Un truc horrible, il ne faut pas oublier que "La guerre de Janequin" date de la renaissance ! Les voix sont non vibrés a cette époque !!! Sa gâche tout l'aspect de la Renaissance..
i get chills in multiple parts of this song! i've heard more "recent" lineups do this song, but i still have a special place in my heart in this lineup's perfomance.
Hermosa obra de Clement Janequin, su caracter pictorico siempre presente hace de esta interpretacion un cuento hermoso (a pesar que hable de la guerra)
King Singers is The Best!!! We "almost" got the same interpretation of this song. But i Must say the pronounciation is very difficult and because it a long piece extreme concentration is needed to sustain the energy...One of the Hardest song I have ever sung.
Yeah. These are all well-trained musicians with schooling and years of performance behind them. I think it's safe to trust their interpretation of this, and I'm more apt to respect their interpretation than that of some random stranger.
The greatest choral recording ever made. I had the pleasure of seeing them do this in person in 1984 and the whole front row was nearly spit on. I've heard this thousands of times since then, and I am more amazed every time.
.... I am finding it difficult too to read 'through' the old fashioned French.... But I worked it out, with the help of my French native friends in the choir! It's quite 'bloody' and very FRENCH.... Chantons la Marseillaise!!! LOL
We are trying to tackle this battle song right now and I am in awe for the KS... I am one of their greatest fans anyway! Wonderful rendition and even without listening you get the picture by watching them mouth and by their facial gestures!!! Outstanding....
Is ANYBODY out there capable of telling me the names of the singers at that time? PLEAAASSSSE.... Is the very expressive counter tenor maybe Nigel Perrin?!
Where did you find the sheet music? I thought I ordered it, but instead received "La Guerre de Renty" by Janequin and LeJeune, which is a completely different piece. Any help is appreciated! Merci!
well thats some freakishly cool $hite, put that in the fav's, one minute your searching for a 40yr old reunion with a lion and some humans the next......
These guys are incredible!!!! They've been knocking me out since about 1977..... such energy, such skill, such poise and musicality - they are simply the Cat's Meow.
These "mistakes" are because the song was written in Old French, at which time spelling was different, there were no accents and grammar was non-standardized.
il y a 500 ans, il n'y avait pas d'orthographe... les mots étaient écrits un peu n'importe comment.... et les éditeurs de partitions modernes ont choisi de garder la graphie ancienne....
KS first recorded this song on the 1973 FRENCH COLLECTION-the Poulenc section I'd reccomend. They thought more suitable to perform the version with a fifth part added by P. Verdelot to the 4 part original - actually sounds better. Moreover, the KS always used a customized version swapping the 5 parts among the six singers or singing bits with 2 singers, not the only case by KS. Fab performance and music; the onomatopoeic part is sheer fun!
Hmmm... at last i found a video with people singing it in F... all the other videos are in A... try to watch my video singing this song with a quartet... it's also in F!

The first time I heard this was 20 years ago in college. We were tripping on acid and this pianist I know put it on, and it blew my f**king mind!

No, good luck finding a video of the King's Singers early enough to have Nigel Perrin.
From high to low they are: Jeremy Jackman, Alastair Hume, Bill Ives, Anthony Holt, Simon Carrington, and Colin Mason
