Marty you are truly a bad mamma jamma! If you like this type of music check out Hadden Sayers from Texas he has a duet with Ruthie Foster called back to the blues that's un-real!
I discovered Martin 10 or 11 years ago. Saw him at a small venue in 2001, maybe 100 people there. Being a fan then felt kind of like being a member of an exclusive club. At my wedding in 2002 the bridal dance began with 'Diggin' Me," which my wife and I consider our song. I live in a cave as far as pop culture goes, so I had no idea until recently how big he's become. He's earned it.
I've seen both live and Martin Sexton is incredibly sharp playing live. Sexton is my favorite modern day singer/songwriter. Mayer on more than one occasion has labeled him as his favorite singer/songwriter as well. Sexton would be hugh if he wasnt adamantly independent. The guy has soul and character to go along with his unique voice and exceptional guitar playing abilities.
I saw Martin in Indy about a year ago, and I have to say in all my years of watching guy and a guitar shows, nobody has ever moved me like Martin Sexton has. There is so much passion and soul behind his voice, he doesn't even seem to fit into this time period. I can't urge people enough to go and check him out. You will NOT be disappointed.
@TrentonJoe1 What the f#ck are you doing here then? You click on something that says Martin Sexton And John Mayer just to run your mouth? Get the f#ck out of here! P.S. Your original message was not in plural, so once again F- OFF !!
i love to play guitar, and i love martins songs so naturally i want to play them but i don't that often because i laugh to myself when i think about even attempting to sing one. he is truly a musicians musician.
They are both phenomenal artists, Martin is the best live performer I have ever seen,he makes you feel the music the way he does. John Mayer is an amazing artist as well I really enjoy the Trio work, I'm waiting for them to team up for a tour
Wow! Loved this! What a treat to see these two perform together. I've seen Martin Sexton four times live and he is truly talented. Can't believe more people don't know about him.
I got to admit...ive seen Martin 5 times in concert and I have to say its almost spirtual....I've gone through a divorce, birth of my daughter, and a 6 month deployment to Iraq with Martin's music by my side and it truly makes me understand how love and heart ache can create perfect music. Martin is the shit and I make sure any one who hasn't heard of him does....
John Mayer, maybe. But if you think any of those others "rip off Marty's style" then you really need to clean the shit out of your ears. They're all super-talented in their own rights, and Marty deserves all the respect and credit in the world, but your claims are just absurd.
The type of people that think those artists are "super-talented" are usually chronic potheads that think Phish are 'amazing', and not just ambient noise to get high to.
Mathews might be the most talented of the bunch, but he sounds too much like a Sting impersonator to take seriously.
@gorojo1- If you think phish sux who is good then? Trey is one of the best guitar players out there right now. He composes master peices! Phish is amazing. They are so different from any other act. Maybe you need to clean the shit out of your ears, it might help.
Phish is an un-original, mediocre, dime-a-dozen, garage band that got lucky cuz 99.9% of their audience was too stoned to think outside the weed festival
Its only about the experience and belonging. A true cult.. They attempt to pass off lack of musical discipline and original style as "improvisation", when in reality they offer nothing innovative or significant other than 'the party.'
All I give them credit for is highly effective fan marketing.

What I love about John is that he understands that what you DON'T play is just as important as what you do play. He knows when to let the passage "breathe" and "bloom".
Marty is perhaps the master of "overkill" ......you should hear some of his extended live versions of Gypsy Woman......I cant figure out for the life of me how he has not mainstreamed yet.......defies logic.........I remember his small local shows in Syracuse....Hes brilliant......
I am really sorry, but is this a joke???? Martin Sexton is a modern day singing and songwriting genius. Jason Mraz is a decent singer that appeals to the masses, the comparison is not even close.
I've only heard a few of Mraz's songs to feel, IMHO, he is not in the same league as Martin Sexton - neither vocally or instrumentally, forgot soulfully, too! (BIGGIE) On the other hand, I'd have to say John Mayer is talented, but as 1 said above, he/s more marketable to the masses. @Bdasef I agree with you, However Mayer's been with Columbia records for more than 10 years now and with that time more faith has been invested in to Mayer's work. Columbia Records now know that whatever Mayer releases will sell in mass. Therefore his next album to be released is a Folk album (sort of a throwback to the 1960's 'free wheelin' by Bob Dylan). If you look at Mayer's last two albums its obvious he's had control over their elements as he wrote recorded and co-produced them!

I was joking man. One of Chris Rock's jokes is "what's BLACK got to do with it!" I'm not offended, I'm Indian. I'm over race offence now. lol. Take care man. btw, thanks for the upload, amazing song.
It's fun to Watch Martin Sexton (who's not near as known as John Mayer, but is 10 times more original and gifted) up there. John wanks a little much, but it's cool. Martin IS your right brain. Love it!
I am 100% a Martin Sexton fan. but to say that he is 10 times more talented than Jon Mayer is just not true, if you were to ask Martin he would tell you that
