@enos218 yes bro !! good comment. i remember those days. kids on the block that only listened to pop music...would be like wtf ?! when i introduced them to rush !
It's amazing how intellectual everyone that comments on Rush videos are. AS opposed to other rock bands everything's all "F*** you dirty N***** eat a D***" It sickens me but makes me happy that there are still people that can communicate using words intended to be in the dictionary ahah. Btw, I'm 14 and love Rush and my parents DIDN'T introduce them to me :3
Rush is a great band but lets not get carried away...they arnt the best ever. They play really well but I havent met one chick that ever grooved to Rush. Nerds like to jerk off while listening to geddy lees girly voice...just sayin dont be hatein! Lol
men, after studyin 3 years of bass, i find so dificult to play their songs!. Because the songs are so long, and i always forget some passage ou the lyrics. Rush music is a lifetime work!
Yeah, Rush plays in a very complicated style. But complexity does not automatically mean that the music is good. In fact, I believe it is harder to make good songs for the audience when you have the internal need to compose longer, progressive pieces of music. To me the biggest wonder is how Rush manages to pull it off. Anyone can make a 10-20 minute track with lots of weird parts, but how many can make it interesting to the public? (consider Cygnus X-1 book I for instance)
I agree with ecapa0020! Very few bands EVER could hold a candle to Rush!! You may disagree but they are in my top 4 bands of all time...with Led Zeppelin, U2 and The Beatles!! I dare you to come up with a better 4!!
@StratmanHSS I have to admit since being born in 1958 I had the ultimate chance to grow up in the era of many things. I watched Moon landing 1969 in black and white. I have to choose between Alan Parson's project, ELO, Pink Floyd, BTO, and you expect me to choose? I have chosen. Rush is hands down the best band ever to exist.
But, i wonder how many of you are yet into Dream theater.
Dream theater makes this look simple. Not to bash Rush im a huge fan and always have been. I recommend Starting at the cd "train of thought" ...will blow you away.
@ToolandMAIDEN14 DT rules but if rush wasnt around there would be no DT and i would say go with awake or metropolis part 2 ... and why is this video a bunh of live footage of diffrent songs?
@DRINKSandDRUMS " DT rules but if rush wasnt around there would be no DT" yes there would be. King Crimson also played a pivotal role in their influences.
@PrimericanIdol when dream theater joined berklee evcery member of the bands favorite band and biggest influnce at the time were rush if it wasnt for neil peart u wouldnt not hear mike portnoy changing things ever bar thats where he got that from
@ToolandMAIDEN14 im a huge fan of both bands.... but saying Dream theater could make Rush look easy... i mean i know Mike Portnoy is the new drummer for A7x, and im a fan of them, he is amazing (R.I.P Rev) but no one can make neil pert look easy.
@TheTop10LiST420 This video was indeed shot in Montreal, however it wasn't at the Molson Centre as it had yet to be built, and in a different location no less. The Exit Stage Left video was shot at the Forum, the former home of the Habs.
dont know this band really but they influenced les claypool so thats ok with me....groundhogs day primus, check it out if your not already a fan, or any primus will do :D
rush is by far the most talented band, best stage show, best guitar drums n bass n singing, superior talent to all.i have rocked all my life n this is the best
unfortunately, this video was clipped and pieced together from other live rush videos. check it out carefully. they did a really good job but, there are no known official camera eye videos out there on record. btw, saw rush tonight @ madison square garden tonight. the show was awesome! yes, they played the camera eye in it's entirety.
I remember borrowing this album off my then girlfriends older brother.....twenty five years ago, I never gave it back..... She went about a fortnight after.... Great song from a great album.... Trying to remember that girls name, think his name was Gary or Gerry .... Whatever.... He had some great music!
I was 17 years old in 1981, and Rush was one of my favorite bands (and still are)...this is a fantastic video! Love it! Rush's music I could never get tired of...few contemporary bands could even come close! I can think of a couple, but that's about it...
no desprective to any other band, but Rush does rule. this song for example, the best drumming, geddy lees voice is golden, and the guitar solo is is amazing
Where can I find the keyboard part to this in sheet music from. I'm not looking for tab nor a video tutorial of the song, and no piano transcribe. I want the sheet music as if geedy lee played it.
I have said this for a very long time and repeat it here: If I were to go to heaven in an instant? I would be standing at the front of the stage at this concert Exit...Stage Left and already be high on the best grass. Watching this concert is my favorite place in all of time!
This is my buddy's recording. He set his recorder/mics next to a main that no one was near and left it there to then go enjoy the show. Thanks for the video.
First off great video and great song! Secondly popular music does suck, but there is still plenty of good instrumental and pro rock out there for you. Dream Theater should be obvious, but there are plenty more like Frost, Riverside, Porcupine Tree, Transatlantic, Oceansize, Opeth...the list goes on. Point is the music us out there but nowadays we need to go find it rather than waiting for it to find us via the radio. Find these bands that still care about creativity and emphasize musicianship
@psychofunksoldier02 This is the best comment I have seen posted here in a long time. Don't forget that Rush at their height were up against some of the worse music (and musicians) in the history of music.
@jarvisthebox Think of any band who relied on big hair, spandex or face paint and you'll get my drift. Then there was the spate of music that relied on a synth, one finger and a lyric like "dont you want me oh oh oh".
@ChristellaKury Ha Ha---I'm seeing Rush tonight... and I first saw them in 1977 too, so I think that qualifies me as a fan, but I'll tell you that I love Kiss and Alice Cooper too! It's the majesty of rock, if you get my drift.

