  • Can't stand the Lady-Gaga crap advertising under Andy's video...what a fucked up world!

  • i'm on guitar videos streak and so do you

  • Zeppelin on crack

  • Comment removed

  • Nice, but bit too fast for my taste.

  • why are the frets angled? what's the purpose and what is that style of guitar called? please and thank you for the information.

  • @s0ul3ssm4n They're angled because his style of playing requires a lot of awkward hand contortions that are much more difficult on a normal fretted guitar. i'm not sure what the specific name of the guitar is, but i know he has guitars made from Greenfield and Breedlove guitars.

  • @s0ul3ssm4n Nah i think he just got noticed and made more money from sponsors/shows, so he decided to change up his arsenal of guitars lol. whatever makes andy happy, makes me happy.

  • @MrYoureAdouche I thought it was to give a better intonation for songs like drifting...it's angled just like how a piano might be angled to get a good intonation

  • @Made4EvilUsed4Good You're right, intonation is part of it

  • haha Looks like he ran up that stairway :P

  • Making a complete barré on that guitar mustn't be so easy, awesome performance anyway

  • Uhm

    Andy McKee is amazing..

  • to the guy who said this is as intense as trying to do something before your micro wake hits 0 dude, that moment IS FUCKING INTESNSE... the moment when you know you HAVE TO do something in that last 10 seconds is exilirating infact i live for that moment. i thrive in that environment when its do what you have to do in 10 seconds or your microwave burito will be slightly colder and to all the people who say this is stupid...youre probably right but all im trying to say is..its pretty damn intense

  • His face at the end! LOL

  • uh never play stairway to heaven unless your good! MORON! kill yourself

  • @shawn20072009 you're the moron, look at his stuff. he's amazing

  • Skilful but sounded horrible

  • brilliant skills and all that.. but too fast for my liking :)

  • @stefanmmclean for me to

  • Coolest guitar ever!!!

  • Very cool! It's like "Stairway" meets "Dust in the Wind"!

  • sounds like a Stonebridge

  • nice cover, but I ag

  • the ending was feakin funny

  • very creative sounding.. i wonder why andy mckee never use thumb pick?

  • @drewzian1724 because thumb picks don't give the same effect, imagine the bass line in this for example being blared out. It wouldn't sound like a proper acoustic, it would be too many sounds at once. Besides, thumb picks are for people who can't finger right ;)

  • @july23rd1989 You shut right the fuck up

  • I'm sorry I love Andy McKee but this isn't the sex in the ear I'm used to from him. Slow it down or leave it to Page.

  • @july23rd1989 Rodrigo y Gabriela's version is not slower but still great though.

  • @july23rd1989 it's a ncie cover, but I agree with you, doesn't capture the emotion of the song

  • he's the only person in the world who can do something without an asian kid being better than him

  • Nice Handling Hand's :)

  • NO STAIRWA..... who am I kidding, Andy, play whatever you want, everything sounds magical.

  • so.. i heard led zeppelin made a cover of this song?

    haha :)

  • so.. i heard led zeppelin made a cover of this song?

    haha :)

  • a tab need to be made for this finger style version ... it just needs to be made

  • If I ever know even half of what he's forgotten I'll be a happy player.

  • geez its like guitar porn o.0

  • @MrSalinsurf Like 90 % of the views are haters that want to dislike or write a mean comment xD

  • Damnnnnnnnn!!!!

  • I love his face at the end.

  • Man that guitar can sing...

  • This song:460,000 views, Justin Bieber:near 700 million views. I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

  • @MrSailnsurf

Justin Bieber? I don't want to live on this planet anymore...

Actually, I do like living on this planet. He should get off!

  • @MrSailnsurf Why? 460,000 is a fuckload of views, he's very successful. I feel more sorry for some of my favourite bands who have 1,000 views.

  • @MrSailnsurf This just epitomizes the saying, "It's not quantity, but QUALITY that matters."

  • @MrSailnsurf tell you how many prepubescent girls are on youtube these days..

  • @MrSailnsurf No man, stay alive and share this fucking masterpiece and everything Andy has played! If u die, we will lose one of our warriors! Stay strong mates! Live for real music!

  • @MrSailnsurf Nothing to do here *fly away on a jetpack

  • too cluttered

  • Andy in standard tuning?! My friend owes me fifteen bucks!

