Even though GT wasn't the same without "James" John Amos, some of the later episodes were decent. The whole saga with "Penny" Janet Jackson, is good and Chip Fields is a good actress it would have been nice to see her in more acting gigs.
Chip Fields in my opinion is a very underrated actress...she's has always played her roles 100% which is the reason both Kim and Alexis became great actresses as well...
Anybody noticed that what Wilona said on the tape recorder was different from what they actually said. She said you came in here and set me up like I'm some kind of gangster, and on the tape she says you come barging in here like I'm some kind of gangster....funny.
u know funny is that....... janet n her brothers were bein abused iin real life so now im wonderin how she bacisally re livin all those horrible things her father did 2 her wjhile actin......... i maen just think about it 4 all we know her bein scare 4 her when penny's mom was goin 2 hit her could hav been real fear
TV shows in the 70's were sooooooooooo awesome. All in the Family, Sanford and Son, Chico and the Man, Good Times, What's Happining?, Laverne and Shirley, Happy Days, Taxi, Welcome Back Kotter, etc, etc, etc. All of these shows (and more) had the best actors and writers in TV history. There just aren't words to describe how awesomly talented these people were. Sadly, I don't think we'll ever see this level of talent again. God, I miss the 70's and 80's!!!
I realized something about Pennys (real mom) Not wilona. She says theres still SOMETHING missing. She still sees her child as a THING. not SOMEONE. I would slap pennys mom. I would. That abuse. WOW.
When I think of Good Times, this is the episode I always remember. Ja'net DuBois was amazing in this episode. Controlled anger with the right amount of outburst when she briefly loses it. And that ending...all of that emotion and tension in the room climaxing to the ending which you knew would come (how could they let Penny go back to her mom?)...btu still amazing!
This was a deep and good episode. Ms. Gordon had the nerve to try to get Penny back by hiring a guy to help set Wilona up. Turns out that she still didn't got help for her anger, and she wound up being without her daughter. Had Thelma and JJ were there they would have whipped her ass.
"I'm gonna enjoy this!" Mrs. Gordon looked like she was the cat who swallowed the canary! But Willona made her eat CROW! MAJOR league crow! The look on her face @ 5:00 when she discovered her scheme had come to naught was priceless, and of course, no matter how pretty a package it is, violence is still violence, when she would abuse Penny again! Thank heavens for Willona! She truly LOVES Penny where Mrs. Gordon was such a phony!
@AlbieGray I'll say it once, and I'll say it again... Penny's mom was so lucky that Willona just pinned her against the wall when she tried to hit Penny again; because, trust me, things would have played out WAY differently if I were in Willona's shoes... If she had so much as TAPPED Penny again in MY presence, Mama Gordon's blood would have been splattered all OVER those apartment walls. Can you say "ICU?"
@BigBlueBeast I wouldn't be suprised if the guy she hired to take part in the scheme told the cops everything and got probation and Wilona got a restraining order against Ms. Gordon, who probably killed her self.
THIS! is what "real" life is like. NOT! some "if you're happy and you know it, clap your hands" delusion. It is ideal if a child can have innocence and not be forced into dealing with these issues. What I despise, though, is: those folks in denial who pretend these things don't happen.
Drama like this is excellent in proving that (behind closed doors) THIS is what children deal with. The sooner we face up to it the sooner we can "break the chain".
@ndrussiangerman1 Oh, absolutely! The more people face up to it, the better the chance that we can put disgusting people like this away for a LONG time... I will be so, so happy when that day comes...
This was one evil, and vindictive woman! Does she think fancy clothes and a new husband will make her respectable and all of a sudden a good mother for Penney? She is a liar, and a despicable woman who may have fooled her husband, but she has fooled no one! She is still evil and still a child abuser. The minute Penney wouldn't follow her request, the first thing she did was to strike out at her, and the minute Penney disobeys her, she would start abusing her again. She has not changed one bit!
@debgirl12000 She most assuredly was. Mrs. Gordon was beyond evil and beyond vindictive. She wouldn't know the MEANING of the word Love. My favorite line of all was "I'm here," said by Mrs. Gordon, and Willona's flippant reply: "So's the garbage!" Willona had the sassiness of anything, yet, she was principled, and would FIGHT like a tiger to protect her adopted child. Long live Willona!
@994alize LOL! Hell yeah! Pops & Grandma from The Wayans Bros together for the first time! Ironically, my favorite Wayans episode is when they did a parody of Good Times, when Pops (playing James) called Florida a no-necked monster with an afro.
Chips Fields is nothing like the character she plays in this episode according to Kim and Alexis Fields, but she played the role that she excellent in. xoxoxoxo to Chip Fields
@Crazymike1975 I had heard that Kim was going to play Penny, but she couldn't cry convincingly enough for the writers/producers. Janet Jackson auditioned and could convincingly cry on demand and got the part. Kim would guest star in some episodes later, but she and her mother never appeared together on the show.
7:00 is when she realized she lost her daughter for good that money doesn't bring true happiness dag she choose moeny over her child and in the end she lost her child
@mustange550 In this case, it's a bit different it's only inappeasable if it was done intentionally. In this case it was by pure accident. Penny could have testified to that.
Despite living the grand life, Ms Gordon still couldn't get her daughter. Shows that money can;t buy everything.
