  • Can everyone just enjoy the music for what it's worth? Christians, instead of getting offended by discrediting comments, do what you are called to and pray for those who make them. Cuz you sure as hell ain't gonna lead someone to Christ over online arguments (that'd be a miracle to tell). Just be thankful that Dustin/Thrice has been able to reach non-believers with their music and hopefully get them thinking about the everlasting God. God bless you THRICE. Come back soon and make more music.

  • @beandip2014 Actually Dustin Kensrue isn't religious, in fact he claims that he "Just likes to read" and one of the many books that he enjoys reading happens to be the Bible. You can look at this song anyway you want to, but it does not have to be religious. The song is pretty much about wanting to be a better man, he just uses quotes from the Bible to do it.

  • @finchisgod Dustin is the worship leader at Mars Hill Church in OC. So there is no doubt that he is religious. But I definitely agree that you can look at the song any way you want to, which is why I get frustrated when Christians sometimes take Dustin's lyrics (although biblically based) and try to and use it as a foothold to force-feed Christianity. I do not think that's how Christ would have done it, and I'm pretty sure that's not how Dustin would want it either.

  • anyone know where i can find the recordings of the whole show?

  • This band has so much talent! I'm so bummed about the whole "hiatus" thing.

  • @Triplezero13999 Yes it's frustrating

  • As an atheist I can honestly say, I love these guys and their music :D

  • this is one of my favorite songs

  • Dustin is so sincere in his walk with Christ it's encouraging and convicting! :)

  • whats next.. dustin holding a Triangle.. *ting ting!*

  • for anyone that gets "offended" at mentions of Biblical reference, you are truly a moron...Biblical references are found in every day life,on tv,in movies & we would have no western art if not for Christianity, from Bach/Beethoven(the great classical composers were sponsored by the church which solely pushed the boundaries of music in baroque era),to gospel in america which became blues/jazz/rock(no american rocknroll w/o Christian influence) to Michelangelo & great artists all referencing Bible

  • @cykoaudio777 Congress & Supreme Court still pray everyday before session,Judeo-Christian ethic intrinsic in founding fathers philosophy written into the pillars of our country-all the first hospitals/ schools in this country started by the church, not to mention Christians being the first in Haiti,Africa/S.America/Asia to bring medical aid,schools/civilized culture to remote tribal areas,& Christians being the biggest charitable demographic in the world out giving our own gov't in Haiti/Katrina

  • @cykoaudio777 so anyone that immediately gets "offended" at any reference to Bible, you are truly isolating yourself from the rest of the civilized world, like pagans in Europe in dark ages,it was the pagan tribes holding back civilization, while the church brought civilization & Europe OUT of the dark ages, what with the first universities/ first book printed on press=Bible, hospitals, philosophers & science(Newton man of faith),so if you've been brainwashed by your lib professors,de-program

  • @cykoaudio777 I don't see how the pagans were holding back the civilized world. The Christians didn't invent mathematics, they didn't invent philosophy, they didn't invent schools. You're talking about a natural progression within civilization that is a result of shared and exchanged knowledge. Don't get me wrong, the church did many great things for humanity, but they also destroyed many works of pagan cultures and spread their religion by force. I doubt Jesus would approve of their methods.

  • @cykoaudio777 Please always proof read what you post, if it doesn't feel right or sound right when you reread it then don't post it, also trying to sound more intellectual than you are typically gets you in trouble... Look at myself for example =)

  • If I could have sex with a song, it would be this one.

  • This is a band that will truly stand the test of time because they have traversed all kinds of different sounds and do all of them so well that nothing they do sounds bad. may not be to the taste of some, but none can say that they have done anything that was bad!

  • 1 thrice 2 thrice 3 thrice 4...old thrice new thrice..its all hardcore! Christian this, Christian that, just be good you little rats...k im done

  • they derive inspiration from stories and scriptures of the bible as do many other bands but they continue to say that they are not christian...haha boy am i glad...lol

  • @alyrocksthebraine Because whether they declare "Christian" changes anything?

  • @alyrocksthebraine Actually it's not "they", it's "he".. Dustin writes all the lyrics, but not all the Thrice members are Christian..

