  • Stephen......... Couldnt even remember his name

  • Stop messin about! :)

  • Poor Kenneth, trying desperately hard to be interested in this rather crass and somewhat self indulgent individual...we all love him some years later, as the wonderful and talented Stephan Fry

  • FRYING TONIGHT!

  • He comes off as quite pretentious and incredibly posh here.

  • @iamthe1337est Well yes. He is. But he's not 'being' posh. He actually is. And pretentious? Nah.

  • stephen's a great mimic; his dustin hoffman voice was excellent.

  • he looks a little like matt le tesier

  • the most fantastic English smarm competition I've ever seen!

  • this is the most english thing there has ever been

  • Vote for Stephen.

  • My Goodness... Kenneth Williams expression during that sex lecture description.. priceless.

  • omg i love fry's voice ! so sexy ;)

  • Kenneth Williams was a legend.

  • stephen has dropped the extreme fake posh accent these days.

So immature for a 28 year old.

  • Thumbs up if you absolutely LOVE! the Carry On films! I certainly do!

  • Stephen Fry still looks bloody good even if he is gay... *sigh*

  • @ThisIsARomCom because you think being gay changes the physical appearance of someone? o_0 why would you make such a comment?

  • @Ribbo I meant that he looks really good and it's a shame that he is not straight otherwise i would totally do him!

  • @ThisIsARomCom I'm sury that both stephen fry AND kenneth williams were gay

  • Bloody Hell Stephen looks young there.

Ahh, Kenneth Williams. Poor man had a tough life. Comedians always seem to have a bad run in their personal life.

  • Hmm thanks

  • Thumbs up if you think people that make "thumbs up if such and such" posts are cunts.

  • The difference between a true master and a self-absorbed bloated chancer.

  • Kenneth Williams IS a legend

  • Wow

  • gr8 combo these two. happy days

  • And Fry is from East Anglia but we called his accent received pronunciation

  • That is a London accent

  • @jnmklo9 No, the "posh" accent, doesnt belong to any part of the country, as it is cultivated, not regional, thus can be heard all over the UK, and commonwealth.

  • i wish all english people talked with these accents...its marvelous

  • I could listen to these two talk for hours!

  • pure class

  • Two extraordinary giants.

  • if I had eight thumbs and two fingers, all the thumbs would be up... Pure class

  • Just class...Both of them. :)

  • I LOVE BOTH THOSE MEN.

  • stephen seems abit more up himself here....he's more mellow now

  • AHAHAHAHAHA i love his aussie bit. he got it exactly right.

  • occasionally funny but worrying

  • I like his intellect but at this age he came across as an arrogant git

  • @hughmooney61 I think he was just nervous.

  • @StickItUpYrBumGugle He was- he wrote about the interview in a 1986 Literary Review, saying that "I could remember that my Christian name began with an S, and that I used to be younger, but that was about it". :D I've always liked this clip; Kenneth and Stephen are well-matched as interviewer and interviewee respectively, I think.

  • @PlunderingDesire1 Yeah, I agree. And it's natural for a lot of people to over-compensate when they're nervous.

  • I'm not sticking my thumbs up Stephen Fry.

  • @FreddPepper i liked the

self serving pride of the era 1940s to 1980s. All this self hate

    of this decade worries me..

    Well done Stephen .

    b like that.

    nice

  • @FreddPepper

    i would, but i'm a ladygirl. i don't think he'd be interested. :)

  • The English aren't so honest. I nailed a £1,000 betting slip on England to win the world cup on a lamp post 6 months ago. When I got back somebody had stolen my nail.

  • @gazz12345a lol

  • he died when i was 2 ;( wish i could have met him. carry on movies keep him alive.

  • thumbs up if you think Kenneth WIlliams is a legend....

  • @davros1488 Did they fuck each other's shitters? No, probably not, you idiot. I also notice 1488 in your name. Does this mean you're one of those really fun neo-Nazis? This would explain your idiocy.

  • still miss Kenneth

  • Ken and Stephen together; great stuff.

  • I think Stephen must be very nervous in this interview. He seems to avoid eye contact with Kenneth whenever he can.

  • @pjaylett He's looking at the studio audience. Which is the correct thing for an actor to be impulsed to look at. But sure, a little nervous, yes. Very nervous, no.

  • bet there was a reach around post show....

  • Good job Stephen is not so pompus nowadays. What an awful story about Australia.

  • How fascinating to see 2 men similar in many ways, but to contrast their lives based on circumstance - Williams lived mostly in a time where homosexuality was vilified (& even illegal til 1967) & had a bully of a father. During Fry's lifetime things improved (but clearly have a ways to go, as reflected in some comments here...). While both suffered depression, it seems fair to say that Stephen gets more respect (& is paid accordingly) & has more chance for happiness than poor Kenneth ever did.

