Well, the particular instrument I'm playing is Kurdish, but there are so many variations on the "vertical fiddle" all around the world (i.e. Kemence, Lira, Erhu, Rebab, Gadulka, Rebec, etc) , I'd be reluctant to assign a single ethnicity to it.

Yes, although this instrument exists in many forms (Lira in Greece, Kemence in Turkey, Rebab in Indonesia, Erhu in China) this particular one is Iranian-Kurdish. In fact, the maker's last name is Mr. Kurdi.