This is actually sad to listen to because we'll never see such excellent, strong instrumental rock ever again. Today's music is total mindless crap compared to stuff like this, and it's only going to get worse. Music is DYING and wil be replaced by other forms of entertainment like the Internet and video games.
In 2011 Rush will play "Camera Eye" live, they perform the complete "Moving Pictures" album on stage. I think it`s one of their best songs, in a row with "YYZ", "Red Barchetta", "By Tor and the snow dog" and "Lakeside Park".
Try playing Lee's bass lines (and singing) simultaneously, Lifeson's guitar riffs/arpeggios and solos, and finally Peart's syncopated drum rhythms. None of the above is easy to perform.
The "musicians" in many of the so-called bands of today would be completely and utterly out of their depth i.e. bands like say McFly or U2. Rush's complicated awesome music could well be described as being on a "timeless wavelength"!!
@ecapa0020 --------I agree>>>>you forgot to addd that on top of singing and bass, Lee also plays keyboard/ organ and writes the music. One of the most talented bands in the world !!
@ecapa0020 Yes man. They were ALWAYS ...MUSIC FIRST. It makes it timeless. The only thing that will ever "date " Rush are Alex's haircuts and his ties. Which he really sported because of his great sense of humour.
Probably been mentioned but that is a video collage of the entire Exit...Stage Left concert with clips apparently taken from several songs. I see Red Barchetta and The Trees immediately. The sound is interesting and sounds period correct however. I always gauge by the synth sounds, Al's guitar sounds, and the stage of Ged's voice. You can just about tell what period it's from with those three factors.
When driving across country, I remember having this song on my walkman back in 1983 when the guy I was driving with tapped me on the shoulder and said "look over there" as I saw the 2 world trade centers and part of the other Manhattan skyline just as the part of "Streets of Manhattan" line came on.. No lie. I've never been to new york since. actually we never went into the city, we were stuck on the Jersey side.
What a great clip. Always wondered what that song sounded like live. I felt ripped off when watching the "Exit Stage Left" video where they cut it off after the intro... and it wasn't on the album either. All the Exit Stage Left video is such crap... even if there was an "official" release of the video, I'm sure it would look just like this. Great Job.

Thanx for posting this! I never knew there was a live recording of this...and this is from that period as well. I got to see them on MP tour on back-to-back nights at the ol' Cap Centre in Largo, MD so long ago and they didn't play it then. VERY COOL!!
heh..the amp....RIP. First show there for me was Sabbath with 10 years after opening. We sat so far back I think we were out on halsted. Didnt matter. Was live, it was Heaven and Hell tour, all was right with the world.
RUSH will regin 4ever in some spirit way even after there dead because these 3 legends will never burn out or fade cuz there badass as hell, plain and simple
Very good but the title should be more honest. I just saw them in Dallas "really" play this and people went crazy! I thought I was the only one who loved it. But before Time Machine, they never played it live.
I feel like this song was MEANT to be played live. Don't get me wrong the original recording is amazing, but just the growl of Geddy's bass in concert really puts the icing on the cake for this song. It must have been one of my favorites at the concert in Tampa this weekend.
I seen them 30 years ago in 1981 and then here again in Pittsburgh, PA. on September 16,2010 They are better than ever they sounded close to perfection at the new Consol center here thanks for posting

Hey guys, we're a group of upcoming 16 and 17 year olds who are trying to make a name for ourselves.
We would love it if you could like this comment to help more people see us!
We are located in New York and regularly play modern/classic/progressive music in the form of covers and originals.
A few of the bands that we generally cover include RUSH, Led Zeppelin, Pearl Jam, Lynyrd Skynyrd, and Incubus.
Please take a few minutes and listen to some of our videos, it would mean the world to us!

@tonusaitis I beg to differ, though I agree the music of the present is not what I wish it was. I am in a band, maybe I'll change that future.

In 2011 Rush will play "Camera Eye" live, they perform the complete "Moving Pictures" album on stage. I think it`s one of their best songs, in a row with "YYZ", "Red Barchetta", "By Tor and the snow dog" and "Lakeside Park".

No, Neil is the one who writes the song, remember he is the lyricist of the band.

RIGHT LET'S STOP MESSING ABOUT!!
Does anyone else agree?
ecapa0020 1 year ago 71
@ecapa0020 --------I agree>>>>you forgot to addd that on top of singing and bass, Lee also plays keyboard/ organ and writes the music. One of the most talented bands in the world !!

@ecapa0020 Who are U2?
robx78 1 year ago
@ecapa0020 Yes man. They were ALWAYS ...MUSIC FIRST. It makes it timeless. The only thing that will ever "date " Rush are Alex's haircuts and his ties. Which he really sported because of his great sense of humour.
Kesler1709 9 months ago
@ecapa0020 yeah but you really cant knock out U2... they've done some equally amazing stuff, albeit not as technically profficient as Rush...

nice audio, but hey...they play it so much better these days...they really seem in a hurry in the second half of the song.

VERY COOL!!

Very good but the title should be more honest. I just saw them in Dallas "really" play this and people went crazy! I thought I was the only one who loved it. But before Time Machine, they never played it live.
freewill51 1 year ago
I feel like this song was MEANT to be played live. Don't get me wrong the original recording is amazing, but just the growl of Geddy's bass in concert really puts the icing on the cake for this song. It must have been one of my favorites at the concert in Tampa this weekend.
