SERENA has already sent one Begian into retirement via a one-way Aussie Open finals ticket in 2010...one more to go in 2012 - the ugly one who looks like a koala bear (klijsetrs whatever)
I remember the first time watching Vaidisova play. I was watching alongside my brother and told him I expected her to be a future world no 1 and slam winner. Didn't see Stepanek popping up in my crystal ball though :')
@jbl01456 like henin in 08' she didn't feel the drive to continue so she called it off so she can start a family....there were rumors that she were going to have a comeback at the beginning of this year because they saw her in a tennis academy in Prague, but i guess it was just some fun hitting for her...i missed her on the tour though :/
i wouldnt say that dementieva outplayed serena, she hung with serena until serena kicked it into high gear and won. jankovic counterpunches but in 2008 aussie she counterpunched so well that she found time to hit winners against the most powerful player on tour-serena. that is not easy to do but jankovic did it in 2 sets. if you actually watched the match jelena moved serena wherever she wanted, hit winners and serena had a lot of forced errors. in my opinion she was outplayed that day.
Wished she hadn't retire. If not, she'd could've formed a Czech Fed Cup team with players like Lucie Safarova & Petra Kvitova and then be one of the dominant teams in the cup.
@abercro800 I agree but did you see the match against Jankovic, QF? She was so out of it like she didn't care and she looked worried. I remember that match where she kept looking out in the audience and trying to look for her Dad. Yes Jankovic played amazing tennis Serena looked like something was bothering her emotionally In that match. Even the commentators said Serena looked off, not physically but something was definitely wrong.
@wiseguyknowsit the commentators have made their careers off of making excuses for Serena when she's losing, inventing phantom injuries. Serena just got outplayed. Poor baby if you can't handle your emotions get off the court
@StewNWT lol It doesn't happen often, Serena has this habit of ahhh how do u say?... Oh yeah WINNING GRAND SLAMS so when she does lose it is a bit of a surprise. Its only natural to look for answers why.
@ceedsmith, i like how you made it sound like serena is just simply unbeatable.... ummm regardless how amazing of a player she is, she is still a human being therefore she can still lose. she was outplayed by jankovic, simple as that!
@abercro800 Jankovic does not have the GAME to actually outplay Serena. She may beat Serena on a couple of occasions, but never has she beaten Serena because she outplayed her. Now, Stosur has outplayed Serena, Kuznetsova has outplayed Serena, and Sharapova has outplayed Serena. As a Serena fan even I can admit when Serena is outplayed, but Serena beat herself when losing against Jankovic. Simple as that.
@MrWilks6 Of course Venus, and yeah Henin. I thought those were obvious...but...Clijsters...hmm...I don't think she has outplayed Serena and won. Even at the Open, Serena beat herself. I personally think Clijsters is overrated.
@MrProdigy555 Especially as the US Open win over Serena was only Kim's 2nd win. Serena leads their head 2 head 7-2. So Kim really has gotten lucky recently, wining back to back slams while Serena has been out injured. Looks like she'll have a clear for most of this year because Serena may be out a while longer now.
as a serena fan, i can also admit when serena is outplayed and jankovic has outplayed serena. at the 2008 aussie she did. jankovic has a counterpunchers game so if she get serena to hit enough balls back and serena makes the error time and time again then jelena is playing her game to the best of her ability . if she wins doing that then she is outplaying her opponent. she also hit a lot of winners in that match too
@holocaustik Having your opponent beat themselves is not outplaying them. Yeah, you may be playing your game to the best of its ability, but that speaks nothing of the opponent's game. You know? We define 'outplaying' in two different contexts. Also, winning/losing the match also has nothing to do with being outplayed or not, because Serena has been outplayed many times, though she has come through with the win. Take Wimbledon 2009 for example. Dementieva DEFINITELY outplayed her but serena won
@MrProdigy555 right...she outplayed her so well until she couldn't play anymore...oops, she didn' t play anymore bc she lost...lol. When someone outplays someone, they usually wins
@twarren20 If you really believe that then you don't know what you're talking about. HOW MANY TIMES HAVE YOU HEARD THAT "THE PLAYER PLAYED TERRIBLE, BUT WAS ABLE TO GET THE WIN?" Many times! Your sentence/paragraph doesn't even make sense. lol. Child, bye.
she really was . serena is known for running like a track star and hitting winners. jankovic ran her all over the place and hit a lot of winners against serena that day. yeah jankovic is a counterpuncher but she had flare that day
It's just a shame what happened to Vaidisova... so much talent... :( I really hope she reconsiders a comeback and soon.

Maybe Vaidisova was simply taken out of the tennis circuit for reasons the general public is unaware of...

I don't understand what happened with Serena in quarters that year. Or the 3rd round at the French. Just inexplicable losses.
And I used to like Vaidisova too. So sad she couldn't find her form.
