  • Swing kids brought me here..... It don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing.... swing heil! ;)

  • At 1 minute 29 seconds, when the clarinet plays a glissando... how on earth is it played so smoothly? i play the clarinet and i don't think i'll ever be able to play anything like that!:L

  • lol at 1.40

  • it dont mean a thing if luis didnt sing...7 racists heard it with prejudice...JAes

  • Why would this song have a guitar part?? This is older jazz with horns and pianos.. the real stuff. I hate that they made this song so commercial and the younger generation knows nothing about the older versions.

  • Hahaha...if you pause it, and replay it, then use the arrows on your keyboard to dash through several parts of the song, it's super funny. :^)

  • in what album of armstrong are included this single?

  • i thought Armstrong was white since music appreciation in 6th grade

way to fucking go racially sensitive suburbs

  • Great tune and nice pics of Louis although the fourth pic is actually Wynton Marsalis...I am sure Louis would approve though since Wynton is "carrying on the legacy" you might say...he does look like a young Armstrong and I am sure there are many musical similarities too...

  • Whoever clicked dislike on this can gently insert their monitor into themselves.

  • vibrato at the end of notes :D

  • 6 people don't have speakers....

  • @Phoenitron

    improv

  • @Phoenitron Just comp on the chromatic run downs, use your ear.

  • @Phoenitron Try the Soundtrack of Sweet and Lowdown, i think that version (Dick Hyman) has a guitar on it. Great tune btw!

  • @Phoenitron rosenberg plays it on guitar, check it, prefer this though

  • @Phoenitron pfft guitar ... this is back before jazz guitar was used ... its also before Saxophones were used hence the clarinet

  • @Eattsie k didn't ask if it was after jazz, just if there was a guitar verse...

  • @Phoenitron replace a trumpet stanza with a guitar squearrr!

  • @Phoenitron I know this is late, but might help someone else -- for guitar look for the Dizzy Gillespie version.

  • love his voice...so manly

  • @oORAYOoORAYOo Don't you know this vid is mega old, only meant to play a song, and that your comment is useless and annoying? Just really wanted to let you know.

  • I didn't know louis had covered this, i heard the version on a sprite commercial and i was like "yes, gotta find that"

  • i first heard this song on swing kids!!!!!

  • Epic :D

  • when was this version released?

  • this is the version on "The Great Summit - The Master Takes" which is an album that features Louis Armstrong and Duke Ellington playing on various jazz standards and originals

  • loved it!

  • God damn Louis Armstrong is one of my favorite people.

  • This song is so freaking awesome. I never knew the title of this song until my U.S. History teacher showed the class the movie "Swing Kids". Great movie for anybody who likes swing jazz, and is interested in German history during WWII. The title of this song is sang multiple times by characters as a protest to the H.J. (a bunch of young nazis).

  • It is a composition by Duke Ellington with lyrics by Irving Mills, now accepted as a jazz standard. The music was written and arranged by Ellington in August 1931 during intermissions at Chicago's Lincoln Tavern and was first recorded by Ellington and his orchestra for Brunswick Records (Br 6265) on February 2, 1932.

  • Yes this song is originally composed by Duke ellington and sung by louis armstrong in this version its my general study for junior cert music! ny one doing music will know wat i mean! luv this music jazz has to be the most beautiful form of music!

  • This is the louis armstrong version.

It is written by duke ellington, I think he played the piano in that one.

  • wasnt this duke ellington. im a youngster but i could have sworn...

  • i believe,( and i may be wrong) that duke ellington was the composer and the saxaphone in this song!

  • it was. i had to introduce the song while pretending to be Ella Fitzgerald while the band played in the black history program! :) Sir Duke was a genius!

  • excellent song. was more than delighted to see "princess and the frog" today. wasn't expecting great jazz; and they pronounced "lou-isssssssssssss" right. EXCELLENT: moral, art, and music. Well done~ Love Louis always

  • Good old Tummy Young on Trombone , he starte his career with Bebop as sideman of Dizzy

  • second pic is not louis, its wynton marsalis. otherwise, nice compilation.

  • this is pretty amazing <3

  • legend !!!!!!

  • Swing hail

  • i thought that it was suppose to start like...

it don't mean a thang if it ain't got that swang, boo op, boo op, boo op, boo op, boo op, boo op

  • Shoot thats Louis he did everything his own way! LOL

  • it don't mean a thing if it ain't got that swing, do wah do wah do wah! :D

  • the bass line is soo cash.

  • I'm confused.

I thought this song was from Duke Ellington?

  • This song just has many covers, this ver just happens to be the one I enjoy most. ^^

  • @Marcobunny me too...

  • it's from just about everyone ;)

  • it is but louis did a cover

  • Duke Ellington wrote it in 1931, but it has been recorded many many times since by various artists. Ellington recorded several versions himself. Keep in mind that Jazz tunes were open to interpretation and definitely improvisation, only following the loose structure of the original. It would be almost inconceivable for two recordings to sound the same.

  • @harris3810 right you are! In fact, in most cases if one persons rendition of a song sounded the same as another peole frowned upon it. It was expected for the musician to do his own thing and enjoy himself! That's why Jazz and Blues are my soul, nothing else seems to have that swing.

  • @mehonrahman I think it was originally by Duke Ellington. Btw, thanks for the track mate.

  • @mehonrahman louis armstrong perfected it

hes quite possibly the nicest person to have ever lived

  • @mehonrahman

Just like blues, you'll find that there are a million covers of the same songs, ( All of me could be an example :) )

  • @mehonrahman Duke wrote it.

  • @mehonrahman You're right. Duke Ellington is the composer and Irving Mills did the lyrics, but as mentioned there's like a million covers of this song so find the one you like the most ;)

  • @mehonrahman ella fitzgerald &duke ellington-it dont mean a thang lol there is a youtube vid of it i think

  • @mehonrahman, the original song by Duke with lyrics by Irving Mills in the early 30s

and it become a jazz standard with so many covers even from Duke himself, and this is a cover for the song by Loui

  • gotta love the soul and the swing.

  • SUCHMO !!!

  • Man I can just listen to this and just have fun on the drums. Thats what I love about music like this, I can just have fun and play what I feel.

  • i'm with you, on this one

  • not if your black kkkraca

  • @deshun1987 u an me both brother

  • @deshun1987 Shut up about your age! Why is it that if there is any music from the past people have to tell everybody their fuckin age?! Bach died in like 1750... it doesn't mean that people who listen to that music now are at least 260 years old!

  • @stoph2 Wtf are you being such a little bitch. Hes simply following the true stereotype that many people now a days have no taste in music. I am 16 and the music my friends listen to I cant stand. Like Lil Wayne, Plies, And Gucci Mane, Wtf are they saying, honestly.

  • @deshun1987 lol oh yeh? im 18 =) i like this old school flow

  • @deshun1987 I'm 20 and I love this song among others.
