@MrTops2100 Do you really not know Steeleye Span???Oh, you poor dear. They, along with Fairport Convention, pretty much created the English folk-rock revolution in the 1970's. They turned the folk music genre on its head, causing some purists to turn grey overnight, and were generally brilliant. Some Steeleye/Fairport alumni: Martin Carthy, Sandy Denny, Richard Thompson, Dave Swarbrick and, of course, Ashley Hutchings, founder of both bands.
I have bought this record when I went back to Hungary after a year of working in the Developmental Neurobiology UNit of the MRC. Now, my elder daughter Kate sent it to Andris, the eldest of my 8 grandchildren. I got it through my eldest son, Peter (now 43) by the net. I have shed lots of tears listening to them after 36 years. I do not have a vinyl player, so the net gave me back this pleasure. Many thanks.
My band is doing a metal version of this song.... It's pretty much going to be rad.

@MrTops2100 Actually, the tune is comparatively new, having been written by Nic Jones and Dave Moran.

This is still the best song about madness I have ever heard....and it is several centuries old.

Their music is captivating. Bought this album (Please To See The King) back in the early 70s.

2:30 - 3:10 makes EPIC sword fight music, we used it in our play.

The harmonies--the chorus of "Ahhh" in the otherwise instrumental section--are absolutely blood-chilling (in the best possible way, of course).
Love the Span--many thanks for giving us this treat!

"The spirits white as lightning
Would on me travels guide me
The moon would shake
And the stars would quake
Whenever they espied me"
Deep stuff which strikes a deep chord
Simon Cowell should listen to this.
It won't change how crap modern music is but he might just feel a twinge of shame.
