If any of you have played hockey at a reasonably high level, you know that type of hit is commonplace. Any time you go after the puck in a corner, expect to get run over if you don't keep your head on a swivel. And the reaction by the teammates, attacking Phaneuf, is also commonplace. The only thing that anyone did wrong on this play was Kopitar not having his head up. If he has his head up, he positions himself differently or braces himself properly, and the rest of it doesn't happen

I partially agree with VANHALENFAN1978, not boarding but definitely interference, but because Kopitar took a big hit for interfering with Phaneuf's path to the puck but I would let it go rather than give the Kings a penalty, Kopitar paid the price for breaking the rules.

The NHL rulebook dictates that charging "shall mean the actions of a player or goalkeeper who, as a result of distance traveled, shall violently check an opponent in any manner. A 'charge' may be the result of a check into the boards, into the goal frame or in open ice. It can be called with no problem in this case.

Weak coverage in defensive zone.
Poor skater.
No offence (almost a year without a goal in Toronto)
If he ever has a career ending injury, there will be a lot of people, including a few NHLers, having a good laugh and saying, "what goes around..."

You can hit someone who's driving the puck , you can't hit someone who's not touched the puck dude, otherwise , everybody would keep hitting everybody and there would be no game. This is why there are rules about boarding and interference.
Phaneuf is pure garbage, Kopitar DID NOT even touch the puck , that's interference and boarding , he knew he would lose the puck to Kopitar so he decided to go for Kopitar! TRASH!
