of couse everyone expected larsa to not help vayne in the end, but hearing him say "no" like that and the empire theme play made me think like "oh man some epic shit is goin down!"
I actually never thought Vayne would be the antagonist at the end. He seemed persuading in the beginning of the game when he promised peace to Rabanastre.
Vayne is one of my favourite villains. His goals are actually quite admirable, and he's certainly more believable than many of the recent antagonists. It's a refreshing change from wannabe gods, destroyers and those with "WHY WAS I BORN!?" complexes.
vayne is actually quite interesting considering the fact that he is being manipulated by a god as well as is manipulating everyone (especially gabranth). i think at the very least they should have explained more about the ocuria (that one scene in the great crystal didnt cut it). if they had maybe everything else would have fallen into place.
Very poor character for a villain. He is nowhere near as witty as say Balthier, nor is he nowhere near as manipulating as his younger brother could be. We know almost nothing about him, he is very poorly developed. Lastly, he does not command any presence on the screen, partly due to voice acting, and also due to blandness. This shows here, and any other scene, specially the one between him and the father previously. He is suppose to the emperor to "darth vaders"(judges) of this game, but fails.
I have to agree, Vayne played very little role in the game and didn't do much evil. He just happened to rule the guys who did. With his creation of manufactured Nethicite and his plotting with Venat to overthrow the Occuria, I found Cid to act much more like a Final Fantasy villain ought to - intelligent and scheming and power-hungry.
The characters of FF8 are too poor developed. In your party, only Squall and Rinoa have crucial importance and develoment, the others are just fillers, altought I like them.
i just knew vayne has Whitebeard devil fruit ability

I thought Vayne was just terrific. He kills with his mouth and he's really believable as a character who could deceive people.

Also, these final few scenes are truly epic.

this game was ALMOST there, character development was just weak! it makes me sad, yet happy that they're fixing some of hte problems from X.
