Fan-flipping-tastic. I was going back and forth with one of the premier makers of Palm-based OBD-II tools via email when the iPhone SDK first came out asking if they had plans to port their product to the iPhone. Since their target market is auto mechanics and not enthusiasts, they didn't see value in it.
I'm glad someone else took the initiative. I'm also curious as to what pricing is going to look like. And, as many have said and I echo, PLEASE include data logging.
Soooo, I can basically see the car rev on my iphone...I don't get it...I'm pretty sure the tach in my car does the same thing...Granted, I can't get out and walk away and see the tach, but then again, why would I want too!
wow asshole. you use a $230 adapter that plugs into the OBDII port of your car. the iPhone program, Rev, connect to the adaptoid as it would a wireless network and gathers information in real time through OBDII.
tach is one of the many things it displays. I suggest the Mfg. site before stating stupid shit. if the adaptoid was half price, and it were guaranteed to work with my 08 Jetta, I would get it.
Question to the developer: There are many acceleration programs out there for the iPhone, and being that Rev actually has useful information, does it avoid the pitfalls of other apps and allow you to datalog so you can review runs?
Don't know if you guys have played with the idea or not but if possible it would be nice to have REV notify your phone when your car's security system has been activated. (The ultimate car alarm!) Even if the first version doesn't contain it keep it i mind for later updates.
This app. is going to be EPIC. So do you hook up a 802.11 wireless transmitter to your OBD-II? If so, where do you get the adapter? And what about OBD-I? Some people have old school cars. What are you guys thinking about for pricing?
This is a "horrible" video. =p

I call fake. Sound overlay. Listen to the car @ 5 lengths.
Maybe a mike on the video camera pointed at the car? Maybe separate sound rec. at car. One exhaust on vid. matched the display. Maybe.
Show the ODB-II/802.11 dongle. Or peadal and display change at same time.
There are two commercial ODB-II 802.11 units, one is $1,500.00, Dynocom.inc, the other is $5,000.00. For garage use.
Or is this Bluetooth? Do you use the ElmScan 5? ($200-$250) Your website says 802.11.
Skeptically yours.
