Anyways, one day I was watching a bunch of random Stephen Colbert videos... Well, because its youtube, who knows where the fuck you'll end up (Most likely ponies, in the end). Then I come across this one, and I think "What in the actual fuck is a brony?". A quick search and my life hasn't been the same since. Ponies have invaded the deepest confines of my mind, and will probably never leave.

@MarcusAvon2 As much as I love FIM, I would not compare it to Animaniacs or Tiny Toons. It's good, but it does not have the same level of intelligent writing as either of those. It's not nearly as clever. It's well-written, but Tiny Toons and Animaniacs had some REALLY adult humor in there, actually a bit more than studios could get away with today. FIM does not have humor that ONLY adults will understand. It has more mature humor and themes than most kids shows, but not the kind that those had.

The characters are memorable, the animation is very clean and contrasts very well between different settings, the adventures the characters go on are exciting and even the little things, like the creators listening out to the fans (eg: Derpy being in an episode talking is a prime example of that). They also throw in a few pop culture references here and there just for fun, such references children won't get.

@AlienBeliever897 To be honest, the first two episodes might not be a good indicator as to why it's so popular. I don't like the pilot--and I'm a fan.

The show runners realized all these guys were watching season 1, and changed season 2 appropriately. If you want to watch some episodes that reflect that, watch season 2, starting John de Lancie (Q from Star Trek) playing a villain inspired by his character. Season 2 Episode 14 is another good introduction to the show.

In one word, it's surprise. Surprise that a whole bunch of men and women actually put time and effort into a series about pastel colored magical ponies, mostly to entertain themselves, and that it's a /success/. The community that surrounds it has a bit to do with it too. (Oh no, now I'm thinking about Friendship is Witchcraft and I'm laughing oh no.)

The fact that I like it is hilarious too. It's made for a surprisingly good story at parties.

Bronies are one of the most open-minded and open-hearted fan bases out there. In my case, no other show before has made me take into account how many prejudices we people constantly live with. You gotta open your mind, man! =)

The animation, for a mass produced show, is incredible. We expected crap. The voice acting, for the most part, is done by well known veterans, and the writing contains legitimate character and thematic arcs. We expected emotionless deliveries about tea parties.

We expected the worst and, instead, received one of the best cartoons since the last one Lauren Faust worked on.
