People always claim that F-22 Raptor is more manouvarabe than any Russian jet ever built. This argument is so very untrue, first F-22 is not designed for visual range combat, second, with its light composite frame it would simply crumble in the air if trying to perform the manouvers that the Russian jets like MiG-29OVT, MiG-35, SU-35 and SU-37 perform. Its no way as good in visual combat with equal pilots. Pasific vision is proof of that! US should have spent on non-stealth jets instead of F-22
@normison69 What do composites have to do with what you said? Composites make the frame lighter and at the same time stronger than aviation aluminum or steel. PAK-FA will have more composites than F-22. Does it mean that it can't be more maneuverable than F-22? No.
@BitnikGr You can not know how much composite and how much metals PAK FA will have when it will enter mass production, but i bet their goal is still keep the manouvarability of SU-35/37. I only claimed that F-22 is not so manouvarable in visual range combat as SU-35 or SU-37 and concluded that US should have put more money on 4++ jets and not only one 5th gen jet.
@normison69 I place my knowledge on claims of manufacturers. It is stated that F-22 has about 40% of its structure made of composites. In first public interview with Sukhoi designers in February 2010 they said that their goal is to have "at least same percentage of composites with F-22". In last article on this subject published in late 2011, it was stated that percentage of composites in PAK-FA is approximately 70%.
@BitnikGr Yet you miss my point...Its not about what % is used where. But about US wasting their money on one very high to maintain plane wich has never seen action, instead of making new non-stealth.
1st - i dont like the upward-firing countermeasuers. Unless the russians use an evasion method other than the typical (high G pull), the plane flies into its own contermeasuers =S
2nd - i really liked the closing words. a lot of people should pay more attention to them
3rd and final - i love these documentaries, specially their objectivity. History channel's dogfights could take a very good example on these.
This is great? Even American pilots admit that some of the aerobatic tricks su-27 can do, would simply destroy western analogs by it's own weight and g-force. Even famous Raptor only has vertical thrust vectoring
@AlexanderSigal That doesn't mean that Raptor couldn't have a 3D vectoring. It is a matter of choice and not abilities. US has TVC technology. Russians also tested only 2D TVC for reduction of IR signature. Next version of Rafale was planned to have 3D TVC... but now they are forced to stop production.
@devastatermir372 The are two names in titles who were reading the text. Alexander Klukvin and Alexander Loginov. However, I don't know if these are the names only for Russian version or if one of them was narrator of English version too. Or maybe they had someone third to read English text.
@BitnikGr a little clarification...f22 had 1D thrus vectoring who moves in vertical, tvc 2D was puted into acction whit Su27M (su37) in mid 90s ....plus I dont see how rafale can use tvc ´couse they nozzles are besides each others but thats is another issue ;)
@BitnikGr +1 whit it...Im also intrigue by Gripen...but the piont its frensh have alway know how to made airplanes and ships and they are very good (I wont talk about tanks XD whit le clerk example XD)
The thing I like about Russian documentaries is that they are not use that cocky attitude that the Americans do, kinda like : "We have stealth ITS THE BEST, ITS UNBEATABLE, WE DOMINATE, WE ARE THE BEST, GOD BLESS AMERICA". Russians are just pointing out their accomplishments and they are not comparing in detail the enemy fighters against their own. Also even today, the ultimate weapon is the H-Bomb. There are H-bombs so large that can decimate continents.
Correction, The SU-47 is NOW used as a technology demonstrator, but if an aircraft of Sukhoi is given a 'Su-' designation then it is a finished product. The Su47 was in development called the 'S-32' and 'S-37' (Not to be confused with the Su32 and Su37 respectively), designed as a early cold war counterpart to the US F22. It and the MiG P1.44 were early 5th Gen designs. You're right about the T-50 though.
omfg this is such a great documentary, I've never seen such a good, big, unbiased and accurated documentary about Soviet/Russian aviation before, and I like the narator's voice, it's very clear to listen to, thx for updoading it, sorry for spamming but because I love it!!!
@BitnikGr the record is bad for soviet 4th gen fighters and on the 3rd i am quiet neutral by the way are you russian or something?? your videos are great russian docus are ver rare
@deathsaurer123 You see, the thing is.... Russia can pretty much care less... They do keep up yes and in some aspects their technology is better. Its just that no one has the balls or the resources to invade Russia but perhaps China. But China and Russia are allies.
@Hatinonthehaters China and Russia are not traditional allies. They had conflicts between them and there is no guarantee that China won't claim something more in future. But they both are nuclear powers. Noone is insane enough to attack a nuclear power today.
@iamnobodyism Yeah, like making small tiny near-border conflicts for which none of countries would use their nuclear arsenal. To bite small pieces of land one after another?
@BitnikGr Yes but i was talking about cyber attack. attack them with logic bombs, computer viruses, worms, trojans etc. get it right you can paralyse their command, control, communications computer, Intellegence, surveillance, reconnaissance and transportation capability including their nuclear deterrence.
I have to remind you for example a 5-day war in August of 2008 was conducted by Russia almost without direct communication with HQ in Moscow, because HQ was moving from one building to another at that week. They hadn't emails, faxes and only couple of phone lines were working.
So, 58th Army worked operated almost autonomously, without any directions or orders from Moscow.
@BitnikGr then enemy hackers can target the 58th Army itself. or plant logic bombs in units likely to get involved in war with you eg 58th army to say that whenever they go to war the bomb will go off virally and wreck their communications. I never said cyberwar was easy, war is never easy they involve methods tactics and strategies just like any other war. I'm just saying the age of nuclear weaponary as the weapon of invincibility has gone. Nukes are no longer invincible. doesnt make it easy.

@mauricioalfredo83 Strictly mathematically you are correct. But usually people call them 2D and 3D tvc.
When Dassault will make their Rafale with tvc, we'll see how they do it. :)
