County commissioners and city councils have the authority for funding new community colleges owned and operated by the counties. "Communities with good educational opportunities end up having good economic opportunities"._Ronal Noonan
This speech sounds like a great idea. Too bad the actual plan seems to contrast with it. Increasing school days by 33% or adding day on Saturday. Shortening the summer break. Teachers pay based on student merit. Who the hell kidnapped the president and replaced him with a super-bush look alike. I would take the no child left behind act any day over Obama's actual proposal.
I voted for the man, I believed in what he said, but this video is just absolute proof he is a damn liar.
hahaha education? hes giving more money to people who dont work from the people who do.. who needs a education and a job when the government is giving out free money. stupid ass " ya its our education""ya we shoud extend school days" that would make more people drop out and not want to go. this will be like everything else he has passed either it wont or it will fail miserably in the first few months, exept trilions of dollers cheaper.
I can't think of one Presidential candidate in the last century that WASN'T the education President. They've all included higher teacher pay, better funding, merit pay, etc. as a promise. NONE of them have followed through. Look at the media. The same problems have festered for decades. it will never change people. Remember, these narcicists campaign in poetry and govern in prose. Public shools will always have the same issues. It gets them elected.
You are correct ! However if every county commissioner proposed a New College for his county and got one started, the local economy would benefit as well. It has been proven that communities that have good education opportunities end up having good economic opportunities. I proposed to county mayors in Tennessee to take charge and do it-(County commissioners and city councils are the only one with funding authority- Ron Noonan
American teachers are teaching to tests? You got to be kidding me right? if that's the problem, then why is the college entrance rate, which is based on tests, less than 50%?
The problem is not with the education system, its with the entire social structure that supports the kids. you can throw a billion dollars into a single state and if the kids go home to a single parent, gets hooked on drugs, etc, they won't be learn much no matter what you teach him.
Obama has consistently sided with the teacher's unions. The average public school teacher salary is $83,000 and a quarter of the teachers make over $100,000. That is an equivalent salary of over $110,000 and $133,000 respectively. Yet, somehow Chicago schools are still in the tank. Obama is strongly against merit pay, and has repeatedly voted for the status quo. The teachers have no responsibility to the students because their pay is based solely on their years as an educator.
And the teachers' union is a large part of the problem. Teachers get tenored regardless of their ability and once tenored you just can't get rid of them. Students are on the losing end here. If teachers' pay is supposed to equate to better education than why do we have so many illiterate 12th graders? Teachers across our nation are pressured to "push" kids through school. A higher salaried teacher does not instantly create a good educator. Merit is everything; it gives others a role model.
Denver Colorado. Testing is okay. Testing for funding is disgusting. It's all trickle down Reaganomics. Reward high grades with high funding, cut funds to failing schools to encourage growth. It doesn't make sense but that's what happens in this state and abroad. Public education needs to be funded as a first priority of Obama. America after all is the only eighteenth most literate country. Private schools reward few and hurt a vast majority of kids. A strong America is a smart America.
I agree with him about the standardized testing, it is a system that needs to be changed. However, how is he planning to change it? I agree with FlipCombatMedic, he just pointed out what is wrong but and said he'd put more money in education, but just throwing more money in is not going to make a difference. And besides, where is this extra money coming from. Is this part of the higher taxes he plans on imposing. Because if that's the case, no thanks. Schools have money, if they'd use it wisely.
I'm not totally sold yet, but at least he recognizes how those standardized tests undermine teachers' professionalism. There's more to a kid then one number that is produced by filling in a bunch of bubbles!
I am attending college right now to be an elementary school teacher and I know when I had to do the stupid bubble thing I just filled in whatever because it was boring! I know a lot of other kids that did the same! BAN THE BUBBLE TESTS! FIND A NEW EFFECTIVE WAY TO GET UR STATISTICS!
I still don't know what Obama's plans are. Any half-wit can point out what is obviously wrong. Merely saying something needs to be changed is meaningless.
America do us all a favor this election. Stop voting for rich guy A or rich guy B vote for a third party. One that does'nt watse millions of dollars telling you what you want to hear. The nation deserves a third choice the nation deserves a new voice!
