  • If i had a dollar for every pixel in this video i'd have 1 dollar

  • Since Chris Berman was the first voice on here. He should have added his patent WOOOOOOPPP on this

  • poor fucking janne niinimaa

  • Every game in this finals series was so intense and that McCarty goal is one of my favorites of all time!!!

  • people don't know, but McCarty was a prolific goal scorer when he was with the Belleville Bulls

  • I remember watching that in real time...I was only 10 years old. AMAZING! I was spoiled in 97 and 98 and even 02. I've seen 4 Cups in 20 years. I'm lucky!

  • Best grinder/enforcer ever. He could hit and fight, but he also had enough skill to back up his game, and a very accurate shot. Don't believe me? Ask Patrick Roy.

  • omg everytime i see this goal it gives me the chills

  • That was a really epic goal... certainly the goal of McCarty's career, and would put the best goal of many other much higher scoring players' careers to shame as well!

  • whats the announcers name?

  • Gary Thorne was the announcer.

  • @PontiacG5GT08 and bill clement the co commentator.

  • holy fuk that was nice

  • I like the CBC's announcers better than anyone but Mickey Redmond (and that's just for homer reasons, I can admit that). The Canadians are far better than Thorned and Emrick. Though I do like how the American broadcasters get more excited.

  • ummmm ur definitely forgetting about the best announcer in the league. KEN DANIELS!!! why wouldn't u mention him if u claim to be a homer?

  • I like Ken Daniels fine, my man... but the Canadian announcers are just better than him. I love Micky, though.

  • Mickey is old school lol. i like ken because he is very smooth and never seems to have to regroup to think about what he is gonna say. he also never is talking about somethin right when a good scoring chance is about to happen. Ex: last night lebda ate a sandwhich and then (and at the same time franzen comes in and scores) and so daniels doesn't just continue that sentence. does that make sense? if it doesn't i could try to rephrase it

  • Ken spent some time in the mid 80's on HNIC. That is where he developed his style and understanding.

  • k? cool. i'm rather suprised u didn't leave a hate comment of some sort. that's the ONLY reason i responded to this, and i wont respond to the other 1.

  • 4-time Stanley cup champ!

  • Welcome back DMAC!!!

  • I LOVE THAT GOAL

  • I Love That Man.

  • God, Gary Thorne can ruin even great moments. Thank God this boob is off of the national telecasts now.

  • Are you kidding me? Gary Thorne is a great play-by-play hockey announcer......MUCH better than anything Versus has!

  • When I said national broadcasts I was referring to HNIC. Versus has decided to go with Doc Emeric and that is their choice. I'm just glad that they don't do a whole lot of games that I watch.

Thorne was brutal in the booth. He has a good feel in the baseball play-by-play chair but he really never understood the hockey chair. He tried to make up for his lack of understanding of the game with a big goal call. He came off as a typical loud mouthed American.

  • thorne is easily my favourite announcer!

  • And some people have no taste. I guess you love dining at MacDonald's too, heathen.

  • Gary Thorne was THE voice.

  • Ya... a big call with little content. That hardly makes him one of the greats. It places him in the crowd... utterly forgetable if not for his stints with Fox and ABC.

  • Referencing your comment earlier about how he had a better feel for baseball, hockey was, in fact, the first sport he announced (Univ. of Maine). Read his bio.

  • I guess he didn't learn much then. Thorne's voice will always resonate with some people because that is when they became fans or when their team finally won the big game. However, when I look at Thorne's body of work, I'm not influenced by that sentimentality. That is why my opinion of his talent is actually a fairer representation of his contribution to the game. Thorne did an ok job but he was hardly at the peak of his industry. He was average at best and his time at Maine is irrelevant.

  • I guess with your living in Canada, you're used to the CBC/TSN folks. I became a fan of hockey after seeing my first game in 1993 (aged 6 LA vs. Calgary), and would hear Thorne for the first time in '94 when the Rangers beat Vancouver. Listened to his voice right up until the lockout four years ago, and thought it was perfect for the NHL.

  • Canadian hockey fans often come off as snooty wine drinkers when it comes to the game and its nuances. We are indoctrinated on the game and therefore have a far stronger base of understanding than do fans of other nationalities. To Canadians, hockey is more than a niche sport and we demand more of those covering the games. Ultimately, it is that life-long internship that makes us better judges of what we see. In short, you should probably listen to the people who know.