  • @alyrocksthebraine except dustin because look at his solo record... "I have tasted and I have seen, Lord, that you are good" "It's safe to say we'll never know everything, still I choose to believe"

  • its taken me so fucking long to finally be able to appreciate new thrice, but im so glad i can now :D <3

  • @KingButtCheekz It was time for them to grow up...... :/

  • Go to Faceb00k and join the group 'Thrice Covers'

  • Lyrical fucking genius

  • This song must be somewhat related to Alden Nowlan's poem "The Word" (that I cannot find on the internet for some mysterious reason...) I think the poet wrote his poem with inspiration from the bible quote above though, just like how this song was written. I'm writing an essay for a poetry class now on all of this. So beautiful.

  • @lovebrittney6 Though I have the gift of tongues/and can move mountains,/my words are nothing/compared with yours/though you only/look up from my arms/and whisper my name./This is not pride/because I know/it is not/my name that you whisper/but a sign/between us/like the word/that was spoken/at the beginning/of the world/and will be spoken again/only when the world ends/This is not that word/but the other/that must be spoken/over and over/while the world lasts/Tears/laughter/a lifetime!

  • @lovebrittney6 /All in one word!/The word you whisper/when you look up/from my arms/and seem to say/my name.

  • he is the most beautiful man in the world. =]

  • but I don't know the first thing about love

  • About Thrice and all the bible references, Thrice said it wasn't religious, but they're all about spirituality.

  • I so want the guitar tabs for this.

  • @Twistofcain13

It' easy. I made a tab. I'll post it this week. Maybe today.

  • These lyrics were directly influenced by 1 Corinthians 13:1-3. DK writes his lyrics based on his influences. I'm agnostic, and I have no problem with him writing biblical lyrics.

  • WHY do the comments on every thrice video (or any music video) always seem to drift into a fucking ridiculously obnoxious argument on the existance or non-existance of a god?

this shit is pissing me off. No one here is going to convince anyone else via a freaking youtube comment, so just shut up & enjoy the music. PLEASE

  • @darknight0dc Don't read them...

  • @bcal623 done & done.

  • I hate when everybody tries to prove a different era of Thrice was better. None is!:

First Impressions: Wel, c'mon, it's their first album, and they still rocked ass!

Identity Crisis: experimentally punk, wide music spectrum.

illusion Of safety: Still punk, but much more mature.

AITA: less punk, more rock, very mature.

Alch. Indexes: The amazingly risky and perfected switch from rock to prog rock.

Beggars: relaxing, yet powerful and mature.

And throghout it all, their lyrics are inredible

  • @EverydayAdventures Missed Vheissu.. :P

  • @opensecond I didn't have enough character space :(

Vheissu: Less angry and angst-y, but still heavy, but one of the biggest key additives of this era was songs that were ALL about emotion; just quiet, acoustic-like, and very relaxing (Atlantic and Red Sky). The only negative thing I can find with this album is the fact that Image of the Invisible got them recognized. I feel really elite being a fan of Thrice at this degree; anyone should: they're not mainstream~!

  • if you love thrice and are moved by songs like this, you should def check out distin kensrue's solo cd. bury me with that

  • I wonder if the old fans know he is singing scripture - and from his heart, without mocking it. I don't imagine MANY Thrice/Dustin fans are the Bible reading type.

  • @dlor99 comments like this are what start youtube religion comment wars.

no one cares if he is talking about scripture or not.

  • whoever disliked this must be deaf

  • Pretty much an immaculate song, so much for Thrice! Maybe check out our cover of it... See what you think? Just check out channel :) x

  • as much as it's one of their most chilled songs. sooo amazing! the years have been truly good to thrice.

  • everything Thrice does kicks some serious ass, good job!

  • his voice gives me chills.

    this is really beautiful.

  • i've just recently started listening to thrice, but ever since i did, their music just speaks to me. every song i hear is so moving and it touches me. if the band ever reads this, know that i love your music and it's, in a way, changed my life. thank you.

  • I dig the hell out of this.

    Thanks for posting.

  • wow Dustin MELT ...... heehee

  • amazinggggggggg

  • cool !

  • lol he does

  • 1Corinthians: The love.

  • awesome

  • i don't know the first thing about love..mhhm i luv this song!!!

  • "If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am only a resounding gong or a clanging cymbal. If I have the gift of prophecy and can fathom all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have a faith that can move mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give all I possess to the poor and surrender my body to the flames, but have not love, I gain nothing." 1 Corinthians 13:1-3

  • Awesome dude. Thank you.