  • 2:14 I thought the "extraordinary thing" was that he discovered tv. Ooops, my bad.

  • Notice that Kenneth forgets Stephen Fry's surname as he wraps the interview up at 08:12! ("Thank you very much... Stephen..."..). And the look that Fry gives him straight after. Priceless!

  • god bless you Kenny and long live you Mr Fry

    Utter genius!

  • @MegaPepper123 NO! These are gentleman, not puffs! Yes they are homosexual, but not puffs like alan carr!

  • I miss these kinds of interviews, I'm afraid Graham Norton and Alan Carr making a few rude jokes just doesn't quite cut it.

  • @Coolguyrob2006 You're quite right. The lack of intelligence we see from our "celebrities" today really is disturbing. I don't recall any intellectual discussions from any of todays chat shows. Im not homophobic, but the three puffs we have as regular chat show hosts now O'Grady, Norton, and Carr, are all incredibly crude.

  • THIS IS ENGLAND

  • wow he is soooo posh!

  • kenneth aka mr burns.

  • It's quite rare that I'd describe anyone as true inspiration, but Stephen is one of those people.

  • Mr Williams will all ways outshine that other little prick calling himself Fry

  • a bit o' British gibberish anyone? :))

  • Stephen Fry is so hot then and now! xx

  • Williams is creepy at best.

  • Comment removed

  • @dilwich123 oooh nooo creepy? no?, Matron! take IT AWAY!

  • Lovely not to hear all that canned laughter we get nowadays-laughter ensuing after every fuckin sentence!

  • amazing to see both of them together having a conversation, They are 2 people you would have imagined had never met and were from different generations of actors/comedians. I honestly never knew they had crossed paths, its a true one of those moments you think if only such and such were able to have met due to one being dead or both, its never going to be possible but here I can see that moment I never believed had happened or would ever!

  • It's like Thunder interviewing Lightning

  • 2 queers

  • @GIANTreed1 Oh, well done. ;)

  • @GIANTreed1 Jack ass

  • @GIANTreed1 7 out of 10 for observation

  • Really hard to imagine these two with some guy or other hanging out their bum, or a big veiny willie in their mouths, but that's what they like(d), apparently.

  • @alainejosey What a way with words you have - such intimate detail - you must be a method writer! One little tip, though - please do get your facts correct - Kenneth considered himself asexual ('such a messy business', he was fond of saying).

  • funny to see him so young i use to see him to some debate about god in an older years and where is comedian side is silence

  • i love kenneth williams

  • Jesus, Fry is massive.

  • i think although Stephen is happy to chat, and seems to speak quite confidently, there seems to be some discomfort as his gaze doesn't linger on Kenneth for very long; he cant seem to maintain eye contact with him...

  • @deliciouslywired He's obviously intimidated by an idol.

  • Haha.....Beautiful?? Who?? Fry?? Let's be honest he is a typical ugly english fellow!!!

  • @82tomaso typical ugly English......wtf his ancestry is mostly Jewish Hungarian are you being anti-semetic!

  • Comment removed

  • @82tomaso Your opinion may tread the virgin ground of Stephen Fry's unattractiveness, but he is NOT typical! He is one of the rare men who make me feel proud to be English, which I value deeply along with the rest of England, he is a national treasure.

In a bold and truthful summarization; I fucking love him. :D

  • @82tomaso He is far from being typical. And yes, he is VERY beautiful.

  • two competing egos here, thats why it doesnt flow....

  • Comment removed

  • He's just so...beautiful

  • look how tall stephen is

  • @kahuna3901 hes around 6 foot 4/5 i think/

  • Wow!

  • what a dull TV set

  • Man, 23 years ago!

  • Anyone else in sheer awe?

  • @Easyandy100 Stephen Fry is hilarious.

  • @FoobyZeeky Oddly, I do like them both but on this they were irritating.

  • @Easyandy100 you're not listening then

  • he looks very young, but sounds so old

  • fry looks dead smug at the end of the inro

  • @chexxbanner

Stephen Fry always says that he's horrified by how smug he always comes out looking, despite him never feeling smug inside.

  • stephens downs syndrome level increases day by day

  • Ken's face is a picture at 5:27

  • This couldn't have been 1970 could it? That would make Stephen Fry 69! Sorry if this comment has been made earlier - didn't have time to go back through all the comments.

  • @MrIcarusflysagain ...it's 2011 and he's 53 now. He was born in 1957.

  • @Spiritedshadow Well, that would seem about right - it was just the '25thNovember1970' under the title of the video that threw me.

