In America they have the mothball fleet, in Australia we sink ships that could be recalled after a refit in time of war. Are we really smart doing this? Its something that I think is dumb beyond belief. We should be mothballing these ships and same with the F1-11s. We don't have the capacity to make these vessels quickly, we rely on others to build for us. Wake up Australia.
@DingoMikle the Canberra was well beyond its operational lifespan, its the same with old cars it becomes a write-off when it costs more to maintain than its worth just transfer that principle to Naval ships and you get the HMAS Canberra
Ohh Poor ship..we waited 3hrs, and were up on hte hill by tuckfield.. Was gr8 when it finally happened but also sad. Pity the helicopters missed it LOL!
Very sad. As part of the commissioning crew I stood by her while she was being completed at Todd Shipyards, Seattle, Washington in 1980/81. I hope those who dive on her respect the 26 years service she provided to the R.A.N. Internation callsign Victor Kilo Charlie November. BT AR

@sirpissflaps I dived it in April 2011. I wasn't cold and the dive was fascinating. Obviously not a dive for soft tropical divers.