  • @xXminiteoXx AMEN

  • @xXminiteoXx fuck off with this bible shit, religion is fucking ridiculous

  • @DoctorSneakynipples I agree. I think religion is mankind's scar. However, Dustin Kensrue reads the Bible a lot. And while Thrice is not a Christian band (and they will admit that altogether), Dustin's lyrics are heavily influenced by the Bible. And, agnostic as I am, I think they're pretty damned great lyrics.

Dustin is a Christian. I'm an agnostic, and I love his lyrics even though I know many of them are inspired by the Bible. You can't deny that he's a great songwriter.

  • possessions....not poseidons.

  • it wasn't even the right word!

  • cause those are the right words!!!!

  • again, it wasn't the right word. you made no spelling mistake. poseidon is the god of the sea....possession is something you have. cmon.

  • he can grow a beard and become out with it, and he can be the wisest men like Gandalf or Obi Wan (in literature terms)

  • dustin's voice is so perfect! i wish i was even half as talented as he is!

  • musically, the 'new stuff' (post-AITA) is better. the creativity and variety of ideas is just better thought out in general.

their old stuff (IoS!) is pretty amazing for what it does though. and they still do play deadbolt! so that's not too bad. even if T&C was laid to rest, haha.

  • @17Atlantic

Good God, I wish they would stop playing Deadbolt just to shut people up. Those screaming "fans" are just awful. Alchemy Index owns all, as far as albums go.

  • I like it :)

  • i LOVE this song. its perfect

  • this song is awesome, I love the Earth Volume. his voice sounds like Citizen Cope on the album version. fantastic

  • Damn. when they played with brand new i about cried

  • yes i know. you can't miss the old thrice... they still play it. the new stuff is different and just as good. if not better

  • haha, i was joking in that cuss fest, i love new thrice, posted that long ago when i dittnt really know much of there new stuff! I saw em sunday and they kicked ass!

  • Anybody who says they "miss the old Thrice," maybe you should go to a show for a change? They play aaaalllll the good old stuff for true fans and whiners alike. In addition they mix in all their new music, and trust me it sounds WAY better live. I've never seen better musicians in my life.

  • i would quote that

  • I'm with you that the new stuff is better but just for the record, they don't play the old stuff. The play a bit from TAITA and barely any of their metal stuff from before.

  • When people say the old thrice is better they are not talking about what they play at shows...they are talking about what they are writing and putting on their records now...the old Thrice is very very different so you are going to have people who do not enjoy this new style...why care so much about what other people think anyway...you like em...that is all that matters.

  • this.... is the shit. <-- note the period.

  • they're only getting better.

  • Where did the old thrice go? Last I remember it was right where I left it in my music archive.

This is song is beautiful. It is my favorite from this album.

  • eh there still good, and noxxic i like new thrice too so im not whining, but i prefer the old, anyone know if there coming out with new stuff later on, if they do they should combind all there albums.

  • stop whining

  • I think this humble video will be gold down the road. I hope these guys will stay alive long enough for it to happen. At least part of this video will be shown in the documentary about Thrice's coming to prominence.

  • many people who i talk to believe that the song mainly derives from 1st Corinthians, but others debate this evidence. In my opinion, its too coincidental to exclude the fact that Dustin did in fact use scriptures to explain his love, especially due to his sarcasm of not knowing the first thing about "love." He explains that he does what he does with the "wrong intentions," when sarcastically saying that he writes music because its actually his greatest love, (that is besides his family)

  • what are your interpretations of this song?

  • these are bible-based lyrics. It's pretty easy to understand the meaning of the song rly...

  • thats were u cud b wrong, alot of people wud still b unable to interpret the meaning of their newer songs. :S

  • These guys dressed like mountain men up in here! lol that fits perfectly for this song...ha check out teppei's big ol scruff. handled.

  • Dustin's lyrics are simply amazing. By far my favorite musician. Teppei's a great guitarist as well

  • Best band ever...they always seem to amaze me

  • these guys have sick live performances

  • One word to explain this amazing!!! and if you have an opportunity to see thrice play there songs acoustically go do dustins vocals are so powerful they sound better then cd quality

  • ...'Faith, Hope and Love but the greates of these is Love'...keep it up guys... nice bierds by the way

  • amazing
