Got a black friend who can gallop like this, his hands/feet don't hit at the same time so it's like he's actually galloping. Looks amazing but scary as when he's chasing you.
guys this really helps! and also try to pass ur hand placement with ur feet and then get to dives... ull really get the hang of them and ull get hooked there a really useful vault
Should I be able to bench my weight and have abs before I start parkour? I can do a lot of kongs and stuff but wall pull ups and jumping high and climbing walls is my weak point. Does that even have to do with benching and abs?
@werewolfsorceror While abs may look nice, they are not necessary for parkour. Instead of working on abs, work on your core, it will help you out more and can pave the road towards abs as well. As for upper body strength, being able to bench your own weight is nice, but instead see how many pull ups and dips you can do first. It's all about setting goals for yourself buddy. Happy tracing
Start now. Thats when I started. Im 14 now. I didn't get really dedicated till spring but once I did, I started flying through movements with ease. Im on to extreme conditioning now.
Take your time with the conditioning and working out part of parkour - take it from me, I neglected that and now I'm relearning things from parkour so I can do it all right this time. It'll save you time and make you a much more efficient practitioner when you get to the movements. :)
its not that :/ my right knee hurts when it bends. so yeah. its sorta fucked up and ima give it time to recover. even though im saying this im still parkouring =]
It actually might not be a bad idea to wait, because when you're fifteen you'll probably be much more athletic and have more developed muscles allowing you to train safer and progress faster.
for all ppl with knee pain if u train good you shouldnt get them but if u go just stop goin jumps and stay with easy stuff for a wile if may feel better but give it time after the pain goes
shit i got oscar-schlatter disease which prevents me from doing all of things with my knees =p so parkour is a bit of a challenge but i get throught =)
try taking smaller steps with less impact. you may be trying to go too big, too fast. if it still hurts you, i would stay away from this exercise until you get stronger or figure out what the problem is from.
To all those who have knee pain: I used to have very bad knees... I was around 14-15 then. Every few drops would flare up some more pain, and my knees would start to pop when walking around. If this is what happens to you, STOP doing parkour for awhile and rest your knees! I gave PK a break for a year, conditioned for about 3 weeks to get back into the intensity, and now my knees are fine. I can do what I couldn't do before without knee pain. I'm 16 now, and enjoying parkour :)
thank you man, i had that in one knee and ended up not doing parkour (or more accurately just not doing the drops) for ages, i recon ill be ok now, thanks!
demondrills, have you ever had any knee pain? if you have how long didi it last for? if suffering from it now - _- but when my knees get better my aim is to condition them and make them stronger? any tips..... plz repley thanks..
fortunately i have never had much knee pain. but i have heard of some very bad cases that were due to people not resting enough or not allowing themselves to heal. make sure you take care of them if they are hurt!
@PKmeida I was having knee pain, i figured out the cause... never let your heels touch the ground. This is the same for normal running. Never let you're heels touch the ground, so when you run just let the balls of your feet hit, then take off again. Once you start running properly, try jumping and landing without touching your heels, when you land, land in a squat position. NO HEELS!
Ha, for me, getting rid of knee pain isn't an option! I was diagnosed with Post Streptococcal Juvenile Arthritis about 2 or 3 years ago. Apparently it's going to fade by this Xmas, but till then I have pain constantly. I just learned to deal with it. Before I would stop, but now I just say, "Fuck it, I already have arthritis, might as well make it worse!" And so the PK training continues!
haha u kidding me! hopping around like a monkey?? ppl r guna wonder "why the fuck is that fool doing?!"...tho it could help ur muscles like abs and sholders as well as ur back i guss...just looks retarted lol
yes this can be a great exercise to develop the monkey vault. start out by trying to place your feet at the same spot as your hands. as you get better, you will be able to land your feet in front of where your hands were.

if you are having knee pain, reduce any impact you are taking. make sure you are using good form on everything and build up your leg strength.

@PKmeida take ice baths and showers; or alternate between your usual heat[in the shower] and as cold as possible, for as long as possible
stretching is also a neccesity
