  • The man is talking to his bass so cool . He's ONE WITH HIS AXE

  • Fascinating stuff. He expresses everything with such grace and ease, both verbally and on that glorious instrument.

  • Hard not to smile when you see and hear ray brown play.

  • Ahhh! I love Ray Brown! One of the Best ever, and such a gentleman! Mr Brown, save a jam for me in Heaven when I get there. :-]

  • Inspiring stuff, thanks for posting! :-)

  • un puto genio.

  • How something like this only gets 82,000 hits in three years, and a video of a cat farting gets a million hits in a week is beyond me. I learned so much from this clinic.

  • i love how in the begining the piano player copies Ray's walking line. now thats musicianship!

  • his tone is soooooo good

  • He loves that bass. What a great.

  • YEAAA! :)

  • When he talks about Wellman Braud and then says he perfected the slap and shows Tea for Two what technique Is he using In the right hand?

  • he is a good bass player. its cool how he is playing lead on the bass and the piano is playing the bass line

  • what is this from??

  • its a blues, in the beginning they keep repating the first 4 bars

  • @shooterfinn i think considering that is from mezzo must be from „jazz icons series that they transmit every 3rd thursday of the month

  • Great bassist!!! Question for all members: Was Ray Brown the bass player for the Merv Griffin Show?

  • He was one of them. probably the main one in fact. Louie Bellson was also on that show as well. The bandleader was Mort Lindsey. They had a great band back then! Top notch players for sure.

  • His intonation is better than most.

  • Ray Brown Is the Greatest

  • wow.i play bass and that is awesome.what an inspiration.

  • only:BEST UNIQUE RAY BROWN

  • your right sur !!!!!!!!!!

  • what is the amp Ray plays on this session????

  • I'm quite sure he isn't using one. That was the beauty of Ray. He got ALL that sound from his fingers. Yeah, he used an amp, but he surely didn't rely on it. He really never needed it.

  • I actually see an amp ... 0:50

  • it's not his amp, it's one of the student

  • He did co-design the Polytone Mini Brute.

  • Wow. Didn't know that. Thanks. When did those hit the market? Late 70's? Early 80's?

  • They might even go back as far as the early 70s, there seems to be very little information on the internet.

  • I think Ray primarily used just the mic and his bass. That's what I've been told, anyway.

  • !!! There's a new version of Ray Brown's masterclass posted about two months ago, with brighter colours and a better sound... See: "Ray Brown Bass lesson 1/6".

Whereas between "Ray Brown 004" and 005 there's a part missing, in "Ray Brown lesson 3/6" from 2:45 one can find these 5 (!) missing minutes with Ray Brown on sound and independacy of the bass player and his famous triplets-drops... Great stuff!

  • Not anymore, it got removed, but atleast we still have this one

  • Exelent videos, thanks for share them.

  • wow what is that song he played 2:57

  • Can anyone tell me the name of the pick-up that sir Brown used to amplify his bass in these videos?

    Many thanks!

  • It's a Polytone.

  • ray brown non e' il bassista jazz n°1 ray brown e' il bassista jazz.

  • I'm diggin the singin the part just before he plays it, thats sick

  • I snuck into a Ray Brown Workshop at Berklee college of Music back in 1993 even though I was not a Berklee student. It is still one of the best lesson's I've ever had. RIP Ray! You are the most influential bassist in history!

  • a master, i wish i had a bass teacher like this guy. so articulate, and one with the instrument. i got many more years to go.

  • @sawboss711 me too!

  • @sawboss711 I'm there with you. It's a bummer he's passed away now, cause I would definitely be applying at the university where he taught.

  • what a great video! I've already forwarded this to my students. great playing and great teaching as well! thanks.

  • Great Up!

  • My Favororite jazz bass player doing a masterclass, is something priceless. Many many thanks from Chile, bass443.
