What happened is that he accidentally boxed in a stingray. In an extremely rare occurence the Stingray actually attacked with its barbed tale and hit him in the chest.

Just hearing the words "Steve Irwin has died" are absolutely chilling. There was this weird bizarre feeling after he died. I was depressed for a couple of weeks after his death.
I am not one to remember things. But I remember what he has done to my life. He had a way of expressing himself. He was, no, he IS one in a million. Jumping in danger, not knowing if he will live. He was happy and he changed the world. One of the few men to do so. When he died I cried deeply. Tears fill my eyes as I type this. Steve, if anyone deserves to live forever, it is you. I was talking to a crocodile in cairns a while back. This Croc told me he had been short of food so he started eating dumb shit tourists swimming in the estuaries around cairns. He managed to get a skinny german which he said tasted real good like sauerkraut and ham. Days later the Jap chick was next, tasted like a whale a bit like sushi. Then he got real unstuck, ate an Indian on an Australian work visa. His arse was burning for the rest of the week. Poor barstard.

I cried watching this, remembering the day like it was yesterday.
I was at the Royal Adelaide Show when my mum got a message saying "did you hear about Steve? Poor Steve."
My mum then said "Steve? What happened to Steve Irwin?"
A stranger walking past told us that he had been pronounced dead by the ABC tent not long before.
Many other people around us head him and we were all in a state of shock.
I cried that night, I couldn't believe it.

He was a beautiful man that I idoled since I was a young child. You will alway be my friend or mate. I loved watching you feeding the crocodile and watching your family and zoo grow. I love animals of all kinds a gators and crocs are awesome. And he sure is in heaven with the animals. That was a sad day that he was killed. But his legend lifes forever and so does his memories. We miss you and four years later still unforgotten and loved. His children are beautiful. We love you

I was talking to a crocodile in cairns a while back. This Croc told me he had been short of food so he started eating dumb shit tourists swimming in the estuaries around cairns. He managed to get a skinny german which he said tasted real good like sauerkraut and ham. Days later the Jap chick was next, tasted like a whale a bit like sushi. Then he got real unstuck, ate an Indian on an Australian work visa. His arse was burning for the rest of the week. Poor barstard.
