i dont like this version...i mean, we all know hes a talent, but in my honest opinion, this is not the way to play a song like stairway to heaven. Just for my personal taste
@s0ul3ssm4n They're angled because his style of playing requires a lot of awkward hand contortions that are much more difficult on a normal fretted guitar. i'm not sure what the specific name of the guitar is, but i know he has guitars made from Greenfield and Breedlove guitars.
@MrYoureAdouche he had normal frets on his first recordings of these songs.... to me it appears he just got lazy if he has to switch to a non standard neck when he wrote it standard
@s0ul3ssm4n Nah i think he just got noticed and made more money from sponsors/shows, so he decided to change up his arsenal of guitars lol. whatever makes andy happy, makes me happy.
@MrYoureAdouche I thought it was to give a better intonation for songs like drifting...it's angled just like how a piano might be angled to get a good intonation
to the guy who said this is as intense as trying to do something before your micro wake hits 0 dude, that moment IS FUCKING INTESNSE... the moment when you know you HAVE TO do something in that last 10 seconds is exilirating infact i live for that moment. i thrive in that environment when its do what you have to do in 10 seconds or your microwave burito will be slightly colder and to all the people who say this is stupid...youre probably right but all im trying to say is..its pretty damn intense
@drewzian1724 because thumb picks don't give the same effect, imagine the bass line in this for example being blared out. It wouldn't sound like a proper acoustic, it would be too many sounds at once. Besides, thumb picks are for people who can't finger right ;)
@MrSailnsurf No man, stay alive and share this fucking masterpiece and everything Andy has played! If u die, we will lose one of our warriors! Stay strong mates! Live for real music!
just noticed fret layout on the neck, is it to keep the forearm and wrist action in line with the particular fret position , just watch how he plays up and down the fret board , his forearm and wrist action makes it look effortless ,
@S4TTOfficial I just saw a video where he explains they're called 'Fanned frets', where they simulate a piano or a harp, where the bridge and the nut are angled so that the lowest string is the longest, and the strings going up are shorter as you go up to the highest E etc. It's so that the lower strings have a longer scale length and the higher strings have a shorter scale length. It is also apparently much better with intonation and keeping in tune. Hope this helps!
@bigggieb00f what freaks me out about it is that the nut isn't parallel to the bridge coz wouldn't that screw up the tension across the neck ??? .... but yeh fuck doing barre chords on that thing lol
@InFeRnO954 Nope, fretted stringed can have different string lengths, as long as the frets match. Guitars like this make use of that to equalizes the tension between the high and lower strings. From what I have heard chords are actually easier, because the angle of the frets works with your nature hand movement, not against it like a normal guitar
@natrat51 starting to make more sense now I guess, but now that i think about it barre chords wouldn't be much harder than on a normal guitar purely because of what you said "frets work with your natural hand movement"
hes very good at playing and i play aswell so from a musicians point of view i think his takes kinda ruined it the origionals better !!! stick to it !!!
@k0mpassi: I know eh? You can totally see that it's standard tuning, because in the middle of the intro riff, you can see him forming Am and D chords, then towards the end a G chord... definitely standard tuning.
@rayryeng Yup, I play this song all the time. It always starts at A dominant minor, to D minor, G major, then the final note would be A minor. All in standard tuning...
I'm honestly asking a question, i hope somebody knows the answer. but why is his fretboard so...messed up? id guess its bent up like that just to make chords smaller and more compact and hit bass notes but i have nooo clue. help please? thanks :)
So, normal frets are actually out of tune. Because of the thickness of the strings, the pinch points for certain intervals are not exactly the same. It's the same concept as a fretless bass guitar, it allows you to be perfectly 100% in tune no matter where you are on the finger board.
@JoJoCello so would that mean to hit, say, a twelfth bar harmonic, would you tilt your finger to line up with the frets, or keep it straight up and down like on a regular guitar?
So... I've never had the pleasure of PLAYING one of these guitars, because they're naturally very very expensive. But, yes, the harmonics should be exactly over the fret, so you'd have to tilt your finger sideways just a little bit.
@JoJoCello i suppose that makes sense, considering the headstock and...i don't know the word for it, so the place where the strings connect to the body are tilted so that makes sense. thanks for all the help :)
all he did was take the finger picking pattern from dust in the wind and speed up the tempo to make it sound more lively.. pretty simple. sounds great though.
99% of LZ fans won't be able to wrap their minds around American fingerpicking tempo's being applied to this song. My guess is that if Robert stated he enjoyed this version 99% of the (this ain't right) comments would go unspoken. Good thing they have so very many concert dates-years of the same songs that have been recorded. With each date having many generations/mix's/matrix/tape collective named versions to keep them busy. My best friends band opened for JP version of Yardbirds first US gig
Did you this wasn't even Led Zeppelin's song? They covered it off a band that opened for them... They just made the song big, or... The song made them big.
@BurntToast5561 No, Zeppelin did write this, allegedly they copied the riff from another band but I've heard that song they supposedly copied, it sounds nothing like it. And they were big before this song.