  • WOW DOME, no matter what hockey video i'm watching u never cease to leave a retarded comment on it. this time u say "Ultimately, it is that life-long internship that makes us better judges of what we see. In short, you should probably listen to the people who know."

I'll give you the fact that hockey is more popular in canada than in the u.s. but to say that all canadiens in have a better knowledge of the game is pure bull shit. I love hockey and watch it all the time (hence me watching hockey

  • videos all the time and being a huge fan of the red wings. I'm an american and i love hockey and know more about it than most. u purposely leave stupid to get attention cuz u have NO FRIENDS and this is ur life. but i have gone thru this with u b4, so there is no use. ur a dumbass and u should go eat a big pile of steaming shit. i'm not gonna respond 2 u no matter what u say, so leave a comment if u want but it will go unread.

  • Gary Thorne was weak. This Mike Emrick guy is better than Thorne was and I don't really care for Emrick either.

The true voice of hockey is Bob Cole. And I'm not even Canadian. The voice of HNIC and playoff hockey for as long as i can remember.

  • Emrick is a satisfactory announcer, and he's been doing the job well for as long as I remember. Thorne--and Bob Miller, since I grew up in L.A.--had a great voice. As for Bob Cole...I couldn't tell you since I now live in the Cali desert and don't have CBC.

  • emrick's voice is annoying as fuck

  • you can buy the original ESPN broadcast of the Wings-Flyers Game 4 in Detroit on iTunes for 2 bucks...great quality too

  • My brother and I remember this goal very well. The other night I called him up and said: MCCARTY DRAW, MCCARTY IN, MCCARTY...SCOOOOOOOOOOOOORRRRRRREEEEE!!!! and he started laughing. GO WINGS!!!!

  • handles!

  • OMG! Who said Humans can't fly? Or is that skating? DANG!

    He was pretty FAST there.

  • McCarty is the greatest fighter with one of the greatest goals ever im so glad he's back in Detroit

  • he deserves a second chance.

  • its not the most skilled goal ive ever seen but its definately one of the most memorable goals of all time.

  • I can't wait till McCarty gets back! He definitely looks good, with a Hat Trick last night in Grand Rapids. I hope he gets back soon and plays with the Red Wings! Good Luck D-Mac!

  • D MAC! Wing forever!

  • Niinimaa should also be nominated......for being owned by McCarty.

  • Niinimaa dropped his jock and Darren dropped the goal.

  • ROFL, that Niinimaa will always be remembered for that ridiculous OWNAGE!!! And it will be like this:

    - Hey, who is Jannee Niinimaa?

    - The guys who got OWNED big time by Darren McCarty in the 1997 Stanley Cup Finals

    - Oh that guy!!!

    Gotta love D MAC

  • Oh and how? You moron

  • This was an amazing goal. He had a big part in Detroit's later legacy. Though he is more tied to that, like Brendan Shanahan I think, not to their future.

  • mccarty sucks no we dont want him back to the wings were good as we are.

  • Tripleplay first and foremost your comment makes no sense, learn English. Secondly McCarty is one of the best guys a franchise can ask for. Go around Detroit (I doubt you live anywhere near there) and see how many people love McCarty.

  • Nobody that thinks D MAC sux is a Red Wings fan...you gotta love him.

  • PLEAZ MCCARTY! COME BACK TO THE D!

  • to bad he isent playing for the red wings anymore=( you will always be in our haerts darren<3

  • move over lemuix?? haha, but mccarty is sweet

  • come back to detroit and jump start your career

  • WE MISS YOU MAC!!! We will never forget you for everything you did, this goal revenge on Claude Lemieux, the list goes on and on and on...

  • That was an awesome goal by the great Darren McCarty! I love him as a player, but miss him in HOCKEYTOWN!

  • Do it on LAN McCarty... do it on LAN.

  • Mac!~

  • That move only works in the playoffs. Flyers play well in regular season. haha.

  • What a goal!

  • Hell yeah Darren, we will always love you in Detroit!

  • Y'know, this is still one of my favourite goals of all time. Don Cherry called it a "how's-she-goin" and although that was one of the worst finals I've seen, Darren's goal is awesome.
