Here in Norway christmas is called "jul". Its a derivate of "juul", wich was a celebration of the changing of the seasons..when the days again became longer and the temp rising.
So for me, jul(christmas) has nothing to do with religion.

The question of a "big freeze" versus a "big crunch" is still somewhat of an open question scientifically, but that's trillions of years down the road. But most of the evidence is on the "big freeze" side.

Have you read anything else on this subject? There has been huge amounts of research done since Darwin wrote his book that explains the questions that he could no answer at the time.

Here in Norway christmas is called "jul". Its a derivate of "juul", wich was a celebration of the changing of the seasons..when the days again became longer and the temp rising.
So for me, jul(christmas) has nothing to do with religion.

BTW: There's no doubt whatsoever that our sun WILL go red giant in 5 billion years or so. All life will have been eradicated quite some time before that, however.
The question of a "big freeze" versus a "big crunch" is still somewhat of an open question scientifically, but that's trillions of years down the road. But most of the evidence is on the "big freeze" side.
So. YOUR certainty may be all bluff, bluster and Tinkerbell certainty. Mine isn't.

"Immaterial" can be redefined as "imaginary" with no reduction in meaning whatsoever.
"Good" is conditional on cultural and societal standards, born of our evolutionary history as social animals. Those standards change as society evolves. Witness slavery, subjugation of women, and on and on.
I suppose I fear DYING as much as the next person. But I have no fear whatsoever of death, especially as it relates to a post-life state -- because there is no evidence whatsoever that there is one.

As to 3. Yes. Size matters. When the Earth was, in effect, all there was and the stars were merely tiny lights in the night sky, the position of humans in the universe was proportionally large.
The larger the universe gets, the less likely we are to be anything other than an interesting anomaly. And certainly less likely to be the product of a universe-creating entity that gives a crap about each and every one of us and our individual "purpose" on this planet.

I also know that many "personal experiences" cannot be demonstrated to others. Ergo personal belief in non-material entities would be very difficult to prove, unless of course the entities were real outside one's mind and could demonstrate their existence to others directly. There are a few patchy details but nothing concrete in writing from the time. The gospels ARE NOT EVIDENCE. When Saul spread xtianity he never once mentioned that Jesus existed on earth. He spoke of him in a mythical realm. He never mentioned any of the fabricated Jesus story that is now lied to all xtian kids nowadays. I pity anyone raised in faith.

Everyone has a book and a Prophet, but I can tell you what is unique about Christianity.
Christ alone predicted his death, died and returned exactly as He said He would.
If I am going to want to have confidence in what follows this life, it only makes sense to follow someone who has demonstrated his authority in the life to come. Jesus is the only one who did that.
Also, when you were born again, no doubt remains. These are spiritual issues which are neither logical nor empirical.

Have you read anything else on this subject? There has been huge amounts of research done since Darwin wrote his book that explains the questions that he could no answer at the time.
At least he had the humility to admit he did not have the answer.