  • love the last note

  • pośpiech gubi romantyke.....jesteś komercjonalistą kolego...sorry

  • just noticed fret layout on the neck, is it to keep the forearm and wrist action in line with the particular fret position , just watch how he plays up and down the fret board , his forearm and wrist action makes it look effortless ,

  • Cool!

  • I swear, if i could play this my life would be complete :o

  • Are those frets angled or something?they dont look perfectly parallel to each other for some reason...

  • @S4TTOfficial I just saw a video where he explains they're called 'Fanned frets', where they simulate a piano or a harp, where the bridge and the nut are angled so that the lowest string is the longest, and the strings going up are shorter as you go up to the highest E etc. It's so that the lower strings have a longer scale length and the higher strings have a shorter scale length. It is also apparently much better with intonation and keeping in tune. Hope this helps!

  • @maxsmith011 Thanks man, yea that definitely helped.

  • Prefer rodrigo y gabriellas version :P

But i still love this guy

  • if he can why cant i give a try

  • sickest guitar iv seen in a while - holy crap o.O

  • I say we start calling him the king of acoustic :)

  • That guitar is such a mindfuck with its diagonal frets.

  • i guess they Ran up The StairsxD

  • Comment removed

  • Only just discovered Andy McKee.. but now i actually cant stop listening to him o.o <3

  • Those frets are freakin' me out.

  • @bigggieb00f lol me too but the guitar has a TAPER! i think!

  • @bigggieb00f what freaks me out about it is that the nut isn't parallel to the bridge coz wouldn't that screw up the tension across the neck ??? .... but yeh fuck doing barre chords on that thing lol

  • @InFeRnO954 Nope, fretted stringed can have different string lengths, as long as the frets match. Guitars like this make use of that to equalizes the tension between the high and lower strings. From what I have heard chords are actually easier, because the angle of the frets works with your nature hand movement, not against it like a normal guitar

  • @natrat51 starting to make more sense now I guess, but now that i think about it barre chords wouldn't be much harder than on a normal guitar purely because of what you said "frets work with your natural hand movement"

  • @bigggieb00f his fingers are freakin me out ! awesome skills!

  • @bigggieb00f especially with the insane fingerpicking speed, the banjo rolls haha

  • unreal nd his guitar is class but his music is better :)

  • se cago en la rola este gordo

  • hope that guitar is 18+....

  • @PukeOfThePukes doesnt matter it was'nt consensual anyway

  • @PukeOfThePukes it just got raped if its not

  • @PukeOfThePukes Just There he goes again Finger Efing it!

  • @PukeOfThePukes rape is still illegal

  • @PukeOfThePukes my guitar's a cougar

  • hes very good at playing and i play aswell so from a musicians point of view i think his takes kinda ruined it the origionals better !!! stick to it !!!

  • does anyone here remember laughter!!!!!

  • @k0mpassi: I know eh? You can totally see that it's standard tuning, because in the middle of the intro riff, you can see him forming Am and D chords, then towards the end a G chord... definitely standard tuning.

  • @rayryeng Yup, I play this song all the time. It always starts at A dominant minor, to D minor, G major, then the final note would be A minor. All in standard tuning...

  • @k0mpassi: Definitely standard tuning (EADGBE). You can tell from the fingering and the way it sounds

  • @rayryeng Standard eh? Quite unexpected from andy.

  • Does anyone know the tuning?

  • Wtf is wrong with his fretboard?

  • @perspektyw94 nothing dude, it's called Multiscale fretting, or fanned fret

  • @perspektyw94 if your exposed to that level of awesome for more than 15 sec you will slant too

  • @MrRightshot its for more accurate innotation

  • youtube view counts pre-vevo: 176

take a look at some of the pre-vevo stuff here ----->

    up yours vevo

  • fajnie...co to za gitara ?Co z tymi progami?

  • is his guitar neck twisted or am I imagining it

  • @TheKingofthechronic its a special fretting system. fanned frets i believe.

  • when i see him i feel like im never gonna be better playing the guitar makes me leave playing for awhile

  • omg

  • This is pretty impressive rhythm but If It didn,t say 'STAIRWAY' I would not be able to hear any melody playing..anybody else feel that way?

  • @RoyEberitzsch No. Shush your mouth.

  • Tommy Emmanuel call's this technique 'boomchick'

  • I miss Epic Beard.

  • whats kind of guitar is it?

