do you think the krank rev jr pro would sound good through a mesa rectifier 2x12 cab? and if not what would be another alternative to the standard 1x12 cab it comes with?
@lastorma Yeah i'm sure it would sound pretty good. I'd highly recommend a Krank cab though. Whether it be two 1x12 jr cabs both on the floor for that bigger bass response, or an sst or even a rev 4x12. The custom Eminence driver is too good of a match to not be used. But if you already have the Mesa 2x12 you'll be good. Maybe you could buy a couple of the custom Eminence speakers from Krank though and put them in there, they go for 70 bucks a piece :)
@Generak777 if i get a 4x12 cab with the 20 watt head will the krank 4x12 cab volumes levels be the same as the two 1x12s or louder because i live in a townhouse so i dont want it to be too loud.
@lastorma Well there's an effect called the proximity effect. And that's where, when two speakers are within half of a speaker cone's distance between each other, the sound is perceived to be twice as loud as normal. So with a 4x12, it would seem to be 4 times louder at the same volume. So if you're living in a smaller place i'd recommend the 1x12 idea. Do you own that mesa 2x12 you were talking about?
@lastorma Yeah it's a pretty good cab but you could do better for sure. The dual 1x12 setup would be great because you'd have more bass response than a 1x12, and if you need to take your amp somewhere you could just take a single 1x12 cab with you and it wouldn't be a hassle or a pain. I may get one soon because it's such a pain having to bring my 4x12 everywhere because it's so big and heavy. It sounds amazing though.
@ralderete3 Awesome! Yeah 20 watts is a lot louder than you think it would be. It's actually 20 watts with the volume around 2. It gets even more powerful the more you turn it up!! Are you liking it so far?
does the rev jr dirty channel sound just like the krankenstain jr dime channel im going to buy one of them soon dont know what one yet. I do like to play lots of metal. can you tell me your opinion.
@092275erik No they are both different but in good ways. Both can get great metal tones and they are both surprisingly unique for being from the same company. The main difference is that the Krankenstein has more high end on the krank channel. But if you want clean cleans then you'll want a rev because the 'kleen' channel on the stein is slightly dirty. Sounds great but it's not true cleans.
@092275erik Yeah it's like the rev krank channel in a pedal, but the krank channel on the stein sounds great too. the only downside i really see with the stein is that you dont have a true clean channel, but if you're playing metal that doesnt really matter haha
@MyLifeChanger It depends.. I played the krankenstein at namm this year and i loved it, but i dont own one and haven't had a lot of time to mess around on one. If you want/need versatility then go with the rev. But if you play strictly metal and dont mind that the 'clean' channel is more of a light overdrive channel (no clean cleans) then i'd go for that.
hey bro ive been looking into buying a REV SST cab how thick is the wood and is it really oversized cuz right now i run a marshall cab and i want some more low end and was hoping this cab would do it btw nice playing \m/ i noticed the as blood runs black
@slipknotmrocksmysock The wood is 13-ply baltic birch, not sure how thick it is measurement wise. This cab has an insane amount of low end. There were 2 earthquakes here today and stuff was falling in my room and I seriously thought it was my cab. Turns out it was a 5.7 earthquake and a 3.5 earthquake. I honestly thought it was my cab. Go with this cab. Great quality, great sound and definitely a great company!!
@TerrorBlade84 A Hotplate can bring down the level of any amp but this amp is meant to be played loud. 50 Watts isn't something you use as a bedroom amp, it needs to be played loud in order to sound good. And from what i hear, a hot plate set on -4 and -8 sounds fine, but the other settings sound really weird and messed up.
@Generak777 thanks for the reply Generakk!! problem is im not really a big fan of the solid states, i think there sound sucks but if u say that a 50W is too big for a bedroom how bout a 20W rev jr, i know it still sounds brutally loud but using it with the hotplate i can use it to jamm with my friends and at the same time use it as a practice amp
@TerrorBlade84 A 20 watt Jr is still a total beast. If you're gonna be running a hot plate I'm sure it'll still sound great. If you were to get a 20, you might as well buy the 50. It just depends what you mean by 'bedroom amp'. Are you able to play pretty loud?
@Generak777 i play in my basement which is kinda like a mini hall (big bedroom) so i can handle moderate to loud volumes during day and have to be low at nights
@TerrorBlade84 Also, there's also a trick you can do to get the amp down to quiet volume levels which would probably work great with a hotplate. You krank the master up around 5, and then engage the fx loop boost (there has to be something in the loop. If you don't have any pedals in there, a short little patch cable will do.) and then you just control the volume with the fx level knob. It sounds way better when you're doing that compared to controlling the volume with the master for low volumes
Do you like the SST cab? Ive got Jr. Pro as well and was considering getting this cab to pair it with. Obviously being as its an oversized cab it pushes a ton of bass but hows it cover the other realms of tone? And any complaints?
No complaints whatsoever. It is a big cab though so it takes up a nice chunk of space. The cleans with a RJP50 are beautiful as well. Great growly, thick mids as well.
good tone
