these figures from? What do they mean to you, as a fellow human being and a "moral" person?
you answers appear to me to be the same reactionary response that the warmongers spit out. WWI was all about empires - one big trade war. Would you die for imperialist war?
radoa1 2 years ago
OK - here's a couple of questions that you probably have never been asked or considered for whatever reason:
1. according to your logic if Nazi Germany was our ally back in WW2 we should have supported them?
2. what was ww1 all about?
3. how many afganistanis flew the planes into the twin towers?
4. has iraq, afganistan, vietnam, korea EVER threatened tom invade aust?
5. What was/is the civilian death count from the wars in: Vietnam, Iraq, Afganistan, Yugoslavia?
radoa1 2 years ago
Aussie - "The Military only goes to war when they feel that their country has been threatened for war"
could you please give me some examples?
radoa1 2 years ago
aussiespirit- thanks for the response. sure - help others, but why do I need to join the ADF to do this? in fact i see joining the ADF as being the opposite. Case in point - can you name me one just war in the last 50 years the west has fought? Considering the sensless kiiling in ww1, how do you see the people's movement that defeated 2 referendums for conscription thus saving thousand and thousands from death to a worthless cause. heroes?

Nah, Pop wasn't conscripted. He grew up in Leadville. His younger bro joined and his Mum convinced him to join to look after Bob. They were stationed at Bouganville and while on patrol my Pop saw his brother killed by a booby trap.
I remember as a kid staying at Nan & Pops house was the best fun, untill Pop went to sleep. He would always cry or yell in his sleep.
I fully support the Aussie troops, I hope they get the support they deserve when they get home. I'll be saluting on ANZAC day.

no, anyone can try out, u are not selected by ur superriors to try out, u can be 19 and an engineer and try out as long as ur in the Navy, Army, Airforce, ur 19 years old, and ur a male.
Renegade002 3 years ago
The aussies might not have a large military, but goddamnit we sure know how to fight! Our SAS is said to be the best in the world next to the British SAS
kachingwie2 3 years ago
Correction: We have one of the worst Special Forces in the world. 15 years ago our pass rate into the SAS was less than 5%. Now the SAS entry pass rate is at 37%. Before in the SAS if you failed a tactical drill you were out immediatly. Now you have 2 chances, on the third you fail. The Australian Defence Force is in a sad state of affairs; However, we can combat this, join up, make a difference in the country you love.
Oplunu2 3 years ago
I am joining up when i leave school, not the SAS, but the airforce doing engineering, so ye, i do wanna make a difference.
kachingwie2 3 years ago
you are wrong there
WLordnDRanch12 3 years ago
How am I wrong there? Evidence to back up your opinion please. Go to the ADF site, you will find the statistics of pass rates into the SAS. But, even though I point this out I still have tremendous respect for the SAS. Parachuting out of the back of a plane at midnight and landing in tropical high seas, packed with sharks, 40 clicks out from the closest stretch of land.
Oplunu2 3 years ago
ok, that was my bad, But our SAS are still 2nd to none. In iraq i think it was, there was an airfield that the delta force said would be impossible to take out, and a small team of SAS did the job. So while rates into it my be higher, They are still the toughest cunts ever

Lives are at stake.
verticalsmurf 3 years ago
mate its a life decision to join the armed forces and something which alot of us hold highly. many people do for different causes but we share the common end result of fighting to preserve the quality of life which is so high in Australia. Fully aware we are that at times it may come down to fighting. if u dont support the war at least support the troops and leave a positive comment, this clip is inspiring.