  • Did Williams mention Fry in his diaries? He actually seems to like him, but again with Wiliams it's hard to tell...

  • he's younger and thinner...but EXACTLY the same. Still completely awesome though : )

  • are the audience asleep?

  • @yousurfer2 No, darling. They're British. :p

  • @Syniqal what's that meant to mean?

  • Wow, they actually cared about St. Georges day back then! Now we celebrate everything but our own things in England. It's a cliche (and true!), but it's political correctness gone mad!

  • Awesome, Kenneth Williams AND Stephen Fry :)

  • Love him though I do, even at 28 Stephen Fry looks middle-aged.

  • An aging legend and an emerging legend... What a wonderful pair!

  • Loved the anecdotes about the university especially. That "structuralist" sounds like he was into Claude Lévi-Strauss. That anecdote about Olivier and Hoffman is often told like that, but Hoffman denied it.

  • Ach, I ♥ S.F.

  • I bought a car from crazy eddie once. Mad bugger.

  • holy crap had no idea this had happened

  • Thumbs up if you Think Stephen Fry is Timeless!

  • @seabeesrock

    Thumb whore!

    ;0)

  • @seabeesrock Yes but Kenneth beat the path....

  • I wish Stephen Fry was my grandmother.

  • @hipocloritodecalcio ...what?

  • @Trisscarr Yeah, I wish he was my grandmother. He'd be one cute grandmother. He's so adorable here.

  • oh my god, Stephen looks enormous next to him

  • lovely thank you for the upload

  • Yes, let's bring it back three times.

  • Wonderful interviewer, wonderful subject. Please bring back intelligence!

  • Wonderful interviewer meets wonderful subject. Please bring back intelligence to the media.

  • 1:10 Mr Fry's look-how-gorgeous-I-am smile

  • @Nobody277 Bloody hell, that's a most perfect description.

  • Gathered to GOD...? Extraordinary. Never heard that one before... I may use it...

  • Nice of Kenneth to so generously give a young Stephen so much time and space - and to look so agog at the Sexual Difference story... But it's weirdly anachronistic to hear such a mature voice from such a young face!

  • What he is wearing would not be out of place on a pheasant shoot. The style is usually known as "County".

  • Classic. I was just 22 when he did this.

  • What a beautiful boy!

  • @kekekekatie oh yes, and already so witty and poised at the age of 26. He's at the top of the list of "Who Would You Want to Invite to Dinner". After all the trials and tribulations of his life, I hope he is happy and at peace with himself.

  • The story of the supervision and the lectures on sexual deference are recreated (with embellishments) in Fry's novel The Liar, which I would recommend highly :)

  • How ridiculous that this clip is dated 1970 - that would make Stephen Fry 12 years old at the time! ;)

  • @KiraBeauty It's not, it's dated 1986. The uploader's name is 25thNovember1970.

  • Fantastic thanks

  • Kenneth Williams is not a great interviewer but I think he would have been marvelous on QI.

  • @webothlovesoup he would have given Stephen a run for his money that's for sure. Ken was brilliant in 'Just a Minute' on the radio

  • wow..great to see 2 comic icons together, i didnt even know they had met . thanx for upload.

  • am quite homophobic, but am a big fan of K williams, he had a real touch of class about him. A true Brit.

  • @TheWomblemaster What an honest yet bizarre comment. There are thousands of true Brits who are gay.

  • How old are you matsui2001 ? you seem very excited about homosexuality

  • Apart from the fact that both struggled with their sexuality for years... !? @matsui2001

  • he's rolling the "r" just like Jeremy Brett...is this a special accent? it sounds so good.

  • I see what Stephen Fry means about always looking smug despite the fact he does not feel smug.

  • why does he keep looking at the ceiling? Or is it the audience?

  • @PizzaInChicago Probably because he's excessively nervous about sitting next to Kenneth Williams!

  • stephen looks so elegant and beautiful

  • @lnfreeman

This is why he was a perfect choice to play Oscar Wilde.

  • @sweetcurmudgeon not to mention they do look rather similar...and I imagine they have similar voices....I would love to see them meet- wouldn't you? You know, in a hypothetical circumstance....

  • OOOOH MATRON

  • i never knew that kenneth williams died before i was born, i honestly feel like i've grown up with him around me, my whole family is such a huge fan of the carry on shows

  • This is from chat show ''Wogan'' but Tel was not available so they got KW.

Other times it was Johnny Ross & Sue Lawley.

This show was my first ever encounter with Wossy..

  • frys dress sense hasnt improved since 86... probably since he starting dressing himself"!

  • 2 old dears ....
