Sometimes the giant dopplegangar mario is not the problem. It's the level and how fast you're running to get away from it. That's how it was with me. It wasn't that hard for me. It only took like a couple, maybe 10, tries. As long as he's a decent distance away, you have enough time to get the 3 star coins in the level.

I've been there i think Special 7-2 is the hardest since the blocks reappear and disappear and being chased by him only to be a lot bigger than before! Without the tannoki leaf it's almost impossible to get the star coins with.