  • @lisekmusic greenfield fanned fret

  • @lisekmusic

    it's a greenfield G4.2 or a greenfield G4B.2

super high quality instrument i'd assume...undoubtedly pricey

  • No...not cool. You don't mess with Stairway like that. I don't care WHO you are. Sorry Mr. McKee, but not this time.

  • I'm honestly asking a question, i hope somebody knows the answer. but why is his fretboard so...messed up? id guess its bent up like that just to make chords smaller and more compact and hit bass notes but i have nooo clue. help please? thanks :)

  • @nerdalert12345 It's called a fanned fretboard.

So, normal frets are actually out of tune. Because of the thickness of the strings, the pinch points for certain intervals are not exactly the same. It's the same concept as a fretless bass guitar, it allows you to be perfectly 100% in tune no matter where you are on the finger board.

  • @JoJoCello so would that mean to hit, say, a twelfth bar harmonic, would you tilt your finger to line up with the frets, or keep it straight up and down like on a regular guitar?

  • @nerdalert12345

So... I've never had the pleasure of PLAYING one of these guitars, because they're naturally very very expensive. But, yes, the harmonics should be exactly over the fret, so you'd have to tilt your finger sideways just a little bit.

  • @JoJoCello i suppose that makes sense, considering the headstock and...i don't know the word for it, so the place where the strings connect to the body are tilted so that makes sense. thanks for all the help :)

  • all he did was take the finger picking pattern from dust in the wind and speed up the tempo to make it sound more lively.. pretty simple. sounds great though.

  • I guess They Ran Up the StairsxDD

  • @memerton probably not too much, since he's so good on guitar

  • craazy fretbored

  • 99% of LZ fans won't be able to wrap their minds around American fingerpicking tempo's being applied to this song. My guess is that if Robert stated he enjoyed this version 99% of the (this ain't right) comments would go unspoken. Good thing they have so very many concert dates-years of the same songs that have been recorded. With each date having many generations/mix's/matrix/tape collective named versions to keep them busy. My best friends band opened for JP version of Yardbirds first US gig

  • i wonder how much p*ssy he got in college...

  • @memerton none, he was way to busy playing his guitar..

  • @memerton more than you do

  • @memerton dude I think the same thing every time I watch this dude play

  • @memerton the sad thing is that Justin Bieber will get more

  • @memerton i think none, he was bussy practicing guitar =)

  • @memerton All of it....

  • @memerton Guess none, cuz he was practising on his guitar all the time :)

  • @memerton A fair bit I'd say.

  • @memerton Probably none. He was too busy practicing guitar.

  • @memerton All of it.

  • This is too fast considering the original. First thing that came to mind was a hamster going crazy on it's running wheel, strangely enough.

  • YouTube view counts pre-VEVO: 176

    Well, shit.

  • His laugh at the end is as if to say "pffft, too easy"

  • I'm a huge Zep fan and this was not what I was expecting. Pretty good though...

  • Pretty Good

  • I Guess They Ran Up The Stairs.xD

  • @johana44ify get outta here

  • @blackvenumJ Fuck you!

  • OMG WHAT KIND OF GUITAR IS THAT

  • The arrangement should be (Hypothetically) Jimmy Page on lead and Andy on ryhtem guitar.

  • i dont like stairway to heaven..but i love andy. good rendering bud.

  • lol

  • Did you this wasn't even Led Zeppelin's song? They covered it off a band that opened for them... They just made the song big, or... The song made them big.

  • @BurntToast5561 No, Zeppelin did write this, allegedly they copied the riff from another band but I've heard that song they supposedly copied, it sounds nothing like it. And they were big before this song.

  • angry up to heaven

  • Andy, you are my all time favorite guitarist - and then Tom Ward HA HA - Thanks for the inspiration and the awesome videos. Kind Regards, from another guitar and music lover

  • Ending is amazing :D

  • 2:35 Dramatic Chipmunk :D

  • He is allowed to play this in guitar stores.

  • @PathogenProductions ha ha you've got my vote

  • He MUST have more than ten fingers!

  • Wow....I feel this is an out-of-the box mod to 'Common Ground',....... marvellous, Andy!

  • no no no it's 'Rocket to Heaven'

  • check out the bridge, the frets and the nut on that guitar........having some intonation problems, or what??

  • @Buddhamaniac It's called fan frets. It allows you to have a longer scale length for the lower strings.

  • @Buddhamaniac Apparently fan frets actually improve intonation :)

  • @wildozerful that's the whole idea

  • Weird scales?
